Without their favorite boogeyman. President Obama, the gun industry is seeing sales drop precipitously.

Courtesy of Fox News:

President Trump’s election appears to be negatively affecting gun sales in the U.S. and the bubble appears to be bursting despite a staunch advocate for gun rights in the White House and Republicans ruling Congress.

"President Obama was the best gun salesman the world has ever seen," Karl Sorken, a production manager at Battle Rifle Co. in Houston. Sorken is an Army veteran and self-described liberal who voted for Obama and notes the change for the industry under Trump is a topic of conversation in the shop.

Fears of government limits on guns -- some real, some perceived -- led to a surge in demand during Obama's tenure and manufacturers leapt to keep up. Over the decade ending in 2015, the number of U.S. companies licensed to make firearms jumped 362 percent.

"The trends really almost since Election Day or election night have been that gun sales have slacked off," said Robert Spitzer, political science department chairman at State University of New York at Cortland. "When you take away Barack Obama and you give the Republicans control of both houses of Congress, which is extremely friendly to the gun lobby, then the political pressure subsides. And that surely is at least a key part of the explanation for the drop-off in sales."

The Washington Post reported that the FBI conducted about 500,000 fewer background checks in December 2016 then in 2015. Gun sales this year have reportedly dropped about 17 percent.

I bet those gun dealers are really wishing that Hillary won the election, because she freaked out the ammosexuals almost as much as Obama did.

So now they finally have the president that they thought that wanted and their business goes right to hell in a hand basket along with the rest of the country.

Irony is a cruel mistress.

There is one bright note however, apparently there are now some liberals so freaked out over the election that THEY are arming themselves.

That is just wrong on so many levels.

As you might imagine I remain just as dedicated to gun control as always, and will not be purchasing a firearm of my own.

However I do understand that it's a buyers market right now.

And the bird brain dishonoring and contaminating our white house tweets again this am something about Hillary not saying she is sorry!!!!!

When will our paid servants order Military and Law enforcement to have this non functioning idiot arrested and take him in for treatment? This is so harmful to America. It is time to remove this toxic waste of time and money. The damage caused by him and his Russian operatives is alarming.

    1. Ask Paul Ryan and the House Republicans when they're going to do their jobs and impeach that orange buffoon for the many violations of his oath of office and the Constitution.

Then ask McConnell when he's going to have Republican Senators do their jobs and impeach the bastard.

The answer will be Never and Never.

I don't think the public could put enough pressure on the House and Senate to successfully impeach their Dullard Despot. They have no motivation to, since as long as he is in office they get everything they want and he is a distraction to the public so no one notices what they're doing until it's too late.

You're talking about a military coup, and I for one will not support such an approach. We have a legal system of impeachment in this country.

    1. Our legal system has been usurped. The only way to impeach is through Congress and the Republicans own both the Senate and the House. They aren't going to do anything with their puppet in the White House. They are that corrupt. McConnell is leading them down the path to fascism and dictatorship.

If Donald Trump tries to nuke North Korea in some sort of preventative first strike, you may very well see a military coup. We may need them to save us from the corruption of the last election.

I live in a heavily Republican and Tea Party rural area of Virginia. Last week I was in the local gun shop buying gun cleaning and reloading supplies, talking with the owner. Sure enough, business has slowed to a trickle -- he is selling almost ZERO new guns since the election -- his business now is similar to mine, supplies and some ammo.

The favorite weapon for the anti-Obama gunnuts was the AR-15 -- my guy has marked down every AR-15 in the shop, and accessories, to bargain bin levels and still no interest. I'll pick up one when he starts giving them away.

    1. I imagine many of those AR-15s will be unuseable in a few years. They were probably made as cheaply as possible and without rigorous and regular maintenance will probably be nothing but iron clubs in a few years. Many that bought multiple guns to stock up probably are too lazy to maintain them.

    2. mlaiuppa, now you're just dreaming.

" Saunders believes that many Trump supporters suffer from what he calls “usurpation anxiety syndrome,” which he defines as “the feeling that one is, or is about to be, scooped, overrun, or taken advantage of by some Other [like illegal immigrants] with questionable intentions.”" “Our enormously productive economy . . . demands that we make consumption our way of life, that we convert the buying and use of goods into rituals, that we seek our spiritual satisfactions, our ego satisfactions, in consumption. . . . We need things consumed, burned up, worn out, replaced, and discarded at an ever increasing rate.”

"Gun sales in America hit record levels in October amid fears a Hillary Clinton election victory would lead to increased controls."
"As a transgender woman, she does not fear for her personal safety in the Californian city where she now lives but she says she knows people in rural areas "who woke up and found a bunch of swastikas and words like 'faggot' and 'trannie' scrawled all over their building".
Gwendolyn Patton, of the Pink Pistols, a club for for gay, lesbian and transgender gun owners, says new members fear being "harassed by the gun nuts at the range".
But she says they are mostly "welcomed with open arms by the shooting community".
"There are people who have professed to carrying a gun now because Trump made them feel unsafe," she says.
"I think their fears are groundless but I can't make them not be afraid, so whatever they need to do to feel safer, I don't have a problem with that as long as they do it responsibly."

    Thanks G.

"“If I wait to find out if he had a gun or not, I could very well be dead,” Shelby claimed. Then the key sentence: “There’s something that we always say: ‘I’d rather be tried by 12 than carried by six.’”

This, in short, is a police officer conceding that she acted by “shooting first, ask questions later.” And while the mantra Shelby recites is common — not just among law enforcement, but in general — its basic meaning shouldn’t escape us."

  11. This is part of the reason Cabela's stock has dropped so low and it may be messing with the Cabela's buyout by Bass Pro Shops.
