CNN reports that the FBI does indeed have evidence of collusion between Trump associates and the Russians during the campaign.

Courtesy of CNN:

The FBI has information that indicates associates of President Donald Trump communicated with suspected Russian operatives to possibly coordinate the release of information damaging to Hillary Clinton's campaign, US officials told CNN.

This is partly what FBI Director James Comey was referring to when he made a bombshell announcement Monday before Congress that the FBI is investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russia, according to one source.

The FBI is now reviewing that information, which includes human intelligence, travel, business and phone records and accounts of in-person meetings, according to those U.S. officials. The information is raising the suspicions of FBI counterintelligence investigators that the coordination may have taken place, though officials cautioned that the information was not conclusive and that the investigation is ongoing.

In his statement on Monday Comey said the FBI began looking into possible coordination between Trump campaign associates and suspected Russian operatives because the bureau had gathered "a credible allegation of wrongdoing or reasonable basis to believe an American may be acting as an agent of a foreign power."

I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that this might have been what Rep. Adam Schiff meant when he said this: If this CNN report is accurate this whole thing is about to blow wide open, and I don't see how the Trump presidency survives it.

Imagine someone had told you, a few years ago, that the FBI would soon be investigating a possible plot by a Republican presidential campaign to help Russia interfere in the US election — and that this interference had ultimately helped Donald J. Trump become president of the United States. You would have laughed in their face, or maybe accused them of confusing reality with a particularly lurid Tom Clancy novel.

But we learned on Monday morning that this is absolutely, 100 percent, without a doubt our reality. FBI Director James Comey confirmed it in testimony before the House Permanent Subcommittee on Intelligence, telling the assembled representatives that his counterintelligence investigators were looking into the Trump team’s links to Russia.

“[The FBI is] investigating the nature of any links between individuals associated with the Trump campaign and the Russian government and whether there was any coordination between the campaign and Russia’s efforts,” Comey said.

We’re so used to reports on Trump’s Russia ties that it’s easy to lose sight of the enormity here: There is an official FBI investigation into a presidential campaign’s possible collusion with a hostile foreign power for the first time in US history. Seasoned national security reporters, like the New York Times’s Matt Rosenberg, can scarcely believe it:

'Folks, let’s take a step back and absorb the fact that the FBI has confirmed there is an espionage investigation involving the White House'

Amid all the sturm und drang surrounding Trump’s fight with the press and intelligence community over leaks, all of the tweets, and hours of congressional hearings, this is what matters. We’re in the midst of what’s already a significant scandal — and one that could, depending on what the FBI uncovers, end up being the biggest political scandal ever in our history.

And it’s not clear, judging by the behavior of the Republicans at the House Intelligence hearing, if our hyperpolarized political system is capable of handling it.

The Russia investigation is absolutely huge

The mere fact of an FBI investigation isn’t proof that the Trump administration has actually done anything illegal. But the fact that there is an investigation at all shows the suspicions are at least serious enough to warrant a full investigation. And in this case, the FBI’s suspicions are supported by a lot of information that’s already in the public record.

    We already know, for example,

If we read History, and the paid elected servants were representing the Constitution and the American Citizens and not Citizen United, than this would never have happened. This country was built by Immigrants, Our laws were formed for protection of USA citizens. Our Constitution was drafted to protect the children of those immigrants and sadly we have allowed invasion and corruption to temporarily interfere in the sprit of our Ancestors that drafted the United States of America Constitution and Laws of this land.

The Investigator Gets Investigated As Rep. Elijah Cummings Calls For Probe Of Devin Nunes

The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) is calling for an investigation into House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) after the Intel Committee chair gave information to a White House under investigation.

...Rep. Cummings (D-MD) is the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee. This is not some backbench member calling for an investigation of Nunes. Cummings has a large platform of his own, and if the ranking member of the Oversight Committee is calling for the Intelligence Committee chair to be investigated, it is a sure sign that the conspiracy to protect Trump on the Russia runs through the Executive and Legislative branches of the US government.

The reason why the Russia scandal has the potential to be worse than Watergate is that Trump tainted actors like Rep. Devin Nunes are using their prominent positions and misusing the powers granted to them as committee chairs to protect Donald Trump.

Devin Nunes was a member of the Trump transition team that is under FBI investigation. His actions on Wednesday compromised the House Intelligence Committee and made it obvious that any congressional investigator with ties to Trump must also be investigated.

9 bonkers things Donald Trump said in his new exclusive interview with Time

“I can’t be doing so badly, because I’m president, and you’re not.”

...Trump thinks it’s okay to repeat a false claim as long as he is accurately stating the fact that someone else made the false claim. He thinks it’s okay to say something false as long as it later turns out that something vaguely similar is true. And he appears to think it’s okay to just straight-up lie and then keep lying for no reason.

What we know about evidence of coordination between Russia and the Trump campaign

...The FBI’s evidence reportedly includes “human intelligence, travel, business and phone records, and accounts of in-person meetings.”

The notion that the Trump team may have coordinated its strategy with Russian intelligence has been alleged for a while now, but so far any actual evidence of this has been circumstantial at best. We already knew that members of Trump’s campaign had spoken to Russian intelligence officials, for example, but we didn’t know what they had talked about.

This is why CNN’s report seems so stunning: It is the first such report suggesting that the FBI may have credible information — say, an account of a meeting where collusion was discussed, to give one wholly hypothetical example — of a possible Trump campaign-Russia plot against Hillary Clinton.

Devin Nunes might be an idiot and possibly a criminal, but I have to give him credit, he is certainly a loyal soldier. He gave it the old college try for the president and the republicans today.

Team trump must have really thought that they were going to find a way out of the huge hole that they have dug for themselves in today. They had their man-- who is the head of the House Intelligence Committee-- make an incredibly stupid move by holding a press conference to tell the world about possibly classified intelligence information. Remarkably, he revealed these things from his "source" without telling it to his fellow members of the committee.

    http://field-negro.blogspot.com/2017/03/messy.html

Devin Nunes is, pardon the insult, a useful idiot in the political realm. He’s been in Congress fourteen years and still doesn’t understand how politics works. He seems to only be the head of the highly politicized House Intelligence Committee because both parties think they can walk all over him as needed. And as the stakes got higher on Trump-Russia this week, someone appears to have decided that Nunes was more useful as a sacrificial lamb.

That’s why Nunes was just baited into committing career suicide. Someone fed him some fairly generic information through unofficial channels which, depending on whether you believe it’s true or not, was either classified intel or falsified evidence. Either way, Nunes committed obstruction of justice when he took the evidence to Donald Trump, the target of a relevant ongoing FBI investigation. And if it was real intel, then he leaked classified information by announcing it to the media afterward.

In real time, we watched the political career of Devin Nunes go up in flames.

It can reasonably be said that our dear leader is now the most ridiculed man on the planet. In fact, he may well be the most ridiculed man in history. For a preening narcissist who takes himself terribly seriously, being the butt of the joke heard round the world has got to hurt. The handpicked assortment of craven nitwits and supplicants that he has surrounded himself with have valiantly tried to insulate him from the derision. But they’re only human. Your heart has to go out to the ones doing the heavy lifting: banty Sean Spicer, the M. C. Escher of the English language, and Kellyanne Conway, the president’s temperament fluffer. (Look away from CNN, Mr. President. There’s something shiny and bright over there!) Engaging as it is to watch these overworked mouthpieces, I fear their days must be numbered. Comments about microwaves that turn into spy cameras and what should be understood when the president puts words in quotation marks are having minimal effect in reducing the scorn heaped upon their boss. Hats off to them for their tenacity, but no amount of spin is going to change the fact that the Trump White House, like the company its inhabitant has run for the past four decades, continues to be a shambolic mess.

...Trump may be a joke, but the chaos and destructive forces around him are not. If he can cause this much havoc during his first few months in office, imagine what the country and the world will look like at the end of four years. Watch him when he walks into a crowd of people. There is a slight grimace, a tightening of the mouth that to me indicates a hesitation, perhaps based on fear. The thing is, if Trump has made any sort of arrangement with the Russians—Kremlin, oligarchs, F.S.B., Mob, or any combination of the four—to drop the Obama-era sanctions in return for past favors, the hoo-ha surrounding his Russian connections now makes that almost impossible to deliver. Whatever support he has received from the Russians over the years presumably came with promises of a payback. If Trump can’t follow through on this, he might be in serious trouble.

FBI’s Russia probe threatens a reckoning for team Trump

...Unfortunately for the president, while such efforts at distraction may well find a favourable audience among his supporters, and perhaps even with much of the general public, they will do nothing to deflect the focus of what we now know to be the most serious threat to his administration: the FBI investigation itself.

A full-scale counterintelligence investigation with this level of priority enjoys practically limitless resources. It has jurisdiction to look under every rock, including any and every aspect of the Trump campaign’s activities that might be relevant to the Russia connection. That includes anything done by anyone flying under Trump’s flag. Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort already faces specific public allegations of having been compromised, as does Flynn. Sometime advisers such as Carter Page, Roger Stone, and J.D. Gordon will also be under investigators’ microscopes, and the Trump administration seems none too keen today to vouch for the propriety of their conduct during 2016.

Given what’s already in the public domain, it’s sobering to contemplate what an access-all-areas investigation into every corner of the activities of individuals such as these may turn up. And if they should end up caught in a legal vice, who knows what information such figures might potentially give up, either about matters currently under investigation or as yet below the public radar? At the very least, we can be assured this is an investigation with the fuel to run some distance yet, and by its end much will likely be known that currently is not.

Ominously for those inside, the protective walls around the administration have already started to crumble.

Devin Nunes Intends to Obstruct Justice

...His press conference performance was a dishonest attempt to suggest that perhaps Trump wasn’t completely wrong when he said that Trump Tower was wiretapped at the behest of President Obama. He couldn’t assert either of those things but he made it seem like he had evidence pointing in that direction.

And his failure to share this information with the Democrats or notify them that he would be holding the press conference shows just how disingenuous his “alarm” really is.

But it’s his intent to share classified investigatory information with the subjects of a counterintelligence (and potentially criminal) probe that constitutes a crime. He must not be very bright. And he’s just destroyed his own committee’s investigation.

Russian Lawyer Thrown From Window Was a Witness for the U.S. Government

A lawyer connected to murdered Putin foe Sergei Magnitsky has been thrown from a window in Moscow. He was a witness for the U.S.

Two common causes of death for contemporary Russians are heart attacks and falling to one’s end from great heights. In some cases, these fatal tendencies even have something to do with high cholesterol or tragic mishaps.

In 2008, a clothing salesman called Semyon Korobeinikov lost his footing on a balcony somehow and tumbled to his demise.

A year later, Korobeinikov was named as the purchaser of Universal Savings Bank, a dubious financial institution that had been fingered by investigators as a way-station for stolen Russian money. Only he didn’t buy the bank. It was part of a government ruse to exonerate the true owner, an ex-convict called Dmitry Klyuev, a reputed mob boss implicated in a series of massive tax frauds that cost Russian citizens $1 billion.

Korobeinikov might have therefore borne witness against Klyuev, if he wasn’t conveniently already 6 feet under.

In 2009, in a related case, Russian tax attorney Sergei Magnitsky was beaten to death by eight prison guards, according to a report published by then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s own human rights commission. The Kremlin claimed he died of a coronary. Then it put him on trial posthumously for tax evasion.

The case prompted U.S. anti-corruption and human rights legislation, known as the Magnitsky Law, which put the Russian government under Vladimir Putin on notice that it could not always get away with such abuses.

Magnitsky was killed by a hybridized state-mafia organization for unearthing a $230 million tax fraud perpetrated against the Russian people. The mob had colluded with the same cops supposed to investigate the crime, tax officials who processed it, and a host of compromised judges in various jurisdictions tasked with covering it up. They were all members of the Klyuev Group, and many are now sanctioned under the Magnitsky Law.

...So, now we come to the case of Nikolai Gorokhov, a lawyer entangled in the Prevezon case as a verification witness for the Justice Department who can expertly identify and authenticate Russian financial documents.

Gorokhov had intimate knowledge of the literature connected with the Magnitsky affair because he has represented the murdered lawyer’s justice-seeking wife and mother for six years.

On Wednesday, he was due to testify in the Moscow City Appeals Court to argue against another court’s refusal to re-investigate the conspiracy that Magnitsky uncovered, based on new evidence. That evidence suggested a former investigative head of the Russian Interior Ministry was fabricating or revising old files related to the case, and doing so at the behest of the Klyuev Group.

But on Tuesday, the 53-year-old Gorokhov plummeted from the fourth floor of his apartment building in Moscow.

Trump told Fox News’ Tucker Carlson that despite all the denials from every institution and person in a position to know, “You’re going to find some very interesting items coming to the forefront over the next two weeks.”

The GOP’s Deal With the Devil Is Unraveling

At this point, Republicans will be lucky if they get their end of the bargain with Donald Trump.

The relationship between President Donald Trump and his allies in Congress is rooted less in a simpatico bond than in a particularly ugly kind of transactional politics.

As is often the case when Trump strikes a deal, his side of it comes first: Republicans tolerate his racism, ignore his corruption, laugh off his erratic behavior, and in exchange he leaves the core of the party’s domestic agenda unmolested. He nominates originalists to the Supreme Court; he breaks all his promises to voters by letting Speaker Paul Ryan set social and economic policy.

Notwithstanding the mythical powers Republicans ascribe to cutting high-income taxes, the terms of the arrangement still leave the country vulnerable to humiliation and grave dangers. Back in November, I argued that this transaction set us in a race against time: Could Republicans squeeze what they wanted out of Trump’s presidency quickly enough to spare the organs of U.S. democracy from fatal damage?

That analysis stands, but may have overestimated Republican competence and underestimated Trump’s toxicity.

The White House on Wednesday sought to again distance itself from President Trump’s former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, who is under increasing scrutiny over his connections to Russian business interests.

But even as Trump officials downplay Manafort’s role, his decade-long business associate Rick Gates remains entrenched in the president’s operation. Gates is one of four people leading a Trump-blessed group that defends the president’s agenda. As recently as last week, he was at the White House to meet with officials as part of that work.

Through Manafort, Gates is tied to many of the same business titans from Ukraine and Russia, including Oleg Deripaska, a Russian oligarch with strong ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. On Wednesday, the Associated Press reported that Manafort had a multimillion-dollar contract with Deripaska between at least 2005 and 2009 that was aimed at helping the political interests of Putin.

If CNN's New Russia Report Is True, We May Be Seeing the Beginning of the End of Donald Trump's Presidency

    The reports won't stop coming.

Donald Trump is in the middle of a non-stop waking nightmare. Every single day finds the nation's most powerful conspiracy theorist at the center of what might be the biggest conspiracy in our nation's history

...Donald Trump and Sean Spicer have repeatedly lied openly and tried to distract the press with garbage theories and doublespeak. And the closer this investigation gets, the more desperate they've become.

Trump’s administration, in its turbulent first months, has drawn fire from both the left and the right, including the ACLU, government ethics accountability groups and former Bush administration officials. But one group has shown nothing but unbridled enthusiasm for the president’s actions thus far: the over 380,000 members of r/The_Donald, one of the thousands of comment boards on Reddit, the fifth-most-popular website in the U.S.

The subreddit, where posters refer to President Trump as the “God Emperor” and “daddy,” is arguably the epicenter of Trump fervor on the internet. Its membership has grown steadily since the 2016 presidential election, though its members were especially active during the campaign. They mobilized to comb through the hacked Democratic National Committee emails published on WikiLeaks and played a large role in spreading information and theories about those emails. More broadly, they waged the “Great Meme War”: an effort to get Trump elected by bombarding the internet with social-media-ready content promoting Trump or bashing Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

If these allegations are true, how is Drumpf's ascension to the presidency not a bloodless coup?

Now, in all fairness, Drumpf's supporters will make the argument that Obama was born in Kenya, hated America and was a secret Muslin. And that would force level-headed Americans to make the difficult comparison of fact vs right wing bullshit, but still....

Donald Trump champion Roger Stone (he of the constant twitter meltdowns and threats to pretty much anyone who dares to challenge him) is not pleased at all with the mounting Russia collusion evidence that could well implicate him in the biggest treason plot in US history.

It was revealed on Monday that Stone was under investigation for colluding with the Russian government for the purpose of getting Donald Trump elected, and by Thursday his freakout had reached full on Stone style hysteria.

Stone sent a freaked out letter to CNN’s Jake Tapper this Thursday morning that includes calling Democratic Ranking Intel Member Adam Schiff a “p*ssy” and threatened to spank his accusers like children.

...This kind of bluster is a huge tell of weakness. Stone’s letter is full of paranoia about the deep state, wild accusations, self-pity and rage. It’s like Nixon without the decorum and intelligence.

    The noose is tightening.

GOP Smoke Screen Falls Apart: Devin Nunes Won’t Deny The Source For His Wiretap Claim Was Trump

Unable to provide evidence or even say who his "source" is, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) refused to confirm or deny if his "source" was the Trump White House.

...Nunes won’t say his source wasn’t the White House and he won’t show anyone his evidence.

This is the person Republicans chose to run the House Intelligence Committee.

Nunes gives all appearances of working as a propaganda machine for President Trump rather than serving as Intel Chair of a very serious investigation that impacts our national security and sovereignty.

Bob Dole 'too'? " Yet despite McCain’s tough talk, behind the scenes his top advisers have cultivated deep ties with Russia’s oligarchy–indeed, they have promoted the Kremlin’s geopolitical and economic interests, as well as some of its most unsavory business figures, through greedy cynicism and geopolitical stupor. The most notable example is the tale of how McCain and his campaign manager, Rick Davis, advanced what became a key victory for the Kremlin: gaining control over the small but strategically important country of Montenegro."

  39. I don't trust that POS Comey after what he pulled on HRC 10 days before the polls. What's going on here? Comey KNEW about the investigation into trump campaign aides and Russia at that time - yet, incredibly he didn't warn the American citizens before the election. Why?

NOW he announces the investigation?! I'm sure I'm not the only one who's confused by his timing. Did he have a fight with his bff Donald? Did he discover the scandal was far worse than he knew before the election? Or is he covering his own ass after the investigative reporters uncovered damning evidence?

I'd like to start a petition and demand a full investigation by a special committee that isn't compromised by these bastards like Nunes - democrats have been asking for a special committee but rethugs keep saying no - why the fuck are we allowing the inmates to run the prison here?

Demand an investigation - this is beyond anything any of us have ever witnessed and it's absolutely terrifying to me. It should scare the living hell out of everyone. Putin has been eliminating witnesses for years. I wonder if cheeto is losing his shit over how vulnerable he may be to putin justice? He should be.
