Courtesy of Vox:
Several prominent progressive organizations are demanding that the Democratic Party’s senators do whatever they can to block Donald Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court. On Tuesday night, Trump picked Neil Gorsuch, 49, to fill the seat.
“As long as the president is in flagrant disregard for the basic underpinnings of our republic, it is no time to consider a Supreme Court nominee,” said Ben Wikler, the Washington director of MoveOn.org, in an interview. “The next election is a while away, but what Senate Democrats do here and over the next few months will be seared into the memory of every Democratic voter.”
The core of the progressive groups’ argument is that Senate Democrats have dramatically underestimated the scale and depth of their voters’ anger toward Trump’s administration. (Only one Senate Democrat, Oregon’s Jeff Merkley, has announced that he’ll filibuster Trump’s nominee.)
“We want to see our leaders in Congress standing up as strongly to the Trump administration as we are in the streets and in airports across the country,” said Charles Chamberlain, executive director of Democracy for America. “Anything less than a complete and utter rejection of Trump’s Cabinet appointees and of their Supreme Court appointees is absolutely unacceptable.”
I would typically be against tactics like this because I think being oppositional for the sake of opposition hurts the country.
However Donald Trump is a special case and he NEEDS to be stopped, or at the very least slowed down, every step of the way.
I would argue that these same tactics should have been used to stop the appointment of Rex Tillerson and Ben Carson, but they most certainly need to be used to stop Secretary of Education nominee Betsy Devos (Who they are now getting help with by the way.), Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch (Who is much worse than we have been led to believe.), DHHS nominee Tom Price, Secretary of Energy nominee Rick Perry, and well essentially the whole kit and kaboodle.
And I would also support threatening those that don't recognize the outrage of the American people over having Putin's puppet running our country with primary challenges in the upcoming elections.
We are at war people, and it is high time that the progressives demonstrated that they can kick butt with the best of them.
What is kicking "bet"? You make Palin look like a MENSA member with your own writing.
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't have figured that one out, huh?

ReplyDeleteWRONG! TRUTHFULLY INFORM the PUBLIC with FACTS.
You know that's a blog, right?
DeleteYou know *this* is a blog, right?
Not gonna happen, in typical Democratic fashion they will all roll over and show their bellies. Face it, we're stuck with this regime for 4-8 years, just like Bush we need to get used to it, ignore it and live our lives not worrying about it.
ReplyDeleteNo, not 4-8 years. We have to work our asses off for the mid-terms. We have a mountain of a job to do keeping up with all the EOs and crap that's happening at lightning speed right now, but we have to develope a strategy and new candidates at the same time.
DeleteWe have to have the majority in the house and senate to be able to somewhat control the despot in our White House.
We can do it!
In the upcoming midterms in 2018 what we CAN do is maintain the seats we have, it's very unlikely that we will win any new ones until 2020, but that's still a very good reason for people to actually show up to vote in 2018.
DeleteRemains to be seen if it will happen. I just hope that people aren't too busy filling out "online petitions" to actually go to their voting booth.
@ 2;45 pm Dear Debbie Downer, Hey if you want to sit back and watch your country become a dictatorship, that is you right, but don’t come back later and complain.
DeleteThe Democrats are doing what they can, at least they are fighting, and they might not win all the battles. All we need are a few republicans in the senate to flip on traitor trump and the way he is acting that is a possibility.
Mid term elections are coming up in 2018 and for once Democrats need to get off their butts and vote.
I just took a look at who's for reelection in the Senate, and it looks to me like we have to hold our seats and try to get Heller's in Nevada. And then try to get more Sens. in the next election. Bummer. But while we are so outnumbered in the House, I think that's where we can pick up some seats plural. It'll be a couple elections before we get either part of Congress back, I think.
DeleteI just want Trump out of there ASAP. There's got to be enough on him and that will be found out. If it turns out that Trump's DOJ and congress won't investigate, then I want everyone out there who has knowledge and connections will go straight to the media with all their findings. Anything and everything--just keep getting stuff put out there.
4:15 "I want I want I want"

Trump is President and he isn't going anywhere! It doesn't matter what YOU want!
And your existence is meaningless, asshole 5:08. Go bore yourself to death.

DeleteAnd you need to learn to count.
Never said it did matter what 'I' want 5:42. Frankly, that is more of a childish liberal 'me me me' kind of thing. I can take care of myself and don't need to whine and depend on the government. How does it feel to be called out as the children you are?

In the course of the most disastrous and alarming first days of any presidency in our nation's history, Donald Trump's administration has ...
ReplyDelete- blocked health care to millions of women around the world,
- threatened to close down all federal domestic violence programs,
- appointed an apparent white nationalist to the White House staff and the National Security Council,
- on Holocaust Remembrance Day, failed to mention the Nazi regime's Jewish victims,
- also on Holocaust Remembrance Day, issued a blanket travel ban against citizens of majority Muslim countries, causing panic around the world and affecting around 90,000 refugees, dual passport holders, and U.S. permanent residents, then firing the acting Attorney General when she refused to defend the ban,
- carelessly turned the goodwill of the Mexican and Chinese governments into animosity,
- been in violation of the Constitution's emoluments clause, which forbids elected officials from accepting any kind of payment or consideration from foreign governments, from his first day in office,
- used legislative branch staff do work for the executive branch without telling Congress,
- rolled back an interest rate cut for homeowners,
- gone back on his promise to negotiate lower prescription drug prices,
- forbidden civil servants from communicating with the media or the public regarding their work and research,
- threatened the media and called for journalists who report on the administration's dishonesty to be fired,
- and directed the Department of Homeland Security to begin construction of a wasteful, destructive wall along the U.S. border with Mexico.
That's only the beginning, and it's not even a complete list of this administration's offenses against decency.
Donald Trump's administration is a disgrace, even without considering his extensive known and suspected ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and other white nationalists at home and abroad. The administration is a disgrace even without considering Trump's praise of brutal authoritarian leaders in Turkey, India, and the Phillippines, on the basis of their murderous crackdowns on ethnic and religious minorities, the press, peaceful demonstrators, and the poor.
Resign, Mr. Trump. Go home. And take your friends with you.

"They're looking at deporting immigrants and possibly green card holders that are using welfare"

Biggest welfare queens we got are corporations(gov't subsidies are in the high billions). They are people too, so said the SC & Mitt Romney.
DeleteThey gonna deport any of them while they're at it, 9:45?
Right on. We are the only alleged communist pinko (very blue) town in this southern MN county. Our county DFL committee last night said no for any appointees and later the Move Forward movement echoed the same. No.
ReplyDeleteWE are working from the ground up.
And believe me, we have plenty of pissed off people who can work.
Exactly. The DNC leadership needs to know the BASE is coming for them.
DeleteEvery Dem in office is getting 5x-10x the calls they used to get and they are all screaming about obstructing Trump and saying NO.
They need to be more afraid of US than they are of the Republicans and Trump.
So the Republicans is targeting those coming up for re-election in 2018 to vote yes on all of the nominees or else. We need to send a message that they need to be much more afraid of US if they vote YES!
I wish all of California's Federal representatives had the balls of Kamala Harris. She has hit the ground running. She may be our own Elizabeth Warren.
Kamala Harris showed balls(her middle finger, maybe) to the California residents when she refused to prosecute Steve Mnuchin for operating a foreclosure machine in that state. Over the objections of her own staff who conducted the investigation into Mnuchin's destructive predatory practices, I might add.
DeleteHer staff told her there was plenty of evidence of wrong-doing and Harris halted the investigation. She refuses to answer questions about that to this day. She was supposed to have protected the citizens of CA as AG and she stood down and let hundreds of thousands of families lose their homes.
Steve Mnuchin is just one of the bankers responsible for the Crash. None of them received any jail time. None were even threatened with a lawsuit.
If Harris had done her job then, perhaps Mnuchin wouldn't be where he is today, and it would've maybe gotten some more bankers responsible prosecuted.
I love reading your comments, Mlaiuppa and often look for your avatar. Just wanted you to know something important about Harris that stands out as disturbing.
Iran on notice. I think they knew that already.
ReplyDeleteIf you attack iran, please target the players and not innocent people. Every terrorist does this, why don't you not go for after innocent humans.
BREAKING: Murkowski Announces She Will Vote Against DeVos Nomination
ReplyDeletehttp://midnightsunak.com/2017/02/01/breaking-murkowski-announces-will-vote-devos-nomination/
See contacting your representatives does work:
Delete=========================
“Noting that she had “heard from thousands of Alaskans who have shared their concerns about Mrs. DeVos as Secretary of Education, by phone, in person, by email and through petition” and had carefully considered everything she learned from her private meetings with Mrs. DeVos, listening to her answers at her confirmation hearing, and reading her written responses, Murkowski ended her speech by saying:
“I conclude my remarks to make clear that my colleagues know firmly that I do not intend to vote, on final passage, to support Mrs. DeVos to be Secretary of Education.”
Do not bet on this she has rolled over on such things before. She is a typical republican do not let her talk sway you into believing anything she says.
DeleteTo all of you with children in school, good luck, your going to need it.
Delete=====================
She's still projected to squeak through. As of late Wednesday night, 50 senators have said they'll support DeVos, and 50 have said they'll oppose her. If that vote count holds until next week, Vice President Mike Pence will get to cast the tie-breaking vote in her favor. [Politico / Burgess Everett and Kimberly Hefling]
I do hold out hope b/c the GOP saying no live where public schools are not going away no matter what. It's too bad that the rest of the GOP can't admit that DeVos is a crackpot know-nothing and do the right thing by children. Seriously--how do they live with themselves!
DeleteTrump Threatening Mexico With Military Invasion If They Don’t Deal With ‘Bad Hombres’
ReplyDelete"You aren't doing enough to stop them," Trump said. "I think your military is scared. Our military isn't, so I just might send them down to take care of it."
House Republicans passed a resolution on Wednesday that overturned an Interior Department rule that prohibited coal companies from polluting the water sources near mines.
The House voted 228-194 to overturn an Interior Department rule that protected the streams from coal company pollution. 224 Republicans voted for the bill. Nine Republicans voted against it. 185 Democrats voted against the bill, and 4 Democrats voted for it.
Republicans argued that the coal mines couldn’t function if they were not allowed to pollute the water supply. The House vote against protecting the water supply from pollution is an example of the kinds of “needless regulations” that Paul Ryan and Donald Trump are looking to remove from government.
What is a little coal mine pollution and grit in the drinking water for the sake of corporate profits?

Trump threatens Mexico over 'bad hombres'
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump threatened in a phone call with his Mexican counterpart to send U.S. troops to stop "bad hombres down there" unless the Mexican military does more to control them itself, according to an excerpt of a transcript of the conversation obtained by The Associated Press.
The excerpt of the call did not make clear who exactly Trump considered "bad hombres," — drug cartels, immigrants, or both — or the tone and context of the remark, made in a Friday morning phone call between the leaders. It also did not contain Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto's response.
Still, the excerpt offers a rare and striking look at how the new president is conducting diplomacy behind closed doors. Trump's remarks suggest he is using the same tough and blunt talk with world leaders that he used to rally crowds on the campaign trail.....
"You have a bunch of bad hombres down there," Trump told Pena Nieto, according to the excerpt seen by the AP. "You aren't doing enough to stop them. I think your military is scared. Our military isn't, so I just might send them down to take care of it."
.... Trump tasked his son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner - a real estate executive with no foreign policy experience - with managing the ongoing dispute, according to an administration official with knowledge of the call.....

Trump Breaks Promise To Reduce Drug Prices
Yet another broken promise from Trump, this time concerning drug prices. After meeting with Big Pharma yesterday, Trump announced that he would not pursue a plan to negotiate better prices with them, but instead would just give them some tax cuts and deregulate their products................
Suddenly it is less important to Republicans that drugs be regulated. How odd........

Wonder if a juicy stock portfolio changed hands?
DeleteDo not forget that Cory Booker and some other prominent Democrats voted against allowing the import of cheaper prescription drugs from Canada.
DeleteThese Democrats let me down.
I had great respect for Mr. Booker until this. He is a shill for big pharma. His NO vote had nothing to do with concerns over 'drug safety'. Show me the dead Canadians Mr. Booker! The meds are made by the same pharma companies. There isn't one safety protocol for Canada and another much safer one for USA.
One of my meds would have cost me less than .50 cents a pill from Canada. Thanks to Mr Booker, I have to pay $40 Per Pill.
No generic, and no way to survive w/o this med. May as well kick off, it's cheaper.
Democratic leaders like this are literally killing and further impoverishing their constituents, many of whom are older and ill with chronic, life-threatening diseases.
Dictator Donnie has been busy, threatening war with Mexico and retaliation at Iran.
ReplyDeleteIs this part of his “jobs plan”, increase in military recruits to fight his wars?
Yes. He will lift the basic training and qualifications to serve him from college educated to pro nose picker elite out of private prison charter school special ed.
DeleteHe was so out of breath when he did the SCOTUS thing last night. I'm wishing every day for that heart attack. Maybe with so much adrenalin running through him after his two-week power trip, he'll keel on top of Melania at Mar a Lago this weekend.
ReplyDeleteIs Melanie going to be at Mar-a-Lago this weekend or in New York?
DeleteSomeone did a great line on Trump. Can't remember if it was Colbert, Meyers or Maher. But essentially it was about Trump saying he had such a big heart. The biggest heart ever. And implication was that he meant an ENLARGED heart.
I remember thinking at the time, ohpleaseohpleaseohplease let it be so.
(If only he'll go to sleep one night at Mar-a-Lago and just not wake up. We'd have Pence but at least not Trump. Pence might even get rid of Bannon and Conjob and replace some of the Cabinet members. Would be wonderful if it was before Gorsucks is confirmed. Will be easier to obstruct a Pence SCOTUS nominee.)
No kidding, about that wakeup. Best thing in the world. Nazi no more.

Yeah, don't know if anyone is doing anything. Hif fat arse is still trying to be a leader. He is just a lump of lard.
DeletePussy grabbing did not start with trump. It is of the uncivilized part of society of takers. Some people are just savage and have zero moral manners or respect. Heathens. We use to jail them now we elect them.
DeleteRepublicans are already targeting Dems in states Trump won and threatening them if they oppose Gorsucks.
ReplyDeleteWhat the DNC needs to do is contact every Democrat, whether they are up for re-election or not and tell them that they better oppose all of the nominations and hold the line with the Democrats or they not only will get NO support from the party the next time they are up for re-election but the party will choose a challenger and throw the entire weight of the party behind them so that they win in the primaries and then win. The election.
We need Democrats that will hold together. We don't need this me first sucks to be you attitude.
They absolutely should be using the words "Merrick Garland". They claim that this strategy will alienate voters. Exactly the OPPOSITE. They've alienated voters with their spineless appeasement. We had 8 fucking years of that under Obama. It lost the election in 2016 and will lose the elections in 2018.
The DNC need to listen to their base. We WANT them to grow a pair and obstruct everything in sight. Did they not get the message when Warren passed Ben Carson?
I don't want to hear one peep about choose your battles. This is WAR and every battle counts. EVERY nominee needs to be opposed. They are ALL dangerous. Gorsucks most of all since he'll be on the Supreme Court for life and he's only 45.
To the arguments and justifications I hear from Trump and McConnel's lips I reply "Merrick Garland." Shove it down their throats until they CHOKE ON IT.
You are laboring under a misapprehension, Mlaiuppa.
DeleteThe Dems and GOP are bought and paid for by the same donors.
Ever wonder why some Democratic leader either didn't bother to 'bring some bad' to an easy political fight, or simply rolled over and played dead? I have been wondering this since I was a teenager. Flip side of the same coin, the donors buy strong Repubs to win, and they buy weak Dems to lose. This system works out brilliantly for the donor class, and has impoverished more than half of the USA population. Imagine, the richest country the globe has ever seen, and more than half its population live in poverty.
The sooner the better:

Leaked Draft of Drumpf’s Religious Freedom Order Reveals Sweeping Plans to Legalize Discrimination
ReplyDeleteIf signed, the order would create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity.
The four-page draft order, a copy of which is currently circulating among federal staff and advocacy organizations, construes religious organizations so broadly that it covers “any organization, including closely held for-profit corporations,” and protects “religious freedom” in every walk of life: “when providing social services, education, or healthcare; earning a living, seeking a job, or employing others; receiving government grants or contracts; or otherwise participating in the marketplace, the public square, or interfacing with Federal, State or local governments.”
The draft order seeks to create wholesale exemptions for people and organizations who claim religious or moral objections to same-sex marriage, premarital sex, abortion, and trans identity, and it seeks to curtail women’s access to contraception and abortion through the Affordable Care Act. The White House did not respond to requests for comment, but when asked Monday about whether a religious freedom executive order was in the works, White House spokesman Sean Spicer told reporters, “I’m not getting ahead of the executive orders that we may or may not issue. There is a lot of executive orders, a lot of things that the president has talked about and will continue to fulfill, but we have nothing on that front now.”
Language in the draft document specifically protects the tax-exempt status of any organization that “believes, speaks, or acts (or declines to act) in accordance with the belief that marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, sexual relations are properly reserved for such a marriage, male and female and their equivalents refer to an individual’s immutable biological sex as objectively determined by anatomy, physiology, or genetics at or before birth, and that human life begins at conception and merits protection at all stages of life.”

The breadth of the draft order, which legal experts described as “sweeping” and “staggering,” may exceed the authority of the executive branch if enacted. It also, by extending some of its protections to one particular set of religious beliefs, would risk violating the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the Constitution.
“This executive order would appear to require agencies to provide extensive exemptions from a staggering number of federal laws—without regard to whether such laws substantially burden religious exercise,” said Marty Lederman, a professor at Georgetown University Law Center and an expert on church-state separation and religious freedom.
