Today thousands will celebrate President's Day by protesting the one in the White House right now.

Courtesy of NBC News:

Thousands of people nationwide have vowed to spend their Presidents Day Weekend protesting President Donald Trump and his policies at "Not My President's Day" rallies scheduled to take place in at least 25 cities across the country.

This went on through the entire weekend as well, but if you missed them here are some of the protests planned for today:

"Not My President's Day -- Rally," Los Angeles
"Not My President's Day -- Rally (NYC)" New York
"Not My President's Day Rally (Washington DC)," Washington, D.C.
"Not My President's Day -- Rally (Chicago)," Chicago
"Presidents Day Protest KC," Kansas City, Missouri
"Not My President's Day Rally," Denver
"Not My President's Day March," Milwaukee, Wisconsin
"Not My President's Day," Salt Lake City
"ImPEACH NOW! (Not My) President's Day March," Atlanta

Gee it looks as if this activism which started right after Trump's inauguration, and that the Right Wing predicted would peter out quickly, is not doing much petering.

And don't worry if you, like me, are unable to attend any of these rallies.

You can still do your part by writing a letter to your Senators or Congressman, or sending a brief message of dissatisfaction to President Bannon.

Also keep in mind that it is ALWAYS "Not My President" day here on IM.

Too bad trump had to pay people, including minorities to give him love this weekend Instead of acknowledging those California taxpayers who are going through hell.

Too bad the taxpayers had to foot another $3million or so for donnie’s weekend getaway, instead of helping flood victims.

We made calls to our affiliate stations in Charlotte and in Raleigh. There were no specific rallies planned in those areas as of early Monday.

  7. It IS so important to write legislators and keep organizing.

Our Indivisible and DFL groups are co-hosting a meeting this week to keep getting that message out.

We are going to have a bean feed... and the response is overwhelming with offers to bring food and share.

One way or another we will gas those bastards out!

    Resistance Recess is here.
Be a part of this. You can help.

Next week (February 18th-26th) is the first recess of this new Congress. Because man those guys are doing such great work, they deserve a break.

Anyway, Crooked Media is partnering with MoveOn.org to hold members of Congress accountable in every district in the United States. Today we had MoveOn’s Ben Wikler on Pod Save America to talk about how you can get involved, and we’ll be checking in with MoveOn, Indivisible, and with friends of the pod across the country to find out how these town halls and protests are going.

So go here to find out where and how to be a part of this fight:

    https://www.resistancerecess.com/crooked

The site also includes great advice from the grassroots organization Indivisible on what to do if your Member of Congress is missing in action.

This has been a really hard and frustrating few weeks. But the energy and enthusiasm we’re seeing at protests is more than just a bright spot in dark times, it’s actually making a difference.

The health care of tens of millions of people is at stake. Our democracy is at stake. And the only thing these members of Congress fear more than a tweet by Donald Trump is their constituents.

    So get out there.

Trump Wants You to believe Lie About a Massacre in Sweden Wasn’t About a Massacre

Donald Trump wants you to believe that when he was making himself a laughingstock by lying about a massacre in Sweden that never happened he was making criticism of Sweden’s immigration policies. Of course, what he was actually doing was, like Kellyanne Conway, trying to sow fear of immigrants by inventing massacres committed by those immigrants.

In a tweet send out last night, Trump blamed Fox News for his lie:

...Of course, his lie was a nonexistent massacre, not a “statement…concerning immigrants,” which makes his statement seem very harmless when it was anything but.

Yet far from walking back his lie, he upped the ante this morning by tweeting this:

Swedish Police Featured In Film Shown By Fox News Say They Were Selectively Edited

”It was supposed to be about crime in high risk areas... There wasn’t any focus on migration or immigration.”

...But the two officers told the Swedish daily newspaper Dagens Nyheter that their comments were selectively edited by the filmmaker.

”It was supposed to be about crime in high risk areas. Areas with high crime rates. There wasn’t any focus on migration or immigration,” Anders Göranzon told the paper.

Göranzon said they were “answering completely different questions in the interview. This is bad journalism.”

“It feels like hell,” he went on. “The real questions should be shown along with our answers. We don’t own the rights to the film, but the end result is that we don’t want to talk to journalists after this. We can’t trust each other.”

    WARNING!

The movement to dismantle the Department of Education to make room for installing the Christian god and bible in the classroom is underway; replete with a lengthy manifesto for transforming public schools into evangelical madrasas. This is as serious a breach of the United States Constitution as Trump’s violations of the Emoluments Clause, and it is a breach that Donald Trump and education secretary Betsy DeVos intend to see implemented in spite of swearing to support the Constitution.

The five-page “education reform policy” manifesto was created by the religiously conservative Council for National Policy. The group was created when Reagan began tearing down government and it has very close ties to the Trump administration; particularly his woefully unqualified Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. The manifesto demands a “restoration of education in America that promotes religious schools, homeschooling and enshrines historic Judeo-Christian principles” as the basis for public school instruction.

First, notice the demand to “restore” religion in schools implies it ever existed, or that it was ever deemed constitutional. It wasn’t because it is not constitutional and in never existed. But religious conservatives could not care less and the idea of dismantling the Department of Education is one the Koch brothers and Republicans lust to see to fruition.

The manifesto proposes drastically downsizing the Education Department to little more than “a presidential Advisory Council on Public Education Reform,” and would no longer be a cabinet-level agency. Also, all employees should subscribe to the religion-based educational worldview of the Trump administration; “from assistant secretaries to the mailroom.”

There is also a major plan to transform what public schools are allowed to remain into evangelical-based instruction including many actions, like posting the Ten Commandments to teaching Bible classes and recognizing holidays as religious events. The manifesto also demands public school curriculum and instruction come “from a Judeo-Christian perspective;” damn the Constitution and god-damn several Supreme Court rulings that religion has no place in public schools.

The powerful conservative group has no qualms stating unabashedly what its ultimate goal is:

“A gradual return at all levels to free-market private schools, church schools and home schools as the normative American practice.”

That particular goal is, to no-one’s surprise, precisely the same as the Koch brothers’ including using taxpayer dollars to fund for-profit church and corporate schools and pay religious conspiracy-afflicted parents to run their own homeschool madrasa.

This news, and report, could not possibly be more disturbing because based on Betsy DeVos’ complete and utter ignorance of the public school system, and her single-minded drive to eliminate it, coupled with Trump’s lack of direction or awareness of anything other than his deification, the administration will likely do exactly as instructed.

    2. Got news for Betsy.

      The teachers won't do it.

Even if the school boards and administrators bow down before her and consent, the teachers in the classrooms will defy any orders along those lines the same as they did with creationism.

The 26th Amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds ) took only three months and eight days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971 -- before computers, e-mail, cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year or less to become the law of the land -- all because of public pressure.

We are asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise.
In three days, most people in the United States of America will have the message.

    Congressional Reform Act of 2017

    1. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman / woman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they're out of office.

    2. Congress (past, present, & future) participates in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

    3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    5. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    6. Congress must abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

    7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void effective 3/1/17. Congress made these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work.

Agree? Pass it on to your contacts.

    Trump Has No Foreign Policy

There's no such thing as a Trump Doctrine, folks—just an incoherent mess.

...As a result, not only is there nothing even close to a Trump doctrine, which would be more than anyone should expect, but even saying what the administration’s policy is on any given major issue is virtually impossible. This is not just embarrassing, but dangerous. The world will not wait until we get our act together. Left to their own guesswork, adversaries and allies can easily miscalculate the strength of our support or opposition. And other nations—friends like Germany, but also competitors like China—will move to fill any vacuum left by the confusion over America’s basic approach. All this suggests that the handwringing during the campaign about the potential for Trump to squander America’s global position by deliberately shifting the country toward a posture of isolation was misplaced. What is emerging is something else entirely; an abdication of our leadership by default.

Check out video on YouTube featuring Rep Tom Massie and Jason Chaffitz appearing via Skype or other tech on a call-in far-right wing show BRAGGING about co-sponsoring and filing a bill on Friday February 17. Co-sponsored by 6 others. If passed, this would terminate the Department of Education by December 31,2018. Found in a listing 'popular videos - United States Department of Education. Video published by RonPaul.com. Fox carried story of Chaffitz being attacked. I also saw town halls where he was confronted but he later said it was a good exchange. Sorta like the Sweden report on Fox that turned out to be an international embarrassment this past week

Oh, by the way, my Facebook account has been disabled. Be careful and don't post there. I wouldn't even look. I am so aware of internet security but I have to say there seems to be a concerted effort to disinformation and controll access to information. Interesting that the only TV station in Alaska carrying Democracy Now precipitously dropped the show about a week after Amy Goodman aired the security company dog attacks on the Protectors.

Please be careful about what you share with others. It has been a common tactic to plant violence in peaceful protests in a effort to disrupt. The disruption is then blamed on the peaceful protestors.
