Visibly angry John McCain states that American leadership was better under President Obama than under Trump. And things just got real.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

Senator John McCain, a prominent Republican voice on foreign policy, was visibly irked when asked by the Guardian what message Trump had sent to the United Kingdom, one of America’s most enduring allies.

“What do you think the message is? The message is that America doesn’t want to lead,” McCain said, while adding of the rest of the world: “They are not sure of American leadership, whether it be in Siberia or whether it be in Antarctica.”

Asked if America’s standing on the global stage was better under Barack Obama, McCain, a fervent critic of the previous administration’s foreign policy, responded: “As far as American leadership is concerned, yes.”

Well first off this is perhaps the most obvious statement I have heard in weeks.

But secondly this clearly indicates that establishment Republicans are becoming too embarrassed by Trump's shenanigans to even bother to try and defend him in the media anymore.

Their most recent defense has been the whole "He's new, and doesn't know any better" defense which is not even good enough to get you out of a speeding ticket much less excuse the kind of missteps that Trump keeps making.

I have a feeling that soon a lot of older Republicans will join McCain and start to take off the gloves when responding to questions about Trump.

I can hardly wait to see the Twitter tantrum THAT inspires.

Don't get too excited, this may mean that Cindy McCain did not get the government job she wanted.

Cindy is filthy rich...worth $100 million at least. Old John is the "poor" one who needed the government job way back when. Being the wife of a U.S. Senator does have its status though.

John knows he is at the end of his long career. Also, too, he understands that the GOP will be trashed in the 2018 elections if they don't soon stand up to Trump. It appears he's willing to lead the attack.

"He's new, and doesn't know any better" defense
    ===================
First, ignorance is never a defense. Second, they had the chance to have people come in and train them on ethics and protocols etc. Little donnie said NO. So again he brought this on himself.

Besides, as a businessperson you would think he has some idea about chain of command etc. It just illustrates once again what a crappy businessman he really is.

McCain has always been easily dismissible as a "maverick" and now more so because of his bizarre line of questioning at the Comey hearing. I don't think this is news.

But, I read something (Huffpost?) the other day that McCain has something like 75,000 miles of travel trying to do damage control with US foreign policy. And he is just plain exhausted trying to put people and governments at ease despite Trump's craziness.

      Sorry, Chicago Times

Yeah, McCain *talks* a good game but when there is an opportunity to act he falls in line with the rest of his party. He's as big a traitor as the rest of them. It's always party before country with these guys no matter what the consequences. Fuck 'em all to hell.

That's been his problem for a long time now. Away from his GOP colleagues, he can sometimes sound rational and almost moderate. With them, he's just "one of the boys," voting against the best interests of the American people at every opportunity.

This old senile ass will walk back his comment by tomorrow.

  10. Would have been a lot more effective if McCain hadn't been so senile at the Comey hearings. This just means his own party will say he has dementia and doesn't know what he is talking about, then point to those questions at the Comey hearing.

McCain is no longer relevant. His influence went out the window with that Alzheimer's line of questioning.

So, the song when President Obama was elected was: "He has no gov't experience" (despite being a senator) "He shouldn't be there!" Of course when Trump gets elected, the tune changes.

He's getting nastier as he's aging although I do appreciate his going after Trump.

Never have forgiven the old fart for picking the idiot Sarah Palin as his running mate. It was a horrible decision on his part and they lost the race, thank God!

Turned out too that President Obama was a God send to America and still is to this day. Cannot say the same for McCain, Trump, Ryan, etc. in the U.S. Congress! What a deplorable bunch!

Right...I wish he had been somewhat cogent. We actually now have confirmation that McCain must retire ASAP. True to form, however, he went out with a snarl. I have always thought him to be on the less intelligent end of the spectrum. Has he really ever contributed much of anything to the senate?

My answer would be NO, 11:18 AM. When he dies, they'll tout him as some patriot hero when a look at his life proves anything but. I've always thought he never recovered from 2000 when Dubya was chosen over him, as if it was owed to him. Too bad so sad, Johnny boy.

Then we have the ultimate: Introduction of the TWIT as a viable running mate '08. That will always be his legacy!

  16. We can only hope. So far McCain has voted for everything the party and the president want. It has only been hot air coming out of him. Maybe he'll grow a pair and actually do something positive for the people instead of the wealthy. Maybe any of them will.

My friend, an ardent Trump supporter, is beginning to have doubts. They are starting to see but not quite ready to admit their mistake. His supporters in the very red state of Tennessee are starting to wake up. As soon as a few Republican "leaders" speak up it's all over. McCain is a start.

I think you have unreasonable expectations about republicans. Do not forget they selected a reality TV star to be their candidate and then they elected him. They have no moral compass and really could care less about this country.

  20. I agree with all the others who called bullshit on McShame and his "all talk, no action" MOA. He's just as corrupt and self serving as the entire republican leeches in the house and senate. What I saw at that cabinet hearing today made me want to puke! Are we still in America or was that cabinet hearing in North Korea? WTF?! I have absolutely NO faith in any republican to do one goddamn thing to stop the orange monster and his creepy fucking kids from destroying our govt and international reputation.

When I first heard McShame speak out against cheeto I had a sense of real hope. Damn if he didn't prove once again (and again and again) what a useless corrupt, do nothing POS he is and always will be.
