FCC may go after Stephen Colbert for suggesting that Donald Trump's mouth was Putin's "c**k holster."

Courtesy of The Hill:

Late night talk show host Stephen Colbert’s controversial joke about President Trump drew the attention of the Federal Communications Commission. The agency received “a number” of complaints about Colbert’s commentary earlier in the week, according to the FCC’s chief.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai promised to “take the appropriate action” following a comprehensive investigation of Colbert’s remarks.

The FCC's response will depend on whether Colbert’s remarks are considered “obscene.”

“We are going to take the facts that we find and we are going to apply the law as it’s been set out by the Supreme Court and other courts and we’ll take the appropriate action,” he told Talk Radio 1210 WPHT Thursday.

“Traditionally, the agency has to decide, if it does find a violation, what the appropriate remedy should be,” he said. "A fine, of some sort, is typically what we do.”

Somehow I doubt that Colbert is going to sweat any FCC fine, since currently his show is enjoying its best ratings since it first went on the air:

As conservative activists call on CBS to #FireColbert, the network reports that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has just scored its best overnight rating since the week the show premiere in September 2015. Thursday night's episode scored a 2.5 rating, far surpassing NBC's Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, which came in at 1.9. According to CBS, this number marked a 19% increase from the previous Thursday and a 32% bump from the same night last year.

By the way if you are one of the few people who have not yet seen the bit that caused all of his hullabaloo, well here's your chance to join the club.

And you're welcome.

It won't work! Remember, they tried to go after Bill Maher too and backed off due to 'freedom of speech'. Bill has said some pretty nasty things about Trump and the majority of Americans support both Maher and Colbert. They BOTH have high ratings and excellent shows. Both are smart, well read, knowledgeable and funny!

Trump has used some pretty nasty words too - like pussy! What is the difference between cunt and pussy? Zero!!

Watch Colbert's ratings go up, up, up! I've always watched him and think he is spot on as to Trump. Absolutely spot on!

    1. All Colbert would have to do is start a GoFundMe (or whichever one allows you to do legal defense stuff) and ask his viewers for $1 each to pay his fine, with any excess going to the ACLU or some charity and watch how fast he'll surpass whatever fine they choose to levy.

This is a guy that had a SuperPAC that mocked the Koch brothers, Citizens United, the Supreme Court and the Federal Internal Revenue Service.

The FCC dosen't stand a chance. Colbert would love more than anything to take this to the Supreme Court or testify before Congress (again).

Cock tail use them together and it's fine. Use them apart and pay a fine

    Cotton balls....

Hat tip to George Carlin- longer list of seven words you can't say on TV.

Not to mention, the FCC has generally only considered 6-10 "safe harbor." Bit this ought be fun.

Just to alert anyone who might not have seen last night's Colbert show --- he announced then that next Tues all the gang from The Daily Show are appearing -- Jon Stewart, Smantha Bee, John Oliver, Ed Helms and Rob Corddry. Must see TV, I'd say!

    2. The only way they could succeed is to get all of the sponsors to drop Colbert. With ratings like that, that's not gonna happen.

PLEASE let massive lawsuits take trump out of commission.

  12. I'm sure Reince and Donald are having another look at that pesky First Amendment and how they can get rid of it.

I have no doubt Colbert's ratings are up and this free publicity will only drive them higher. Is Colbert out-performing Fallon? You betcha. Fallon always plays it safe and Colbert always stretches the envelope. Not in a Carlin or Bruce sort of way but in his own rebellious, tongue in cheek way.

He's all we've got now that Stewart has retired and Bee is on cable and Oliver and Maher are on HBO.

Colbert will happily pay the fine and then say it again. He'll also give the FCC the same treatment.

If Trump doesn't like it? We'll, I suppose he could always stop being Putin's cock holster.

Colbert is having a big, big show this coming week. Stewart, among others, will be on w/him! I'm sure this particular show will draw him huge ratings - and, the panel will obviously be very anti Trump and his doings. Can hardly wait to watch!

Colbert is doing this panel intentionally to counter the negative. He'll be the winner and rightfully so!

Colbert's "joke" may have been tasteless but late night television is full of tasteless humor. He's being singled out because he has lampooned and lambasted Trump so well. It may also be some kind of retribution for Colbert's brilliant takedown of Bush and Cheney at that long-age White House Correspondents' Dinner.

Oh my. He said the two dreaded words: cock-a-doodle-doo, and holster. BFD. I was far more offended by trumps grabbing of pussy and his proclamation on Stern that women can't be 10's if they lack giant boobs (looking forward to his EO signing on that one). And he's now the president. Colbert is a comedian. Get over it people. Ps. I didn't think that particular joke was funny, but I do enjoy trumps frustration at the inability to control the narrative. He's just a horrible little man baby.

The only time I've given any political donation was to Colbert's Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow PAC when he was trying to make a point about the financial "gray area" of PAC and SuperPAC spending and accountability.

$500 well-spent because he and Stewart together really got out the message about PACs and SuperPACs and the lack of oversight both for donors and the PAC expenditures thanks to their hilarious "under the table" collusion (but not really collusion) regarding his PAC and the lawyer that was assisting.

Not that it changed anything but it was at least a good education for those that spent the time to watch that season and how it progressed. Plus, he raised a lot of money that ended up NOT going into politics but into much better causes.

The system is broken, that's why we are where we are today and I really hoped that this little Colbert experiment would wake people up enough to help legislate a change, but alas, it wasn't to be and that is why our family doesn't give a dime to campaigns, PACs, party-affiliated money grabs or any other politically-associated money pits.

Through the years we've found the most important thing we can do is vote in every election that is allowed us. Vote, that's the end all be all and all the money in the world can't undo the fact that, on average, less than 40% of registered voters participate, and in local elections that number is often lower.

That's your voice; not your dollars but your vote.

Trump has already said he was anti the free press in America. Should this come as a surprise that he and his would come after Colbert?

Colbert has high ratings, has said appropriate things about Trump (Trump's commentary has been awful - review the facts!) and I am one American that never misses Colbert's show!

He's going to have quite the show this coming week - anti Trump folks - to include John Stewart! Be sure and watch!

What was that he said on the private island while raping a 13yr old little girl tied to the bed with his buddy? Something about who was to go first raping the little virgin girl? The guy is a dangerous liar pure and simple. He has a dangerous mental disorder. And amendment 25 should be applied to his resignation or impeachment. NOW.
