Donald Trump threatens James Comey over possibility of taped conversations.

Holy shit! Is this man actually threatening the man he just fired as the head of the FBI?

This has to be in response to the New York Times article that claims Trump asked Comey for a pledge of loyalty:

As they ate, the president and Mr. Comey made small talk about the election and the crowd sizes at Mr. Trump’s rallies. The president then turned the conversation to whether Mr. Comey would pledge his loyalty to him.

Mr. Comey declined to make that pledge. Instead, Mr. Comey has recounted to others, he told Mr. Trump that he would always be honest with him, but that he was not “reliable” in the conventional political sense.

By Mr. Comey’s account, his answer to Mr. Trump’s initial question apparently did not satisfy the president, the associates said. Later in the dinner, Mr. Trump again said to Mr. Comey that he needed his loyalty.

Mr. Comey again replied that he would give him “honesty” and did not pledge his loyalty, according to the account of the conversation.

But Mr. Trump pressed him on whether it would be “honest loyalty.”

“You will have that,” Mr. Comey told his associates he responded.

Damn!

To me this sounds as if Trump was trying to pressure Comey into sabotaging the Russia probe and to instead agree to protect Trump from possible prosecution or impeachment.

Of course the White House is denying this account. (Of course.)

One has to wonder if part of Trump's concern is over the fact that Comey has been invited to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee nest Tuesday?
Courtesy of Second Nexus:

A day after being fired by Donald Trump, FBI Director James Comey was invited to testify in closed session in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee next Tuesday, May 16. The invitation was extended by both the committee’s Republican Chair, Senator Richard Burr, as well as its Democratic ranking member, Senator Mark Warner.

I am hoping like hell that Comey takes them up on this.

Clearly he has much to share, and now without the constraints of being the actual director of the FBI he might be a little more forthcoming than he was during his last appearance before the Senate.

I still assume that he cannot share classified information, however he should feel more free to share information about conversations he had with Trump, or with Trump associates.

Comey's loyalty is to the United States of America and its citizens. That tRump asked Comey for personal loyalty speaks to tRump's unsuitability for office at best, and could be considered the actions and desires of a fascist proto-dictator at worst.

Trump obviously did not understand the oath that he took on Jan. 20. His loyalty, like that of any other federal government employee, is to the Constitution of the United States of America. No one swears "loyalty" to an individual. Comey's apparent response, that he would always be honest was obviously not what Trump wanted to hear. Trump truly is the emperor who wears no clothes; someone had better explain that story to him. Soon.

Haven't you heard, Beaglemom? T.Rump thinks the Constitution (and our checks and balances system of government that it created) is an archaic document that just impedes his ability to run roughshod over everyone else or anything that keeps his businesses and family from making money.

Note the date of this article: November 23, 2016
"10 Ways to Tell if Your President Is a Dictator
Just because the United States is a democracy now, it doesn’t mean it will stay that way." by Steven M. Walt, Foreignpollicy.com

      http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/11/23/ten-ways-to-tell-if-your-president-is-a-dictator/

      1) Systematic efforts to intimidate the media. (Fake news, "The media is the enemy."

      2) Building an official pro-Trump media network. (Fox News already in place.)

      3) Politicizing the civil service, military, National Guard, or the domestic security agencies.
(The Director of the FBI fired.)

      4) Using government surveillance against domestic political opponents. (Using a foreign government to do it for him.)
      5) Using state power to reward corporate backers [and family] and punish opponents.

      6) Stacking the Supreme Court. (The GOP congress refused to allow Obama to appoint anyone.)

      7) Enforcing the law for only one side. (Where do we start: emoluments? refusing to divest his business holdings? profiting from the position of President?)

      8) Really rigging the system. (If you want to know what Trump is guilty of, just see what he is saying about his opponents.)
      9) Fearmongering. (How soon before there is a staged terrorist attack and he declares martial law?)

      10) Demonizing the opposition. (And all “Other” — Muslims, etc., etc.)

From the article above -- dated Nov 23-2016

      http://foreignpolicy.com/2016/11/23/ten-ways-to-tell-if-your-president-is-a-dictator/

      Final paragraph:
"...This list of warning signs will no doubt strike some as overly alarmist. As I said, it is possible — even likely — that Trump won’t try any of these things (or at least not very seriously) and he might face prompt and united opposition if he did. The checks and balances built into America’s democratic system may be sufficiently robust to survive a sustained challenge. Given the deep commitment to liberty that lies at the heart of the American experiment, it is also possible the American people would quickly detect any serious attempt to threaten the present order and take immediate action to stop it.

"The bottom line: I am by no means predicting the collapse of democracy in the United States under a President Donald J. Trump. What I am saying is that it is not impossible, and there are some clear warning signs to watch out for. Now, as always, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Or to use a more modern formulation: If you see something, say something."

Jesus Christ! First he threatens Sally Yates before she testified and now Comey. There could be tapes, after all, if anyone would know about having a tape used against them, it would be Donny. I want Comey to answer theses questions; did u ever tell trump he was not being investigated? Did he ever ask u about the Russia investigation? Did u ask DOJ for additional resources for the Russia probe which DOJ denies? Do u know if your deputy director really told Reince Priebus that a NYT story was BS as the White House claimed? Were u ever given any indication u might b fired? Tru.p claims u requested to have dinner with him so u could ask to keep ur job, what actually occurred at this dinner? There is something very despotic about trump demanding loyalty to him as opposed to loyalty to country, Constitution and rule of law. And I want to see the DAG called before Congress for his side of the story in firing Comey. And Sessions too, for violating his recusal.

Last evening we watched an Anthony Bourdain program about Provincetown MA and other communities in that state where heroin addiction is alarmingly high - among the working and non-working white population. As in other parts of the country, it all began with the excessive prescription and use of opiod medications. This is and always has been a tragedy. More money thrown at private prisons will not help anyone except those who've invested in private prisons. Do Trump and Sessions have stock in any of those companies?

What I would like to see is a diagram of the organization of our government, drawn by Trump. I bet anything that he would show the president at the top and in charge of every other organization. He seems to think that he is the boss of everyone in government and this little task would probably result in proof of that. THEN, he could be tossed for having the idea he is the emperor and not merely the president. Or, at least we could hope that would help push him out.
