It is almost impossible to put politics aside these days, but I am going to try for at least the length of this one game.
As those of you who have been visiting here for awhile know, I really don't watch football.
Ever.
Except for this one game, which is a tradition I started way back in my early twenties. (I don't remember why.)
Typically I would be spending the game eating greasy fattening foods, drinking beer (Another thing I only do during the Superbowl.) and arguing with my brother about who was going to win and why Mom loves me most. But he recently moved out to Palmer and apparently it is too far to schlep his candy ass into town to watch it in the comfort of my luxurious office.
His loss.
Anyhow like I said before I have not been paying much attention to the game, but I have decided to root for the Atlanta Falcons because....you know.....fuck Tom Brady.
Anyhow I am mostly watching for the commercials anyhow.
Hey! The Bushes are at the game.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I did not think they would make it out of the hospital this time. Especially H.W.
I could have done without Dumbya's parents there. Fuck them.
DeleteWell, I'm no Bush fan but certain things go beyond politics for me, and I teared up.
DeleteYay, Babs!
DeleteI'll never forget, "Go back to Alaska and stay there, $arah!"
2:44 - maybe I did not agree with his politics, but President Bush served his country honourably in WWII; I respect him for his service! Unlike the fuckin' coward trump, he answered the call to serve!
DeleteAbbafan Bush41 may have served in WW2 but he started WW3 in 1945 when he invaded Babs and never pulled out.
DeleteFuck the Bushes. Glad to see him old, decrepit and in Depends.
DeleteI am glad they got to see the game. And for those of you who said F***Y** may I remind you that the Bush family (father, mother and G.W. and Laura voted for Hillary.
DeleteHey Gryphen, what was you service to the country in WW2 again?

Donald Trump Delivers The Worst Presidential Interview In Super Bowl History
ReplyDeleteNever has a president used the Super Bowl interview platform to praise an enemy of democracy while also telling numerous lies to the American people. From voter fraud to jobs to Mexico to Obamacare, President Trump’s interview was filled with lies and falsehoods.
The presidential Super Bowl pre-game interview has been weaponized for use by this White House against facts and truth.
Fox enabled and willingly allowed President Trump to lie to the biggest US television audience of the year. For this reason, Trump’s interview was the worst presidential Super Bowl pre-game interview in history and should give other networks pause about whether or not to continue the tradition while Trump is in office.

A Super Bowl ad from Budweiser that focuses on the hardships endured by an immigrant to the U.S. has triggered a backlash in the days leading up to the big game.
The ad, previewed on TV and the Internet, tells the story of Budweiser’s German founder Adolphus Busch, who traveled to the U.S. in 1857, later teaming up with Eberhard Anheuser to brew the iconic American beer.
During the spot, Busch is treated with suspicion because he doesn’t “look like he’s from around here.” Despite the abuse, he goes on to make history because “nothing stops your dream.”

Pence to attend Super Bowl
ReplyDeleteThe Hill - Feb 3, 2017
Throw a beer at the Son Of A Bitch Trump Anus Licker
On second thought, don't waste your $10 beer.
I heard he'd be there. He's such a prim stick in the mud and stick up the butt, like Orrin Hatch, and I can't see either of them ever being into sports.
DeleteBOO Pence when they announce his name
ReplyDeleteSo how much exactly did it cost the taxpayers to fly Pence in Air Force 2 plus Secret Service to Houston?
DeleteHow much did trump charge folks for a superbowl party?
Go Falcons!
ReplyDeleteGeorgiaPeach
I'm from Cleveland (now in SF) and used to go to Browns games and loved the Browns/Falcons ones way back and former coach Jerry Glanville. I'd love to see the man in black all smiles with a Falcons win today.
DeletePlus, G Peach, I always enjoy your posts and would like to see you get a win today.
Meant to add that the Houston Oiler games with JG and Falcons games were huge back then, back in the '80s-'90s. Always great football. Alas, my beloved Browns have sucked for so long since those days!
DeleteI live in Massachusetts. Am a New Englander through and through and not a fan of Brady. He disrespected President Obama. Never. Forgot.
ReplyDeleteAww! Brady got sacked.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame
Make that sacked TWO times!
DeleteLOL and AGAIN!
DeleteG. Are you on Twitter today with gameplay?
DeleteI wish I didn't have to "hate" Brady because of Trump, but I must. Even though Giselle made it clear that they aren't a Trump voting family, Trump's pleasure at boasting about Brady just makes it impossible to not want a million sacks today.
DeleteSo far so good, 3:25 PM!
DeleteWould I ever like to see a shut out.
I can't stand Brady; never have liked him.
DeleteI don't like Brady because of deflategate cheating.

" Anton argued that the 2016 election put conservatives in position akin to passengers of Flight 93 on 9/11: They could either “charge the cockpit” or “die.”
Delete“If you don’t try, death is certain,” Anton wrote. “To compound the metaphor: a Hillary Clinton presidency is Russian Roulette with a semi-auto.”
"Told congressional leaders at a private meeting that he only lost the popular vote because undocumented immigrants cast millions of ballots against him."Sean Spicer affirmed that this is, in FACT, the president’s genuine understanding of how Hillary Clinton won MORE votes than he did."It is also a sign that the president may have developed his talent for conning the insecure by practicing on HIMSELF."
THAT goes on and on and on, INSANE!
I hadn't checked Lardass' Twitter in a while. He's such a PR whore. He had to make a Super Bowl comment and tie himself to it--it's so f'ing strained, it's hilarious:

It is John Lewis' home down so put me down to root for Atlanta. Hate Brady and the NE cheaters.
ReplyDeleteIs John Lewis also not going to recognize the Patriots as the Superbowl winners? He has a long history of being dumb as rocks and a total asshat.

ReplyDeleteI am not impressed by these commercials. So far the only exceptional one has been the one with the yearbook photos.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. $5M for 30 seconds of that?
DeleteBoring.
I was flipping back and forth between channels and it seemed like almost all the commercials I saw were local businesses. Weird
DeleteFinally the Patriots get numbers on the board.
ReplyDeleteNot many, but some.
Bet the Falcons are playing their hearts out for Rep. John Lewis and the world class metropolis of Atlanta!
ReplyDeleteHoly shit the wingnuts are losing their shit over the SB commercials. The Budweiser one is the most hated because an legal immigrant came to the US and made money. For christ sake these fools couldn't be more shallow unless they bathed in Trumps Pee Tub!
ReplyDeleteDon't these Trump-loving idiots realize that their ancestors came to this country as immigrants? If they were Irish arriving any time after 1848, they were hated and reviled because they were very poor and Catholic. They were greeted with signs that said "No Irish need apply here." If they were Japanese, they were rounded up and kept in camps during WWII while white Californians bought up their properties and businesses. And lots of people were not very welcoming to Vietnamese immigrants who came because they had helped Americans during our war there. And we've never been very nice to African Americans who were brought here in chains. We have a long history of not being very nice to newcomers. Except when the first settlers arrived and they were not very nice to the people who were already here. As a nation, we'd be much better off if we understood our own history.

The Super Bowl is playing out as one giant middle finger to Donald Trump
ReplyDeleteEven as the minority of Americans who still support Donald Trump have spent the day whining that they don’t want politics to be intertwined with the entertainment value of the Super Bowl, there’s no looking past the fact that they voted for a TV reality star. And as the Super Bowl has begun to play out this evening, it’s becoming clear that — intentional or otherwise — the entire proceedings are one big middle finger to Trump and everything he stands for.
Before the game, the NFL trotted out the cast of the Broadway play Hamilton, who have previously lectured Trump’s vice president Mike Pence to his face over the administration’s racist policies. Then the league celebrated the Hall of Fame players who attended historically black colleges and universities, highlighting its multiethnic nature. One of the first commercials from Coca Cola was partly in the Spanish language, as a show of international unity, in direct defiance of Trump’s racist Muslim ban and racist Mexican wall. And then the NFL wheeled out President George H.W. Bush, who famously crossed party lines to vote for Hillary Clinton just to try to stop Donald Trump from taking office.
This is all before getting to whatever kind of political statement Lady Gaga may be clandestinely planning for her Super Bowl halftime show. Word has it that she’s been officially barred by the NFL from doing so, but there would really be nothing to stop her from making a statement against Donald Trump and his policies during her halftime performance, which will air live. Also, Budweiser is expected to air a pro-immigration commercial in defiance of Trump.
Meanwhile, even as Donald Trump has made clear that he’s rooting for the New England Patriots due to his friendship with quarterback Tom Brady, head coach Bill Belichick, and team owner Robert Kraft, it turns out the Atlanta Falcons had the first big play of the Super Bowl.

I kinda like it because it is a big "Fuck You" to Sarah Peepants too.
DeleteSarah: Quick question ....
"Can Brady ever be forgiven for being a pussy?" Would it involve prayer? Chains?
I whispered that p-word knowing how sensitive Trackie is... 'kay?
I am not gloating because my Christian ethics do not permit the "See I told you that your world is doomed until the Rapture."
Nope. Not me.
Sarcastic tweets about liberals supporting the Deep South got short shrift from Joy Reid, who pointed out among many other things that many civil rights activists (including MLK) came from Atlanta.
ReplyDeleteWe're a NE family but the Mr has gone to work instead of watching the football and I only watched Lady Gaga. This is a Trump-free home and we don't support him OR his good buddies.
Aside from that I would be rooting for Atlanta anyway, it has been my opinion since 2008 that it's only a matter of time before they turn Georgia blue. I never think of Atlanta as the Deep South except when I'm watching 'Gone With the Wind'. ;)
Insiders: Donald Trump jealous that Steve Bannon is on cover of Time Magazine
ReplyDeleteLast night on Saturday Night Live, Donald Trump was portrayed as nothing more than a petulant child in the White House, as Steve Bannon (dressed as the Grim Reaper) baited him into doing one stupid thing after another. Bannon then relegated Trump to kid’s desk while taking the main Oval Office desk for himself.

DeleteLady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime show did not feature any direct shots at Pres. Donald Trump, but her opening choices of “American the Beautiful” and “This Land is Your Land” indirectly conveyed a counter-Trump message of welcome and inclusivity.
DeleteShe then went on to deliver a powerhouse performance that featured flying, pyrotechnics, piano playing and tightly choreographed dancing with what looked like at least a million, a million-and-a-half backup dancers, as Pres. Trump would say.
Twitter users had fun with the performance:

DeleteLady Gaga Is Going To Get Political At The Super Bowl After All
ReplyDelete“I believe in the spirit of equality, and that the spirit of this country is one of love and compassion and kindness.”
...Though Gaga kept the details of her halftime performance under wraps, the singer revealed during a press conference on Thursday that her show would be about “equality” and “inclusion.”
“The only statements that I’ll be making during the halftime show are the ones that I’ve been consistently making throughout my career,” Gaga said. “I believe in a passion for inclusion. I believe in the spirit of equality, and that the spirit of this country is one of love and compassion and kindness. My performance will uphold those philosophies.”

Coca-Cola’s Super Bowl Commercial Celebrates What Actually Makes America Great
We hope you’re watching, Donald Trump.
Coca-Cola sent a strong message to all those watching Super Bowl LI on Sunday night: Diversity is what makes America beautiful.
The commercial, which aired early on in the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots, featured a wide array of Americans of various races, sexual orientations, religions and ages, as “America the Beautiful” was performed in multiple languages.
“Coca-Cola, Together Is Beautiful,” the tagline read.

Eichenwald: Neil Gorsuch Is Supremely Qualified, and Must Not Be Confirmed
ReplyDeleteThis is a very hard column to write. I’m about to abandon everything I have believed for much of my life about the proper principles for federal governance. Unfortunately, too many of our political leaders did that long ago, which makes this conclusion inevitable: Federal Judge Neil Gorsuch, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, must not be confirmed. Democrats must fight it to the bitter end. The preservation of the final, tattered remains of American constitutional government demands it.
...The Republicans cannot be allowed to reap the rewards of unprincipled obstructionism that sets a precedent that will destroy the last remnant of our country’s constitutional credibility. They cannot wing it—saying that a court doesn’t have enough work to justify the number of judges it is supposed to have, or that a Democrat should not be allowed to have a judicial nominee confirmed in a fourth year or first year or a full term of a presidency—and just make up rules as they go along, undermining everything this country has stood for just to grab some short-term gain. There are no principles anymore; just as with Alito’s decisions, there are desired outcomes and an infinite number of rationalizations to help anti-American conservatives get there.
So what should the Democrats do? Fight. Recognize the nature of the other party. There is no longer reason; there is no longer fidelity to our history or to the founders’ intents; there is no longer compromise. Republicans cannot be allowed to benefit from their efforts to undermine the intent of the framers of our Constitution. (To give you an idea of how bad this could become if Democrats don’t fight, think of this: That conservative commentator writing for The Federalist who was justifying obstructing every Clinton nominee argued that Republicans, as an option, could constitutionally just let the Supreme Court die if it could be done without paying too high a political price. There is no limit to how far the Republicans may go.)

Eichenwald On Why Democrats Should Block Trump Supreme Court Nominee
Delete...One of the things I find most galling is the Republicans' hypocrisy for complaining that the Democrats are doing the very things they began the moment Obama become president. It would make sense that Republicans think the Democrats are doing this for purely partisan reasons, since this appears to be the Republicans' motive. (Recall McConnell proclaiming the Republicans' top priority in 2009 was to prevent Obama's reelection.) But they must understand that the Democrats have legitimate grave fears about the future of this nation, because a number of Republicans have already expressed such concerns.
Why Eichenwald believes Democrats must go all out to reject the Gorsuch nomination
http://whatdoino-steve.blogspot.com/2017/02/eichenwald-on-why-democrats-should.html
I truly believe that Eichenwald is the only real journalist to emerge from the torturously long 2016 political campaign. He should receive a Pulitzer for his contribution of truthful reporting and analyzing. i hope the Democrats in Congress will pay attention to his words.

Some people tune into the Super Bowl to watch football, but for others, it’s all about the halftime show. And on Sunday night, Lady Gaga demanded everyone’s attention.
ReplyDeleteLady Gaga opened her set during the half-time show with a few verses of “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land” before singing “Poker Face” off her debut album, “The Fame.” She then performed “Born This Way,” “Telephone,” “Just Dance, “Million Reasons” and “Bad Romance.”
Many were wondering whether Lady Gaga would use the show to send a political message. While the singer didn’t actually make a blatant political statement (aside from her opening number), she did perform “Born This Way,” which celebrates individuality and takes a specifically pro-LGBTQ stance with the lyrics, “No matter gay, straight, or bi / Lesbian, transgendered life / I’m on the right track baby / I was born to survive.”
