John Oliver challenges Donald Trump's ability to keep his promise to bring back coal jobs and it is glorious.

Courtesy of the LA Times:

Setting aside the "fact that [coal] is environmentally catastrophic," Oliver argued that Trump is less concerned with helping coal miners than in bolstering the coal industry -- two groups whose interests do not always align. With assistance from a giant talking squirrel, naturally, he focused on "the divide that can exist between a coal company’s interests and those of its workers."

Oliver conceded that while coal jobs declined under President Obama, it was merely the continuation of a decades-long decline caused by a number of factors, including declining use and mechanization.

These jobs have been disappearing "at roughly the same rate as careers in the zeppelin industry and babies named Adolf."

Oliver has done some amazing segments on The Last Word, but I have to say that this was one of his very best.

Made even more so by the fact that he was threatened with a lawsuit by coal mining CEP Bob Murray telling him not to air it.

Once again Oliver delivers solid journalism interwoven with genuinely funny jokes a to tell a complicated story in an interesting and entertaining manner.

Excellent job and I cannot recommend it enough.

I live in coal country, the Powder River Basin, which supplies the majority of our country's coal. The main reason for the decline in the demand for coal is natural gas. It's cheaper. No big conspiracy by the EPA or Obama. Simple economics.

And there you have it. What part of this do not people understand?? But NO, it has to be out it always has been for the idiot GOP.

President Obama said "jobs!" like he did infrastructure because he KNEW yet, again, oh HELL no, can't be doing that either. Black man WINS!

So we're stuck with the anus, and the only part of "drill, baby, drill," is how wsshed up Palin is thankful hers is sleeping in another room while Bristol on the phone, "DOH's good Mom, I have NEVER been so happy!"

      GOOD LORD.

This suit is scarier than Trump’s tweets.

Cooper burns Sean Spicer with side-splitting mash-up of him repeating ‘I’ve not asked the president about that’

    Slate -
The Latest Fireable Offense Trump apologists have come up with a new illogical rationale for the Comey termination.

Last month, when President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, conservatives parroted the White House cover story: that Trump had terminated Comey based on the recommendations of Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. That story soon collapsed, leaving Trump’s apologists scrambling for other excuses. In the last week or so, some of them have settled on a new theory. They accept that Trump fired Comey because of the FBI’s Russia investigation. But Trump wasn’t trying to stop the investigation, they insist. He was just frustrated that Comey wouldn’t tell the public the truth: that Trump wasn’t personally under investigation....

The clips of Murray (I think that's how his name is spelled) blatantly lying about President Obama in repeated visits to Fox News was a kind of revelation to me about the depth of Fox News' ability to brainwash its audience. Fox' viewers are not the kind of people who also read newspapers like the NYT, Boston Globe, Phila. Inquirer or Washington Post or print magazines like The New Yorker or The Atlantic or Newsweek. They watch Fox News and only Fox News. There is not one legitimate journalist working for that cable company. They are all part of a national GOP brainwashing scheme.
