Before that meeting with the attorney Donald Trump Jr. received an email stating that the information came from the Russian government which was trying to help his dad get elected.

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Before arranging a meeting with a Kremlin-connected Russian lawyer he believed would offer him compromising information about Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump Jr. was informed in an email that the material was part of a Russian government effort to aid his father’s candidacy, according to three people with knowledge of the email.

The email to the younger Mr. Trump was sent by Rob Goldstone, a publicist and former British tabloid reporter who helped broker the June 2016 meeting. In a statement on Sunday, Mr. Trump acknowledged that he was interested in receiving damaging information about Mrs. Clinton, but gave no indication that he thought the lawyer might have been a Kremlin proxy.

Mr. Goldstone’s message, as described to The New York Times by the three people, indicates that the Russian government was the source of the potentially damaging information. It does not elaborate on the wider effort by Moscow to help the Trump campaign.

There is no evidence to suggest that the promised damaging information was related to Russian government computer hacking that led to the release of thousands of Democratic National Committee emails. The meeting took place less than a week before it was widely reported that Russian hackers had infiltrated the committee’s servers.

But the email is likely to be of keen interest to the Justice Department and congressional investigators, who are examining whether any of President Trump’s associates colluded with the Russian government to disrupt last year’s election. American intelligence agencies have determined that the Russian government tried to sway the election in favor of Mr. Trump.

Okay the key phrase here is "before it was widely reported." However it WAS already out there that the DNC was hacked, and in May Crowdstrike had already identified the Russians as the hackers.

Political campaigns are far more focused on this kind of thing than the average American, and that is just setting aside the possibility that the Russians had not already communicated to Trump folks that they had information from those hacks that could help them win.

It was also noted on one of the cable news shows I watched that this meeting seemed to be the catalyst for the hacked information being dumped on the internet.

Only six days later Guccifer 2.0, who has now been identified as a Russian operative, takes credit for the hack and starts dumping internal DNC documents.

And they are followed by Wikileaks which dumps a bunch of hacked DNC info on July 22.

On the 27th Trump senior says this:

“I will tell you this, Russia: If you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump said at a news conference. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

Things then escalated from there.

Of course Trump supporters and Right Wing news outlets are downplaying this as aggressively as possible, with Junior's attorney claiming that it's all much ado about nothing:

“The meeting lasted about 20-30 minutes, and nothing came of it. His father knew nothing about it. The bottom line is that Don, Jr. did nothing wrong.”

Says the man paid to proclaim his client's innocence despite any evidence to the contrary.

The outside attorneys for Trump Sr. are even trying to suggest that this whole meeting was a Democratic plot.
I don't even know what to say to that.

The key points here are that Don Jr. KNEW that he was taking this meeting with hopes of receiving damaging information about Hillary Clinton obtained by the Russian government, that was now working to help his father get elected, while there was information circulating out there that the Russians had hacked the DNC.

And he took his father's campaign manager and campaign advisor/son-in-law along for the ride.

And THAT is the clearest evidence of collusion that we have seen thus far.

By the way this is a picture of the guy who set up this meeting on the day after the election.
Take from that what you will.

Shame on former Gov Michael Dale Huckabee.

Why doesn't he tell his daughter Sarah Huckabee Sanders to just quit? The Trumps are making a damn fool of her and that family is not worth it?

He is also a minister. Doesn't it pains him to watch the Trumps make a fool out of his daughter?

Let's say for talking purposes Vladimir Putin himself called Trump Jr to give him dirt on Hillary Clinton, the smart thing to do is call the FBI and not attend the meeting with Jared and Manafort and then complain the information Putin had was not worth the meeting and on top of that not disclosing the meeting or contact on their secret clearance paperwork.

How did all this get into the public domain? You would think that there are Trump loyalists that want Junior out of the picture or willing to render him neutered.

New York magazine has a great big profile on President Steve Bannon and his comeback after his near-political-death experience back in April, when he reportedly considered rage-quitting after being shitcanned from the National Security Council. It’s by Joshua Green, excerpted from his book Devil’s Bargain: Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, and the Storming of the Presidency, due out later this month, and it’s worth the time to read in full (plus, looks like we need to order us a book to review). Something is going on. POTUS calling some kind of emergency meeting.

    https://twitter.com/RoguePOTUSStaff/status/884736112421371904

Is Russia flipping? Natalia V says campaign approached her, begging for help. POTUS calls meeting of Russia crisis team.

    https://twitter.com/RoguePOTUSStaff/status/884737717707448320

Putin fires a shot across the President's bow.

    Is Russia Flipping the Script?

Just days after Donald Trump Jr. accused Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya of approaching him with an offer to assist the campaign with damaging information about Hilary Clinton the Kremlin connected agent claims that the reverse was actually true. In her version of events the campaign approached her requesting the meeting, and paints an image where Don Jr. desperately begs for Russian intelligence to help his father's campaign. As surprising as this new development may be on its face, it's ten times more telling when viewed within its full context. At first look this appears like Putin's intelligence machine has taken a clear shot across the President's bow.

The first peculiarity we should notice is that Natalia V. claims to have been approached by the campaign to request the meeting, however that's not true. Don't take our word for it. Rob Goldstone has already come forth and acknowledged that he was the individual who set up the meeting on request of Azerbaijani recording artist Emin Agalarov (which is consistent with Don Jr's account), and the NYT has further reported on the email Goldstone sent to Don Jr. explaining that the Russian government wanted to assist the campaign. Natalia V is lying about who requested the meeting for no readily apparent reason.

The story originally presented by Don Jr. was that Natalia V wanted to talk about adoption laws. This is the Russian created cover story. Natalia V. is known for her work in this arena and nothing unusual would be seen in this explanation. In fact, Natalia V. still maintains that she used the opportunity of this meeting to lobby against the US sanctions related to current international adoption policies between the two countries. If Natalia V. wanted to deny being a Kremlin operative nothing is served by lying about who requested the meeting, even if she wanted to deny the pretense used to lure Don Jr. into meeting. There is only one thing accomplished in this lie. This isn't a strictly defensive lie to protect her and the Kremlin's interests. This is an offensive maneuver.

When the President feels like he's been attacked he reacts with a certain violent gusto, rapidly scrambling into a frenzy while summoning his closest agents in a spectacle reminiscent of the Skeksis gathering for the Great Conjunction to receive immortality and everlasting power. That scene is playing out once again this morning, but with a healthy dose of desperation that has been frequently observed in his Presidency so far as he attempts to cope with being outside of his own element. More "family business". The President is not taking Ms. Veselnitskaya's story very well.

While it might be tempting to imagine the President is suddenly a target of the same Russian machine that he thought was an ace up his sleeve, this appears more like a warning shot.

... And while Secretary Tillerson has been tight lipped about the recent G20 meeting between Presidents Trump and Putin we know understand that he feels President Trump's performance was a somewhat embarrassing mix between clumsy attempts at peacocking and obtusely misreading Putin's refined reserve as weakness. It appears that an unimpressed Putin is sending a signal about who's in charge. Comply, or be destroyed.

2016, on June 9th was the Secret Service in charge of security at Trump Tower? Was Trump security involved? Donald Trump Sr. was there. Did they vet and okay the Foreign National lawyer going to a meeting with the campaign guy, Manafort? Also Kushner and Jr?

If Trump security was involved, Trump would certainly fire the idiots. Unless he is okay with their part of this.

The former tabloid reporter who helped set up the June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Kremlin-linked attorney checked in to that same meeting on Facebook.

Rob Goldstone, a publicist and former British tabloid reporter, sent an email during the presidential campaign notifying the Republican candidate’s son that the Russian government was the source of damaging information about Hillary Clinton, reported the New York Times.

Trump Jr. met with Russian attorney Natalya Veselnitskaya along with brother-in-law Jared Kushner and then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort on June 9, 2016.

The president’s son has said Veselnitskaya did not provide the promised information but instead complained about a U.S. law imposing sanctions on human rights abusers she represented.

Goldstone said he set up the meeting at the request of a Moscow-based client, singer-songwriter-businessman Emin Agalarov, and he checked in for the meeting at Trump Tower on his personal Facebook page — which remained public as the Times broke developments in the story three days in a row.

A post on his Instagram account shows Goldstone wearing a shirt that says “Russia” the day after President Donald Trump’s election.

Agalarov and his father, Aras, Agalarov, are real estate developers with close ties to Russian president Vladimir Putin, and the pair were chosen by Donald Trump to host the 2013 Miss Universe pageant he owed at the time.

Trump and the Agalarovs discussed building a tower together in Moscow, and the now-president appeared in one of Emin Agalarov’s music videos.

Ex-Obama aide: White House leaks look like they are throwing Trump Jr. to the wolves to save Jared Kushner

Appearing on MSNBC Monday night, a former aide to President Barack Obama questioned the way leaks about Donald Trump Jr. meeting with Russians before the election were being doled out and speculated it was to make the president’s son the scapegoat and draw attention away from Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner.

Referring to the latest bombshell about Donald Trump Jr., “Last Word” host Lawrence O’Donnell asked former Obama official Ron Klain if it looked to him like the White House would prefer Trump Jr. be the one who investigators are looking at.

‘Who’s trying to get Jared out of the way?’: Morning Joe hints Steve Bannon is leaking Don Jr bombshells
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough hinted that White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is the source of a series of bombshell New York Times reports linking Donald Trump Jr. to Russian efforts to interfere with the election.

The Times has broken stories three days in a row about Trump Jr. meeting —
along with Jared Kushner and Paul Manafort — with a Russia attorney who promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton, and apparently in exchange for lifting sanctions on her clients for human rights violations.

“This does look like it’s coming from the inside,” Scarborough said, repeating his claim from Monday morning. “I don’t know — who is that? Who is leaking all this from the inside? Who’s trying to get Don Jr. and Jared Kushner out of the way?”

Scarborough seemed to suggest Bannon — who has reportedly clashed with Kushner in behind-the-scenes power struggles — had been dribbling leaks about the president’s son-in-law and senior adviser, and former FBI agent Clint Watts agreed.

Trump advisers sought alternative plans for Afghanistan from military contractors. Blackwater Worldwide founder Erik Prince and DynCorp owner Stephen Feinberg have floated proposals to use contractors instead of U.S. military forces in Afghanistan. According to the Times report, they have presented their alternatives to the Pentagon’s plan to send thousands more troops to Afghanistan to chief strategist Stephen Bannon and senior adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner. Bannon reportedly sought a meeting this weekend with Defense Secretary James Mattis at the Pentagon in hopes of discussing the outside ideas. 7/10/17

Why We Released The Audio Of Trump’s Private Fundraiser

The public deserved to hear it.

...We released this recording for several reasons. First, it offers more insight into the unusual (some might say “aberrant”) personality of the man who occupies the Oval Office. Secondly, as I laid out in my Intercept piece, the president’s remarks have significant political and diplomatic implications.

Breaking Down The Don Jr Emails Line-by-Line: It's Collusion

Whoa. Donald Trump Jr broke a well known rule - if you may be guilty of a major crime, don't post evidence against yourself ON SOCIAL MEDIA.

I cannot even imagine what his lawyer is doing right now. Quitting, possibly?

Junior just posted these 2 tweets, containing an email chain which he (stupidly) thinks exonerates him. Derp, it does not. Let's break it down.

Actually, now it turns out that Priebus, at that time the RNC chair, went to that meeting, too.
If that is really the case, then that means that the GOP is/was in cahoots with the Russians all along, and that again, is why they are doing NOTHING to honestly investigate and prosecute this issue.

The entire Trump family has been untouchable for years thanks to high-price lawyers who threaten and destroy anyone who dares to cross them.

There are many immoral and illegal things you can get away with in private business if you have enough money and power. However, they are no longer in private business so there are very different rules and a LOT more public scrutiny. They continue to behave as if the United States is a subsidiary of the Trump empire, and they will never be held responsible for their actions.

They surround themselves with bootlickers and won't listen to anyone who DOES have some experience and knowledge. They're also proving themselves every day to be downright stupid so they will continue making flagrant mistakes until they cross a line that no Republican can excuse.

'I can do anything I want with no consequences because my last name is Trump' is not going to work for much longer.

Is it possible that the guy in the photo is the person Trump described: a 400 pound guy in his bed who could be a leaker?
    Just wondering.

😠 “If you had a contact with Russia, tell the special counsel about it! Don’t wait until the New York Times figures it out!” an exasperated Gowdy

😠 "Someone needs to get everyone in a room and say, from the time you saw 'Dr. Zhivago' until the moment you drank vodka with a guy named Boris, you list every single contact with Russia," Gowdy said, referring to the 1965 movie.

Gowdy fumes at Trump administration over latest Russia controversy

    By RACHAEL BADE
    07/11/2017 08:16 PM EDT

House Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy lashed out at the Trump administration Tuesday over the “drip, drip” in the ongoing Russia controversy, sarcastically suggesting that officials get checked for amnesia about any contacts with Russia.

The South Carolina Republican first appeared on Fox News Tuesday night expressing concerns about email traffic showing that Donald Trump Jr. was not only aware that the Russian government was gathering intelligence on Hillary Clinton to help his father’s election, but that he also knowingly met with a Kremlin-backed lawyer claiming to want to share incriminating documents with the Trump campaign....

  37. Junior released all of the e-mails ahead of the NYT and they confirm everything.

Junior may be looking at treason rather than just collusion.

Maybe that's why he hired himself a MOB LAWYER to defend himself.
