It looks like Donald Trump is now picking a fight with the Tea Party who overwhelmingly supported his campaign. More popcorn?

Just to bring you up to speed the Freedom Caucus is the latest iteration of the Tea Party that Sarah Palin helped to popularize way back in 2009.

These are the hard right conservatives that Trump aggressively pursued during his campaign, and who turned out in large numbers to vote for him.

These folks have no intention of "getting on the team" and in fact would rather disassemble the team and start a new hard right version of their own.

Picking a fight with them will all but ensure that Trump never gets anything done.

Reince Priebus deputy is out in Donald Trump’s latest White House staff implosion

Another key person has left the building under odd circumstances

Yet another key member of Donald Trump’s White House team has left the building – and this time it’s hitting closer to home. Trump’s turbulent first two months have seen the resignation of National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, the firing of U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, and the controversial departures of dozens of aides and advisers. But according to Politico, Reince Priebus’s own deputy is also out today.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Katie Walsh has resigned from her job today. She’s instead taking a job with what’s described as a “pro-Trump political group” known as America First Policies. But that group has done nothing and served no function since it was created, and it and seems to largely exist on paper as a place for parking former Trump campaign staffers. This development and its timing stand out as suspicious. No one gives up a White House Deputy Chief of Staff job after just two months, just to take some vaguely defined outside job, unless something has gone terribly wrong or someone wants that person ousted.

Walsh was the top deputy to embattled White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, and her departure (as reported by Politico) will leave Priebus with fewer allies than ever within Donald Trump’s inner circle. The circles of power instead seem to revolve around White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and Trump’s son in law Jared Kushner. One has to ask if Walsh’s sudden departure means that Priebus himself will be the next to go.

White House had tried to fire deputy before he leaked intel to Devin Nunes, but Donald Trump intervened

The identities have been revealed of the two Donald Trump White House aides who leaked classified intel from the FBI’s Trump-Russia investigation to Congressman Devin Nunes. One of them is, as had been widely alleged, White House attorney Michael Ellis. But according to the New York Times, the other is Ezra Cohen-Watnick, a National Security Council deputy who was nearly fired a week earlier – only to have his job saved when Trump himself personally intervened on his behalf.

Back on March 15th it was reported that new National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster – who took the place of the embattled Michael Flynn – tried to fire Flynn’s former protege Ezra Cohen-Watnick. But Cohen-Watnick went running to Donald Trump, who overruled McMaster and allowed him to keep his job (source: JTA). Then just one week later on March 22nd, Cohen-Watnick fed classified intel about the Trump-Russia investigation to Devin Nunes in a nighttime meeting on White House grounds (NY Times). Nunes then went running to the media with the intel the next day, and also inexplicably brought the information back to Trump. That orchestrated series of events led to the House Intel Committee imploding before Sally Yates could testify against Trump.

So now we know that the sequence of events involving Nunes was put into motion by a former deputy of Russian operative Michael Flynn, and that one week earlier, Donald Trump personally intervened to prevent the White House from firing that same deputy. This raises questions of why Trump made a point of keeping Ezra Cohen-Watnick on the job over the objections of his own incoming National Security Adviser, and if this was a quid pro quo arrangement. Now we must dig to determine what other improper political favors Cohen-Watnick may have done on Trump’s behalf.

Freedom Caucus Responds to ‘Vengeful’ Trump: ‘We Don’t Scare Easy’

White House staff say the president is fuming at the right-wingers who killed Obamacare repeal.

President Donald Trump is in a “vengeful mood” over dissent in his Republican ranks, according to officials who spoke to The Daily Beast just hours after Trump threatened the House Freedom Caucus on Twitter on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, Trump once again hate-tweeted the hardline-conservative caucus, calling for an intra-party “fight” against it.

Shortly after the tweet was sent, the White House press office quickly informed curious reporters that Trump’s tweet “speaks for itself.” According to two Trump administration officials speaking to The Daily Beast on the condition of anonymity to talk freely, the president is "in a vengeful mood, again," as one described it.

Another official confirmed an earlier report from The Washington Post’s Robert Costa that Trump plans on “keeping a close eye on who from [the] Freedom Caucus” appears on television this week. The official said Trump has told “[senior] staff to gauge who will be the biggest pain in his ass, and the biggest roadblocks” as his administration moves forward on the legislative agenda.

On Thursday morning, when asked about Trump’s latest fit of hate-tweeting, a senior aide working for the Freedom Caucus simply messaged The Daily Beast, “Meh meh meh.”

Members of the House Freedom Caucus have already signaled that they will take a similar posturing on the issue of tax reform that they did on the Trump-heralded American Health Care Act. Additional early-morning hate-tweeting from the president is unlikely to change that.

"Anonymous threats from the White House, and ones from the president, won't keep conservatives from doing [our] jobs," one House Republican aide said. "If last week should have taught [the White House and leadership] anything it's that we don't scare easy.”

Donald Trump Revives Call To ‘Change Libel Laws’

The president’s war with the media continues.

This is the first time Trump has suggested a change to libel laws since entering the White House.

He said during the campaign that if elected, he would “open up our libel laws, so when [newspapers] write purposely negative and horrible and false articles, we can sue them and win lots of money.” Trump has no power to “open up” libel laws, which are regulated at the state level, not the federal level.

Perhaps the president wants to amend the First Amendment, which stands as a bulwark for freedom of the press, but he can’t do that on his own either. That might explain why he has never followed through with his promises time and again to sue the Times — and legal experts across the spectrum have agreed that he stood little chance in court when he wanted to do so over the publication of his 1995 tax returns.

How States Could Force Trump to Release His Tax Returns

A band of state lawmakers is attempting to succeed where so many others have failed—and it could actually work.

In at least 24 states, legislators have introduced bills that would force Trump (and all other presidential candidates) to disclose their tax returns in order to qualify for their states’ ballots in 2020.

There’s one big obstacle, though: Requiring presidential candidates to release their taxes as a condition of ballot access may not be constitutional. And even if it is, the Democrats sponsoring such legislation run the risk of major retaliatory measures being taken in Republican states.

Russian official Putin tried to kill testifies before Senate

The U.S. Senate is currently holding a hearing featuring the testimony of Vladimir Kara-Murza, who survived an assassination attempt by Vladimir Putin.

Vladimir Vladimirovich Kara-Murza was the deputy leader of the People’s Freedom Party between 2015 and 2016, which is chiefly opposed the policies of Russian President Vladimir Putin. While in power, he frequently criticized Putin’s regime, and was first poisoned in 2015. After recovering, Kara-Murza continued his activism, and is currently Vice Chairman of the group Open Russia, which advocates for social justice in the Russian Federation.

In February, Kara-Murza was poisoned again, and slipped into a coma. He barely survived, depending on artificial respiration to keep his body functioning during the coma, and recently regained consciousness earlier this month.

“I knew straightaway what it was because this was the second time in two years that this happened, and it, and it began almost identically in the same way,” Kara-Murza told NBC News at the time.

On Wednesday, Kara-Murza was invited to testify before the Senate Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs. Watch the proceedings via the livestream below, courtesy of The Hill:

  21. Let's put a stake through the heart of The Palmer Report and stop treating it like it's a legitimate source.

THE PALMER REPORT IS FAKE NEWS.

Others have done the vetting for you. Take a good read.

We'll start with a blog by a paralegal who by definition knows how to do research and vet a source.

    http://www.jensalittleloopy.com/palmer-report-not-credible-source/

"I’m picking on Palmer Report because it’s kudzu. I see articles from Palmer Report shared at least ten times a day, many times by organizations that should know better. Bill Palmer comes off as a liberal savior because he writes what we all want to hear. Of course his articles get shared – they provide hope.
However, Palmer goes a step too far by holding himself out as a journalist. Being dishonest about who he is and what he is doing is dangerous. We must be more selective about the news articles we consume and share. If not, we become part of the problem."

"I don’t like to point to a lack of information to prove a fact, but Bill Palmer the journalist does not exist outside of the confines Daily News Bin and Palmer Report. I could not find a LinkedIn profile, a byline with any publications or websites not created by him, or any other journalistic credentials. He even admits that he has none." (Apparently Palmer used to be a podcaster.)

"While he suggested that he is writing editorial content in his introduction, he calls himself a political journalist on Palmer Report’s About page. An ethical journalist would ensure that distinction is clear. Palmer does not.
If you’re “wondering why you’re not also seeing similar headlines on major news outlets,” it is because major news outlets gather information, fact check, and engage in an editorial process before a news piece is published.
Reviewing a press release or news article, summarizing it, and slapping a clickbait headline on it is not journalism. It is blogging."

    http://modernliberals.com/the-palmer-report-is-not-news-and-its-an-insult-to-the-left/

"The predecessor to The Palmer Report, Daily News Bin spent its time trashing Bernie Sanders and fawning all over Hillary Clinton as if she was the second coming of Christ himself. That is not what a journalist does, that’s the modus operandi of a political blogger who seeks to cash in on an election season and pit supporters of different candidates against each other to further that ad revenue flow."

"Some individuals have even managed to quit their day jobs and work from home producing quality content, but individuals like the owner of The Palmer Report tend to collect a check every month peddling exaggerated stories, conspiracy blogs, and trying to milk every last bit of hope out of Americans desperate to stop Donald Trump from becoming president. Currently, Mr. Palmer is complaining about being on a list of fake news sites, even though The Palmer Report and Daily News Bin are sensationalist blogs posing as news, and he’s definitely not a reporter as he likes to claim."

    https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/2017/01/19/daily-source-bias-check-palmer-report/

Remember, every time you click on click bait, god kills a kitten.

Seriously though, let's stop citing The Palmer Report as a credible source.

    Because IT'S NOT!

If we're going on the attack against Russia and Fake News, we better be above reproach, like Caesar's Wife. The Palmer Report makes us just as guilty as the right in spewing fake news.

Things Go From Bad to Worse for Devin Nunes and Team Trump

Just when you thought the tale of Russian influence on U.S. politics couldn’t get any more twisted: along comes from evidence that the White House orchestrated a ‘leak’ … to itself.

Evidence is growing that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes engaged in an elaborate charade last week when he went to brief the president about what he spun as an alarming development: the U.S. government had spied on some of his top aides.

Nunes claimed that he was visiting the White House to tell the president about ‘incidental collection’ of Trump transition team officials caught up in foreign surveillance. He claimed this information had been brought to him by whistleblowers.

But then Nunes’ story began to fall apart. First came the news that he mysteriously fell off the grid the evening before he briefed the president. That was followed by his admission that he had been on White House grounds that night.

And on Thursday, things went from bad to worse for Nunes and the White House. The New York Times reported that two White House officials were the ones who gave Nunes those intelligence reports.

This means that these White House officials provided documents to Nunes privately, after which Nunes rushed publicly to the White House to brief them on documents he had reviewed. Whether it was the purpose of the charade or not, the mysterious behavior of the chairman has blown up the intelligence community’s investigation into Russia and changed the topic from the FBI’s ongoing investigation into ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.

Thursday’s report means that either Nunes has been lying to the public, or The New York Times is flat wrong on a story that neither Nunes nor the White House will deny.
