Greta Van Susteren is out at MSNBC!

Courtesy of Vanity Fair:

The anchor, whose show struggled to gain traction even as the rest of her colleagues were buoyed by anti-Trump hysteria, has parted ways with the network. She will not appear on the show on Thursday evening. She will be permanently replaced by Ari Melber, the network’s chief legal correspondent and host of the The Point on weekends. He will continue to appear across NBC and MSNBC shows as he takes over the 6 p.m. slot next month. (MSNBC and NBC News declined to comment. Reached by phone Thursday afternoon, Van Susteren had no comment.)

The decision comes as much of the rest of MSNBC has been enjoying a ratings resurgence, and, in some cases, dominance over Fox News. For the first time in 17 years, the network beat both Fox News and CNN in prime-time viewership on weeknights in May amongst the crucial 25-to-54 age demographic—a giant 118 percent leap from a year earlier. In the full second quarter, according to ratings released by Nielsen earlier this week, the network came in second behind Fox for total day viewers, but its growth from a year earlier outpaced both its rivals. Much of this growth is due to prime-time anchors like Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell, whose nightly newscasts have tapped into a potent mix of liberal anxiety and schadenfreude over the Trump presidency.

Good, about damn time!

And she should be followed by Megyn Kelly ad Hugh Hewitt just as soon as possible.

They are simply not good journalists, nor are they in line with the politics which make people tune into MSNBC.

I am proud to say that I have never watched a single episode of Greta's show, and I would even turn the volume down when she appeared on other MSNBC shows to provide commentary.

I have not forgotten what she and her associates did during the Obama presidency, nor how she helped to validate Sarah Palin and her husband to her Fox News viewers.

She was part of the Fox "Fake" News and she has no place on a cable news network that prides itself on accuracy.

Now perhaps MSNBC has learned its lesson and will discard this ridiculous experiment of giving Right Wing trolls their own shows, and start getting more intelligent progressive voices on the air.

When she was involved with the Simpson trial I developed respect for her fair mindedness. Then she went to FOX and was a totally different person. Her constant attempts to undermine Obama and - as you said - her fawning over the Palins was just too much. I frankly do not care where she goes or what she does. I could not figure out why she went to MSNBC.

    2. I could not figure out why they gave her a show. I also could not get over her pursuit of the Palins. She really did fawn over them. I, for one, skipped any show she was on and agree with you in not caring where she goes or what she does.

Her pursuit of Palin was a Scientology thing. Palin is no longer a desirable target.

$annity: “All right, so I don’t know if you have the same thing, what do they call this matchmaking thing, TIMBER and all that other stuff that they got? TINDER and all that other stuff?” THEN>she said. “Like, if you have to form a relationship online it probably means that in real life you’re a bit of a prat and nobody wants to hang out with you.”

wtf? msnbc is very sketchy. taking on fox people. that megyn person is worst than palin using her body for sales. most of the networks are rating whores. one thing the fox execs taught anyone was if it sells, sell it. now all their whores have to pimp themselves. awful! all we wanted was truth and we ended up with fox network, lyin brian and bullshit king donald trump.

Greta has always seemed a bit sophomoric to me. I thought her infatuation of the Palin's was kind of wanting to hang with the cool kids (according to FOX, at the time). She didn't translate to MSNBC well at all so I'm not surprised she's out this quickly.

MSNBC got rid of so many good people. Still some great ones left - watch them and some on CNN. You are right about Martin - miss him.

I suspected that was coming! She was running ads to promote her show, so thought her in trouble. Plus, I'm one that always turned her off on MSNBC. Prefer Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell.

I also like Chris Hayes - I wish his rates were better as he tries really hard and is so enthusiastic.

Joy Reid - another great one. Love that lady.

  10. Greta wasn't too bad on CNN, way back when. She went to Fake Noize and had her eyes done and went completely off the rails.

Did you hear her today with Chris Hayes and Dan Rather describing the Trumps as royals, the congress as courtiers, and the rest of us as peasants? It was frighteningly spot on, she nailed it. She deserves a show of her own (again). Sharp, witty, well informed -- I always enjoy hearing her take on things.

Megyn Kelly is NBC, not MSNBC despite the close association between the two networks.

Someone I know called her Greta Van Strokeface. I know that's unkind, but she has devoted way too much time and energy trashing Obama and promoting Palin. I have had trouble watching Greta since way back when she was on CNN. Could never figure out what TPTB saw in her. Bye-bye, Greta.

Let's bring this up to Trump since he thinks a face lift is worth mentioning.

When Lawrence O'Donnell was not getting his contract renewed and we all called and emailed to support his renewal, I suggested that if someone had to go, it should be Greta. I told them I would never watch her show. So I'd like to believe I deserve some credit for both getting Lawrence renewed and getting Greta gone!

  19. I had a lifetime's worth of VanSusteren and the weird way her mouth movements didn't match her speech, 22 long years ago when she was doing commentary every day on CNN during the Simpson criminal trial.

    Adios, and good luck toots.

The one good thing about Hugh Hewitt is that he is soooooooo dull an insomniac can actually listen to him for a bit and easily get a good night's sleep. As for Megyn Kelly...shame on you MSNBC for putting this unkind and self-obsessed woman on the air just because she's attractive.

Megyn Kelly and Greta are NOT journalists in any way, shape, or form. They are attorney entertainers. I don't know anything about Hewitt. He may fit in there as well. Rachel Maddow is the only person on TV news who has credentials, very impressive credentials, in public policy. She is also the only one who posts links for her sources so we can fact-check her. The info-tainers masquerading as journalists cannot shine a light to Rachel Maddow.
