John Oliver warns about the conservative take over of local TV news.

Courtesy of The Guardian:

John Oliver took a look at the Sinclair group on Sunday night, examining the conservative-leaning station’s ownership of many local news networks.

“Our main story tonight concerns the potential problems in corporate consolidation of local news,” Oliver began. “National cable news gets a lot of attention with their big budgets and their fancy graphics packages. Meanwhile, local news often has to do a lot more with a lot less.”

He went on to show clips of broadcaster Mark Hyman railing against “political correctness and multiculturalism”.

“Hyman is a commentator and former executive at Sinclair Broadcast Group, and Sinclair may be the most influential media company you’ve never heard of,” Oliver explained. “Not only are they the largest owner of local TV stations in the country, they could soon get even bigger,” referring to the company’s proposed $4bn acquisition of all Tribune Media stations.

Once again John Oliver has exposed an incredibly troubling problem that many of us did not even realize existed.

Like I said this is even more troubling than Fox News or Right Wing radio.

At least with those you can have the expectation that the news you are hearing is slanted and possibly even exaggerated for effect.

But your local news is supposed to be tailored to the needs of its viewers, not shaped by the odeology of its conservative overlords.

The Sinclair buy is nothing new. Xian cons have owned many tv stations in the mid west and Bible Belt. Hell, Mid West Television, highly Xian owned family runs the CBS affiliate in San Diego, Channel 8, and like four sister radio stations. Why would people rely on a local station to get national political news is beyond me. Deal with Sinclair the easy way... cancel your cable and satellite services, and stream news when an emergency occurs.

“apparently hadn’t seen something called the
    'Donald Trump Show'."

“It’s been remarkable actually to watch Chris Christie’s kind of fall from political grace, just over the past two years, as you mentioned, he was a presidential candidate and was known for his kind of huff talking $TYLE," “He was kind of the Donald Trump in terms of rhetoric before Donald Trump. I remember covering him at various stops throughout the campaign, particularly in New Hampshire, and he was lauded for his $TYLE.”When asked why the “Trump-$TYLE” worked for Trump but hasn’t for Christie, Burns said many in the GOP are asking the same question."
      An$wer>lOOK$ Mafia $tyle.

  6. We saw this coming back under dumbass dubya and his FCC chaired by Michael Powell-Colin Powell's brat. They changed the rules to allow radio stations and tv in the same market to be owned by the same conglomerates.

"It wasn’t until fairly recently that Democrats were turned into leftists and Republicans into rightists. These are terms of mutual abuse." in 1948, the Communist-tainted Progressive Party, which ran Henry Wallace in his ill-starred presidential bid—played a theme song whose refrain went: “It’s the same old merry-go-round / The donkeys go up and the elephants down.”

Says who? You are naive if you think this is new. I grew up in Orange County, CA which is also known as "John Birch Land." Walt Disney was one of the staunchest supporters. It has always been this way. Go to Santa Cruz, and it will be slanted to the other side. This is not new.

Harder and harder to watch ANY kind of news. What's the saying....my desire to be well-informed is currently at odds with my desire to remain sane.

Those billionaire conservatives just never give up. Why aren't they kept busy sitting in their counting rooms counting their money?

  12. Don't forget Trump's ex, Boris Epshtein, is now working for Sinclair as a political commentator. Has his own spot.

I looked up the Sinclair and Tribune Media stations and most are locals in red states but there are a few in blue states. Probably red areas of blue states. But worrying nonetheless.

This is much more dangerous than Fox News. Sinclair is much more insidious.

Well, we use to eat the shit up from T.V. Now we know.
Question everything folks, even on this here internet. If they are planting shit in your minds on tv and radio, internet is worst.
Don't believe it till you've seen it.

Don't feed the trolls!
It just goes directly to their thighs.
