If Donnie Junior didn't do anything wrong in that meeting with the Russians, then why did the Trump campaign start paying his lawyers two weeks before he was forced to reveal those emails?

I'm fucked.
Courtesy of The Daily Beast:

About two weeks before the release of emails showing Donald Trump Jr. seeking opposition research from attorneys representing the Russian government, his father’s reelection campaign began paying the law firm now representing Trump Jr. in the ensuing political and legal fallout.

A new filing with the Federal Election Commission shows that President Trump’s reelection campaign paid $50,000 to the law offices of Alan Futerfas on June 26. That was around the time, Yahoo News reports, that the president’s legal team learned of a June 2016 email exchange in which Trump Jr., through an associate, solicited damaging information about 2016 election rival Hillary Clinton.

When the New York Times revealed the email, and the meeting it set up, last week, Trump Jr. hired Futerfas, who is best known for representing four of New York’s major Italian mob families. The announcement of the hire came not from the Trump campaign but from the president’s company, where Trump Jr. remains a trustee.

Okay here's the thing, if the Trump campaign is paying these lawyers that essentially means that this meeting was sanctioned by the campaign.

Right?

And doesn't THAT also now mean that the entire campaign is complicit in the collusion as well?

Sure seems that way.

This also gives more evidence that Trump was lying about not knowing this meeting happened until it was reported last week. Hard to imagine these payments went out and Trump did not know about them.

Damn this thing just gets more scandalous every day.

    sanctioned by the campaign....

Was it the campaign's security that was protecting Trump Tower on 6/9/17?

One butt chin guy. Yeah, they knew he had done wrong and they gathered around the table and came up with the plan.
Now, they know how fickle the average American person is and how if they milk this thing with more disinformation that soon this will wash over.
Funny tho, how they weren't going to let anything Hillary supposedly did go, and how they harangued Obama for the slightest anything he did. Hypocrites to the max, and very dishonest humans. They need to go before Putin shows up with his little red suitcase and moves into the White House. Oh, and notice now, how delightful Putin is to the Republicans. What that means is that American Republicans have wafted over to Russian values. The Russians probably orchestrated this because it seems that Putin does nothing without purpose.

The fact that Jr hired a lawyer whose specialty is litigating for mob families speaks volumes.

    2. They made it sound like he hired the mob lawyer recently because of the Times article.

But now it looks like the Campaign had the mob lawyer in retainer weeks before the meeting.

NO one can convince me Sr. didn't know everything about this meeting.

Keith Olbermann says it's only after this meeting that Trump is finally using the language "33,000" missing e-mails. No one can convince me he just pulled that number out of a hat.

Not only that but the FEC document that revealed the down payment to the lawyer also revealed that the Trump family company gave almost one million dollars worth of "legal consulting" to Trump's 2020 campaign-- this is a brand new grifting line item for Donald J. Trump to take money from Americans and put it into his own pocket.

  9. In true weasel lying piece of shit fashion, Trump's lawyer is now throwing the Secret Service under the bus. As in, if the Russians weren't supposed to meet with Jr. the Secret Service should have stopped them.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/in-interview-trumps-lawyer-misrepresents-role-of-secret-service_us_596bacf6e4b03389bb183cb8?section=us_politics

"In his interview with ABC White House reporter Jon Karl on Saturday, Sekulow, a longtime Trump ally and a member of his personal legal team, asserted that if Veselnitskaya and Akhmetshin were such concerning figures, the Secret Service should have prevented them from entering Trump Tower. Sekulow made several misleading statements, according to current and former Secret Service officials who spoke to HuffPost."

Kinda reminds me of "Nobody told me I shouldn't shave the kitty.....so I did."

"Trump’s legal team and surrogates have been using a range of excuses to push back on the controversy surrounding the meeting, claiming it wasn’t illegal for Trump Jr. to have accepted it; that any campaign, regardless of party, would have accepted such a meeting; or that nothing of note came out of the meeting, meaning that it shouldn’t be a matter of interest to the press or public.

Some pundits and reporters have speculated that Sekulow shouldn’t even have made the assertion about the Secret Service’s role because Trump Jr.’s meeting took place on June 9, 2016 ― at that point, only his father had a Secret Service protective detail. "

"Even though Trump Jr. has his own Secret Service protective detail now (as do all of the Trump children and grandchildren), people he met with were not screened for counterintelligence purposes."

    I'll bet they are NOW.

"Despite Sekulow’s assurance, there is growing information to the contrary indicating that Trump may have known more than he let on:

Trump’s 2020 presidential campaign committee paid Alan Futerfas, Donald Trump, Jr.’s personal defense lawyer, a $50,000 retainer on June 27. That payment happened more than a week before The New York Times published its story on July 8.

The president admitted to reporters on July 12 that he may have actually heard about the campaign meeting with Veselnitskaya earlier. “In fact maybe it was mentioned at some point,” Trump said, according to the White House pool report. But he insisted he didn’t know the purpose of the meeting was to get dirt on Clinton; he said he believed it was about Veselnitskaya’s push to overturn a U.S. law sanctioning Russian officials for human rights abuses. Russian President Vladimir Putin retaliated to the sanctions by putting a stop to American adoptions of children from the country.

Trump’s personal legal team also learned about the email promising Trump Jr. opposition research on Clinton more than three weeks ago, according to Yahoo News. ”[T]he information that Trump’s lawyers were told about the emails in June raises questions about why they would not have immediately informed the president,” wrote Yahoo News reporter Michael Isikoff.

Trump also reportedly signed off on Trump Jr.‘s statement in response to The New York Times’ July 8 story revealing the meeting. In an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Sekulow didn’t deny that the president signed off on the statement but insisted he wasn’t involved in writing it. "

Why would the Trumps spend their own money for lawyers when the meeting was for his campaign? I would not read into this that the Trumps do not have 50k between them. Trump does have millions raised already for his reelection.

Our POS POTUS' slimy attorney was on all of today's morning talk shows. For some reason he decided to now blame the Secret Service for allowing Donnie's Jr. to meet wth the Russian's even though that is not their job and Donnie Jr. was not being protected by the USSS at the time of his meeting.

So let's get this straight. Trump doesn't believe or respect any of the US Intelligence Agencies, or the FBI, and now the Secret Service? How dumb can this guy be? I hope all of the brave men and women that work for these US Agencies and are sworn to uphold the Constitution, will now go after these weasels as payback for the trash talking and disrespect.

The Secret rejected Trump's lawyer's argument that they should have vetted the Russians that Trump Jr. was meeting, but they were in the building to protect Trump, which means that President Trump knew about the meeting.

...“Donald Trump, Jr. was not a protectee of the USSS in June 2016. Thus we would not have screened anyone he was meeting with at that time,” the statement said.

The Secret Service was in Trump Tower because that was where Trump was. Trump was in the building because he knew that his campaign team was meeting with the Russians. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out what Trump was doing there in the middle of the campaign, on the same day that he promised a major speech that would spill the dirt on Hillary Clinton.

After Trump's lawyer Jay Sekulow had claimed that the Secret Service should have stopped the Russians from meeting with the Trump campaign, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) called Sekulow dumb as a rock.

'Dear dumb as a rock @JaySekulow: Secret Service job is not to deter violations of Fed Election Campaign Act. That's the job of prosecutors.'

“This is not a drill”: reporters say there’s a flood of Donald Trump Russia news coming this week

Buckle up, because this week will be even bigger than the last week

    http://www.palmerreport.com/politics/not-drill-reporters-say-theres-flood-donald-trump-russia-news-coming-week/3893/

Donald Trump has spent the past two weeks expecting Donald Trump Jr. collusion tapes to surface

....Now we know what’s really been going on inside the Donald Trump team on these past two weeks, and why so few of its actions and decisions seemed to line up with the scandal that’s been playing out: this wasn’t even the Donald Trump Jr scandal they were expecting. It’s been sitting there in plain sight all along. But now that a key new piece has fallen into place, it’s become clear that there are Donald Trump Jr collusion tapes, and Trump expects them to surface soon.

For weeks I’ve been pointing back to a manic two-part tweet that Donald Trump posted on June 26th, in which he came out of nowhere and began denying the existence of “tapes” of Trump people “colluding” with Russia. Why was he suddenly denying the existence of tapes? What tapes? No one in the mainstream media was suggesting that there were collusion tapes. But now we know what Trump secretly did the very next day: he hired his son a lawyer.

One day after Trump tweeted about collusion tapes on June 26th, the Washington Post now says that he turned around and hired an attorney for Donald Trump Jr on June 27th (link). But when the New York Times story first began to break two weeks later about Junior’s collusion meeting, the Trump team’s response was to issue a partial denial. That means the Trump team didn’t know the Times had more coming and was going to end up making that denial look foolish. So this wasn’t even the Trump Jr. scandal that the Trump team was preparing for. This one caught them off guard. They’re preparing for something else, presumably coming from a different newspaper.

In hindsight, it’s fairly obvious that Donald Trump found out on June 26th that tapes of Donald Trump Jr colluding with Russia were going to surface. He began publicly denying it, because that’s what he always does, and he immediately got his son a lawyer because he knew how incriminating those tapes would be. Are they tapes of the meeting we know about? Are they tapes of another collusion meeting, or of a phone call? We don’t know. But Donald Trump found out on June 26th that his son is caught on tape colluding – and he tried to tell us that it’s going to hit the newswires before much longer.

Donald Trump tips off that there’s an even bigger Donald Trump Jr. scandal coming

Now it’s official: Donald Trump is only feigning a reelection campaign so he can fundraise money and use it to pay his own family’s legal bills in the Russia scandal. But that’s not even the biggest story here. It’s not just that Trump is using campaign money to pay for his son’s lawyer. It’s that he began doing so two weeks before it hit the fan. And that means he was preparing for a different, much larger Trump Jr. scandal. Let me explain.

During a discussion of President Donald Trump’s painfully awkward handshake with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump biographer and longtime observer David Cay Johnston noted that the president seems weak and unsteady on his feet.

“I’ve noted in recent weeks that he doesn’t seem as vigorous,” Johnston said. “He doesn’t seem as steady on his feet. When he’s walking with someone he’ll pause often to point out something or chat, but I also think he may be steadying himself so that’s something for us to watch out for.”
