Donald Trump takes to Twitter to threaten North Korea. Because Apparently that's how things are done in 2017.

In an earlier tweet Trump also bragged that he told the President of China that he would be willing to make a "better" trade deal with him if he would help deal with North Korea.

Is this Trump's version of "making an offer that you cannot refuse."

By the way it is probably worth mentioning that we have now sent an aircraft carrier and a bunch of warships toward the Korean peninsula as a "show of force by the Trump Administration."

Hey remember when diplomacy was accomplished behind closed doors, and it actually utilized...you know...diplomacy?

Kim Jong Un has made it rather clear that his targets, the ones that he is working hard to create missiles that can reach, is the US Pacific mainland coast. Ain't no reason to waste missile on us; we're very spread out and our most populous city is spread out over many square miles and only has a little more than a quarter million people.

We're a waste of good ammunition. Seattle, Portland, San Fran? They are all within range and much larger human consequence than hitting our one small population center.

5 ways the North Korea situation could spiral out of control

“Eventually they’ll go too far, and the situation will unravel.”

The New York Times reported on Sunday that the US is redirecting several warships toward the Korean Peninsula as a show of force. The decision is a response to North Korea’s test of yet another intermediate-range missile.

For decades, presidential administrations have tried — and failed — to curb North Korea’s nuclear weapons program. The Trump administration’s approach so far has been both aggressive and confusing.

A week ago, for example, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson released a statement that read: “The United States has spoken enough about North Korea. We have no further comment.” Does that mean negotiations are over? It’s not clear.

Although Tillerson insists that America’s policy remains a denuclearized North Korea, not regime change, dispatching a naval armada to the region suggests we’re inching closer and closer to a potential clash.

Yesterday, moreover, we learned that China was sending 150,000 troops to the North Korean border to prepare for the potential flood of refugees in case the United States launches a preemptive strike. Such a strike remains highly unlikely, but China’s actions are indicative of how dangerous the situation has become.

To understand how close we are to full-scale conflict in North Korea, I reached out to Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. Lewis focuses on nuclear nonproliferation, international security, and disarmament, and he is the author of Minimum Means of Reprisal: China's Search for Security in the Nuclear Age.

I asked Lewis to lay out some of the worst-case scenarios in North Korea.

    Here’s what he told me.

An informative article, and well worth the read. His five ways of war breaking out seem to be well-reasoned, and somewhat scary, considering we have Kim Jong in North Korea, and Donald in the United States.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous3:47 PM

Scenario 1: The North Koreans mistakenly believe that we are going to launch an attack on them, and Kim Jong Un does something crazy.

2: The North Koreans stage yet another provocation, only this time it goes too far and South Korea responds.

3: The Trump administration talks itself into a conflict it can’t contain.

4: North Korea’s pursuit of nuclear weapons finally spawns an arms race with Japan, which in turn extends to other regional powers.

5: The North Korean regime collapses internally, creating a failed state.

The Wash. Post story explains that there wasn't even a problem with overbooking but that four UA employees needed to get to Louisville to man another flight. Simply astounding that a legitimate, paying passenger could be man-handled that way because the airline itself had screwed up with its own employees. I agree with the doctor; it was done because he is an Asian-American. Maybe they thought he would be more compliant (stereotyping, perhaps?) but, in any event, it was an egregious act. Travel has become a living hell for Americans today. I dread the thought of flying. All sorts of people with thuggish personalities think they can treat travelers any way they want. That's what comes from having a tyrant in a White House full of thugs.

Ellen DeGeneres Mocks United’s ‘Crazy’ Policies: ‘Your First Forcible Removal Is Free’

Even Ellen DeGeneres had some harsh words for United Airlines this week.

...DeGeneres said she also found it “crazy” that United prevented teenage girls from boarding a flight last month because they were wearing leggings. “I’ve seen more yoga pants at the airport than I’ve seen in yoga classes,” she said, joking that planes aren’t exactly Downton Abbey.

“It doesn’t make sense, everyone should be able to wear yoga pants on a plane if you want,” she added. “I think United didn’t want people to wear yoga pants because there’s nothing to grab when you’re yanking someone to pull them out.”

Donald Trump Is the Personification of Toxic Masculinity

Never has President Trump seemed more macho to his people than when he punched Bashar al-Assad in the face with a slew of Tomahawk missiles.

President Donald Trump is like an erect penis: He’s single-minded, obsessed with invasion, and dying to shoot. (He’s also wrinkly, rigid, and a dick—I could go on.) He seems to function as the symbolic phallus of his fans, as if he’s the embodiment of testosterone. Trump makes them feel masculine and energized and powerful, like a political Viagra.

Many seem to envision Trump’s penile qualities as a good thing—as if by swinging his dick around in his first months in office, he’s shattered conventions and magically improved a staid, corrupt, overintellectualized Washington. Never has he seemed more macho to his people than when he punched Bashar al-Assad in the face with a slew of Tomahawk missiles. In reality, it may have been more of a strong kick in the shins—that airstrip they bombed was reportedly operational the next day—but hey, bombing the Middle East will always warm certain American hearts. Trump’s approval rating among Republicans is over 80 percent and the assault on Syria won’t hurt.

So much of Trump’s appeal is wrapped up in his sense of machismo, but he borrows almost exclusively from the worst of American masculinity, clinging to an old school version of manliness that’s about toughness, bluster, an imperative to superiority, a disdain for humility, and a need to dominate others—especially women.

Trump’s concept masculinity seems to guide his politics, which is so much about attempting to dominate Barack Obama, Muslims, the media, and other enemies real or perceived. He bangs his chest and drops bombs when Assad offends his sensibilities. He was so moved by images of Syrian children being gassed that he dropped bombs to avenge people who he wouldn’t allow to move here. Indeed, the most overtly macho moment of Trump’s presidency, bombing Syria, flowed out of his most emotional moment—his response to the gassing of Syrian children, which seems to have made Trump genuinely sad. It’s almost like he’s punishing Assad for making him feel “womanly” emotions like empathy and sadness, but really he’s just showing the world that he’s the man. He hated what Assad did and he wanted to show him how tough America can be to scare him.

Assad got out of line and Trump flexed his muscles and projected power. Was it effective in Syria? Probably not. The country has been mired in a bloody, complex civil war for years. ISIS is centered there. They’re used to explosions. But the attack will be effective on Fox News and on right-wing talk radio where Trump will be portrayed as a no-nonsense tough guy who’s not afraid to let our military flex its muscles.

The modern male learns manliness from a different playbook than his father—he’s taught to be more open with his feelings, to be more aware of his failings, to show respect for other sorts of people, especially women. Modern men may fail to live up to that ideal—we may fail often—but we’re trying. The old school ideal of manliness—that Gary Cooper, John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Trump sort of man? He was not trying. He saw himself as a king—all others get out of the way. He was so surrounded by entitlement that it was to him as water is to fish. Trump brings that horrible impulse with him to his job as well as many other deplorable aspects of old school masculinity.

Let me count three of the most maddening ways:

Schumer: If Trump doesn’t release his tax returns, ‘it’s going to make tax reform much harder’

By Ed O'Keefe April 11 at 11:51 AM

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) speaks with reporters at the Capitol on Feb. 15. (Mario Tama/Getty Images)

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) is warning that President Trump needs to release his personal tax returns if he hopes to achieve comprehensive tax reform in the coming months.

“It’s going to make tax reform much harder” if Trump doesn’t release his returns, Schumer told reporters Tuesday. Anytime the president proposes something on tax reform, “the average American is going to say, ‘Oh, he’s not doing that because it’s good for me, he’s doing it because it’s good for him.’ So for his own good, he ought to make them public. And the big mystery is why he hasn’t.”.....

Appearing on MSNBC, GOP strategist Rick Wilson dismissed the idea that President Donald Trump is in the process of creating a “Trump Doctrine” calling the president a “man-baby’ who can’t “focus on anything for more than 30 seconds.”

Speaking with All In host Chris Hayes, the caustic Republican consultant said that rumors of a Trump “rebranding” is absurd, and that the president has no agenda and is only looking out for himself.

“Chris, this is a president with a stalking gigantic case of ADHD,” Wilson began. “He cannot focus for 30 seconds on anything. Every bright and shiny object distracts him and he doesn’t believe anything in his heart. There’s no ideological North Star for this guy, there’s nothing he truly cares about except for his own ego. Everything is drawn to the event horizon of his ego.”

“He’s not a guy who has thought about issues and thought about policies beyond what he thinks gets a good applause line at rallies,” he continued. “The fact that this is a guy with a famous slogan on a red hat is not a legislative or political or governance agenda at all.”

...“Every president benefits from having a strong, effective chief of staff. Reince Preibus is a nice man and good administrator in some ways, but he is not adult supervision for this man-baby president,” Wilson said as Hayes and Steele both began to laugh.

“He’s not able to say to Trump, ‘Stop tweeting, shut up, read your speeches, go to these events, do these things, make these calls. Stop having 47 people rush in and out of your office and change your mind on things every 30 seconds,” he ranted. “You know, there’s a lot of talk about whether Reince Priebus will leave or stay. The question is would you even notice at this point? This is a president who manages himself, he is not managed by a chief of staff. Every president needs one — it’s an iron law of Washington.”
