Google to revamp advertising policies after boycott over ads placed on controversial You Tube videos.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

Google has promised a wide-ranging overhaul of its advertising policies in response to a growing boycott of the company’s platforms from leading brands and advertisers including the UK government, Marks & Spencer and McDonald’s.

In a blogpost published on Monday night, Philipp Schindler, the company’s chief business officer, wrote: “We have strict policies that define where Google ads should appear, and in the vast majority of cases, our policies and tools work as intended. But at times we don’t get it right.

“Recently, we had a number of cases where brands’ ads appeared on content that was not aligned with their values. For this, we deeply apologise.”

Many of the companies involved in the boycott had discovered that their advertising spend was being used to place banner adverts over YouTube videos from groups such as Britain First, indirectly funding extremists and damaging the prestige of their brands.

In response, Schindler has promised a three-tier overhaul of Google’s advertising policies, both on YouTube and on the company’s wider ad products.

My favorite part of this article is that it mentions Breitbart specifically as being the source of fake news and racism.

Hopefully with Google and Facebook now taking ownership of their part in disseminating disinformation and hatred we will soon see a dramatic change in the ability of certain sites to spread racism, homophobia, and misogyny.

And wouldn't that be nice?

What a joke, so after they eliminate the 10 essential benefits, what exactly has to be covered

House GOP Amendment Changes Trumpcare Into 'NoCare'

As the clock ticks on Republicans' opportunity to raise a collective middle finger to Barack Obama's signature legislative achievement, Republicans are closing in on a deal with Donald Trump which will do exactly the opposite of what he promised.
    As Chris Hayes observed:

Get ready for a massive new subprime health insurance market, directly subsidized by billions in government money. Freedom! Markets! Yay!
    — Christopher Hayes (@chrislhayes) March 23, 2017

That's right, welcome to your new subprime health insurance market, where you can pay massive premiums for no coverage whatsoever, while your tax dollars go to subsidize the markets and create new speculation opportunities for billionaire investors.

Jonathan Chait enumerates the ten essential benefits which the amendment will eliminate:
The proposal is to eliminate ten essential benefits that, according to the Affordable Care Act, must be offered as part of any insurance plan. Those benefits are:

Outpatient care without a hospital admission, known as ambulatory patient services
    Emergency services
    Hospitalization
    Pregnancy, maternity, and newborn care
Mental health and substance use disorder services, including counseling and psychotherapy
    Prescription drugs
Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices, which help people with injuries and disabilities to recover
    Laboratory services
Preventive care, wellness services, and chronic disease management
Pediatric services, including oral and vision care for children

In other words, all potential benefits of health insurance, like covering hospitalization and prescription drugs, gone in favor of some sort of ridiculous a la carte system where men don't have to pay for maternity benefits but women would have to pay for men's boner pills if they wanted prescription drug coverage. Apparently men don't have anything to do with pregnancy, either.

This is Paul Ryan's nirvana right here, and apparently it's enough to get the Freedom Caucus on board.......

    1. The vote is on hold right now.

But doubling down on their punishment of the american people, they are trying to add a work component to medicaid. If you're an adult, you can't get medicaid unless you're working. Now forgive me if I'm a bit obtuse, but I thought you couldn't qualify for Medicaid unless you couldn't work.

      (Why do Republicans hate people?)
