So what about that bizarre televised cabinet meeting today where each member took time to kiss Trump's ass publicly?

Courtesy of CNBC:

Typically, a president's initial comments mark the end of on-camera coverage of White House Cabinet meetings, with administration aides then escorting members of the small press "pool" out of the room. But Trump invited reporters to remain as he called on his senior-most advisers to "go around, name your position" and say a few words about the administration's work.

"Start with Mike," Trump said, referring to his vice president. Mike Pence, whom Trump kept in the dark for two weeks after learning that then-National Security Adviser Michael Flynn had given the vice president false information earlier this year, responded by saying that serving as Trump's number two is "the greatest privilege of my life."

"An honor to be here," said Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who recently offered his resignation amid strains over the Russia investigation.

"My hat is off to you," said Energy Secretary Rick Perry, referring to the president's explanation of his decision to abandon a global climate change agreement.

"We thank you for the opportunity and blessing you've given us to serve your agenda and the American people," said Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, the subject of recent reports that Trump may fire him.

Okay seriously, WTF?

It's like Trump has gathered together a cabinet of Stepford wives who have been programmed to only deliver up compliments to their dear leader.

That creeped me out so bad it gave me chills.

Senator Chuck Schumer decided to find the humor in the event.
Yeah would be a lot funnier if this were not the fucking reality in the White House.

"A Wyoming mayor’s decision to remove portraits of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence from the town hall and replace them with a picture of a Native American chief has some community members up in arms.

Mayor Pete Muldoon of Jackson, Wyoming, directed town staff members to make the swap on June 5, saying there is no requirement to have a picture of the president displayed in the building.

“When the Town Of Jackson decides to honor such a divisive person, it is taking sides against some of its residents,” Muldoon said in the statement. “The Town Council has made no such decision, and until and unless it does, that kind of honor will not be bestowed.”"

"“We aren’t required to display signs of respect ― our respect is earned, not demanded,” Muldoon said. “Dictators like Joseph Stalin required their portraits to be displayed everywhere. Luckily, we do not live in a dictatorship.”"

Yellowstone just went back on my bucket list. Jackson and Yellowstone are in Teton county, which voted overwhelmingly for Hillary, even though Wyoming went for Trump.

"Councilman Jim Stanford said hanging portraits of the president and vice president in town hall isn’t a longstanding tradition, and only began in the early 2000s."

"“I’ve always found it a bit strange to have a portrait of the ‘supreme leader’ hanging in the town hall,” Stanford said. “We should be able to show up to a town meeting to work on town business without having to see the snarling mug of Donald Trump.”

It was Stanford who suggested replacing the Trump and Pence portraits with an image of Chief Washakie, the leader of the local Shoshone Tribe in the mid-1800s."

"Washakie, who remains a well-known figure among many Jackson residents, brokered peace treaties and settlement deals between his tribe and the U.S. government. He became the only Native American chief to be given a full military funeral upon his death in 1900.

“It’s a way to honor our native history,” Stanford said. “I think it’s an improvement.”"

The ass-kissing was so bad. So embarrassing. But many of the "Moments Ago" videos Trump has let out have done that same thing. He talks about how great he is and then sounds like he's so nice as he invites everyone to introduce themselves. It's just so amateur. It's a lot like how he holds up everything he signs and shows it as if it's a page in a picture book. Very cheesy. And how cool the Schumer parody was. Trump likes to call him a crybaby. Schumer was doing anything but crying...well, maybe he was laughing so hard that it brought a tear to his eye. I thought surely Trump would make a snarky remark today. Maybe he's still thinking about how to get his revenge.

What cracked me up, too, was the complaint that his Trade secretary hadn't been confirmed. He was all set on May 11. Today made over a month since he'd had his Cabinet position cleared.

I like to check up on Trump's daily schedule when he has these so-called big meetings. Trump was scheduled for that meeting at 11 AM Eastern. At 12:30 he was to have lunch with Pence. He'd need some time to get to lunch. The around-the-room praise stuff lasted a while. There really wasn't all that much time for a full Cabinet meeting that achieved much. And who knows if Trump even actually stayed. Often, he schedules these things for just a half-hour and doesn't even stay that long.

Rachel Maddow Explains How Jeff Sessions Is Doomed Ahead Of His Senate Testimony

Jeff Sessions is in big trouble, no matter what he tells the Senate Intelligence Committee.

...Maddow laid out the problem Sessions faces as he prepares to testify on Tuesday:

'In either case, though, Jeff Sessions has a continuing problem here. If the president, in fact, fired Comey because of his oversight of the Russia investigation, Attorney General Jeff Sessions should not have been involved in that, right? He was supposedly recused from that. So if you’re recused from the Trump-Russia investigation, under no understanding of a recusal would you allowed to fire the person running it, and still stay you’re recused, right? … Even he had fired him because of the Hillary Clinton email thing during the campaign … that, too, would be a problem for Jeff Sessions, because he also should have been recused from that. … Both the reason James Comey was fired – Russia – and the fake pretext they came up with for why James Comey was fired – Clinton emails – both of those are squarely in the bounds of Jeff Sessions’ recusal.

On a host of issues surrounding both the Trump administration’s ties to Russia and his questionable involvement in the firing of former FBI director James Comey, Jeff Sessions doesn’t seem to have a foot to stand on.

Not only should he face tough questions on his repeated lies about his secret meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak – which he repeatedly lied about both under oath and in writing – but he should also explain why he continues to involve himself in matters related to Russia and the 2016 election after having recused himself from these investigations.

    Ultimately,

  36. Congressman introduces the COVFEFE act and it is really kinda serious.

It's to record, document and archive TWEETS and other social media. Since Trump is using it to communicate policy directly through his twitter account, it should be preserved just like all other documents are *supposed* to be preserved.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/covfefe-act-congress_us_593eb814e4b0b13f2c6c9a1e?section=us_politics

"Trump’s social media feeds prompted Quigley, co-founder of the Congressional Transparency Caucus, to introduce the Communications Over Various Feeds Electronically for Engagement ― COVFEFE ― bill, which would amend the Presidential Records Act to include the term “social media” as documentary material.

“In order to maintain public trust in government, elected officials must answer for what they do and say; this includes 140-character tweets,” Quigley said in a statement. “President Trump’s frequent, unfiltered use of his personal Twitter account as a means of official communication is unprecedented. If the President is going to take to social media to make sudden public policy proclamations, we must ensure that these statements are documented and preserved for future reference. Tweets are powerful, and the President must be held accountable for every post.”"

The regulations provide that Mueller can “be disciplined or removed from office only by the personal action of the Attorney General” (again, Rosenstein here, because Sessions is recused) and only for “good cause.” The president, therefore, would have to direct Rosenstein to fire Mueller — or, somewhat more extravagantly, Trump could order the special-counsel regulations repealed and then fire Mueller himself.

What a bunch of clowns, I thought he said to “say a few words about the administration's work”. Or is that code for kiss my butt?

I would love to see Al question little donnie under oath!!!

Congress is due to leave for summer vacation in a couple of weeks, I bet he waits until they leave town to fire Mueller, thinking he can get away with it.
    ==================================

A sarcastic Al Franken ‘can’t imagine’ what Mueller would do to get fired from special prosecutor job

“He’s fired one, Comey, who was leading the investigation,” Franken said, referencing former FBI Director James Comey, who Trump fired in the midst of the Russia collusion investigation.

“Robert Mueller is widely-respected. I can’t imagine what he would do to legitimately open himself to being fired, frankly,” Franken said with a laugh.

“Doing his job, maybe,” Matthews retorted.

“Trump and the people around him are not acting like people who have nothing to hide,” Franken concluded.

We might recover from 4 years of this but I don't think America will survive in even our current weakened state for 8.

We've become a laughing stock amongst first and even second-world nations and have already lost our seat at the head of the International table after less than 6 months of Trump.

What will life be like after 4 years? Diminished but not unrecoverable, but if America votes this man in again in 2020, we have seriously dissolved the entire Union as the Founders imagined it.

I cannot imagine Trump being reelected - much less surviving his first term. I think someone will kill him or he'll be impeached.

He is very much dislikes by the majority throughout the country and world. Nothing is safe for him.

You notice he announced he isn't going to Britain because they don't like him over there. He sees the handwriting on the wall!

This is exactly what despots do...band over & kiss my brown ass. I'm sure Donald will continue with his failed presidency. This is so sickening it makes me want to vomit. Donald admires Putin so much he wants to turn us into a communist country because of course it will help his "Brand". The 1% just cannot get richer can they? That's what it's all about..fleecing the taxpayers to line their pockets.

"Trump then went around the table and called on each official to deliver brief remarks, beginning with Vice President Mike Pence. The bizarre scene that ensued resembled something out of North Korea, as each Cabinet official attempted to outdo one another with nice statements about their boss."

That pretty much says it all. He's a petty tyrant with delusions of godhood. He wants to be a dictator and has hissy fits and temper tantrums when he's crossed.

What president needs to have handlers and babysitters to shield him from negative press and take away his phone so he can't tweet himself into stupidity?

(The judge that denied his travel ban quoted his stupid tweet about it being a travel ban and Spicer saying that Trump's twitter account was official.)

This display of ass kissing from his cabinet is just another sign of hubris and dementia. He is UNFIT to lead. Even senile John McCain can see it.

    THE APPRENTICE - Washington DC

The whole thing reminded me of a scene directly from the boardroom of "The Apprentice." A group of supplicants all desperately trying to hold on to their spots on the show by effusively praising Trump -- each one trying to take it a step further than the last. And Trump in the middle of it all, totally and completely pleased with himself. (Reminder: Around that Cabinet table are hugely accomplished generals, billionaires and political people with long track records of success.)

What those contestants knew is the same thing Trump's Cabinet has now realized: Flattery will get you everywhere. Donald Trump's favorite topic of conversation is Donald Trump. The best way to talk about Donald Trump, if you want to keep working for Donald Trump, is to praise Donald Trump. The more over-the-top, the better

That's exactly what it is. A fake scene from his fake television show. Trump has no idea how to run a real business so there's no way he would know how to run the federal government! He plays people on his White House staff against one another just waiting for one or another to go public so he can accuse them of "leaking" and fire them. And charge them with some kind of crime against him personally, I guess.

The absolutely best part of that was Schumer's satire. He and his staff must have had so much fun; their laughter showed it clearly! Even people who are so closely involved in what Trump and his GOP are doing to the country have to have fun once in a while. On behalf of the sentient American people, thank you, Sen. Schemer and your staff.
