7 charities so far have bailed on Mar-a-Lago.

Courtesy of The Hill:

Another charity has canceled an event planned at President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort, marking the seventh group to scrap fundraising events at the luxury Palm beach, Fla., club.

The Preservation Foundation of Palm Beach said on Facebook Saturday that it had pulled its annual dinner dance from Trump’s Palm Beach estate.

“Given the current environment surrounding Mar-a-Lago, we have made the decision to move our annual dinner dance,” the group wrote.

The local nonprofit is “dedicated to protecting and celebrating the unique architectural and cultural heritage of Palm Beach,” the organization said in the statement.

The local charity follows other major nonprofits such as The American Friends of Magen David, the American Cancer Society and the Cleveland Clinic in pulling out from the location.

The groups’ announcements all come as Trump faces massive backlash for saying “both sides” were to blame for violence at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville.

The thing that Trump cares the most about is his businesses.

I have to imagine that once Trump realizes that his stint in the White House is forever damaging his brand and his ability to make money that he will seriously consider trying to find some way to get the hell out.

Which by the way is the same prediction that Trump's ghostwriter on the "Art of the Deal" came up with as well:

"The circle is closing at blinding speed," Tony Schwartz, who CNN reports spent more than a year with Trump writing his 1987 memoir, tweeted August 16. "Trump is going to resign and declare victory before Mueller and congress leave him no choice."

Sadly that still leads us with a President Mike Pence.

But hey, at least the planet will no longer be in danger of exploding.

I have always thought that he would fake a major health crisis, such as a stroke, in order to quit. That would be fine by me. I'm not a fan of Mike Pence but he would be better than what we've got now.

Why top White House officials won't quit Trump

So why do the others stay? We talked to a half dozen senior administration officials, who range from dismayed but certain to stay, to disgusted and likely soon to leave. They all work closely with Trump and his senior team so, of course, wouldn't talk on the record. Instead, they agreed to let us distill their thinking/rationale:

"You have no idea how much crazy stuff we kill": The most common response centers on the urgent importance of having smart, sane people around Trump to fight his worst impulses. If they weren't there, they say, we would have a trade war with China, massive deportations, and a government shutdown to force construction of a Southern wall.
"General Mattis needs us": Many talk about their reluctance to bolt on their friends and colleagues who are fighting the good fight to force better Trump behavior/decisions. They rightly point out that together, they have learned how to ignore Trump's rhetoric and, at times, collectively steer him to more conventional policy responses.
"Trump's not as evil as portrayed": All of them talk up the president as more reasonable off Twitter and TV than on it. This gives them hope (though almost all increasingly say it's fleeting hope) he will listen to his better angels, or at least the pleas of Ivanka.
"We like the power": Well, no one comes out and say it this blatantly. But working in the White House, even this one, is intoxicating and ego-stroking. They have enormous say over regulations and rules, invites and implementation, government jobs and access to the Oval. They also know they are one step away from an even bigger job in government, so it's hard to just walk away.

ANY business or charity that continues to do business with any trump owned or branded business should be boycotted. Begging on 5th Ave seems appropriate for the Trump Crime Family. Or a 1 way ticket to Moscow.

I expect there is oppo research on Pence that will make him resign as well. He DID head the transition, was told directly about Flynn/Russia, and LIED about that to We The People.

I hope more people are aware of the rackets many of the charities and foundations with famous names use. It's not a new problem, it is a waste of money when the so called recipients are slighted. The benefits favor the already rich.

One big circle jerk: The McCain Institute’s Human Trafficking Program educates, raises awareness and implements innovative, action-based solutions to end modern slavery. Through collaborative partnerships, critical research and direct engagement with innovative programs, the Institute connects and convenes stakeholders to find strategies to combat human trafficking at local, state, national and international levels.

'So is John McCain associated with the McCain Institute in name only? Hardly. Not only was it his brainchild but it was launched with nearly $9 million in funds rolled over from his 2008 presidential-campaign fund. The McCains also launched a charitable trust to accept donations on its behalf. The McCain Institute staff and board are packed with John McCain’s previous political donors, allies, advisors, and campaign staff, while Cindy chairs the group’s Human Trafficking Advisory Council and serves as one of its most visible spokespeople.'

"Human trafficking" is the favorite go-to cause for GOP conservatives. I'm not sure they'll ever do anything about it, but they know that it will get sympathetic nods. Probably from some of the nasty people who take advantage of it. Why no legislative action to date by McCain on this favored issue of his?

  24. Hosting a charity event at Mar-a-Lagofuckyourself is a rip off. They suck up too high a percentage of the cost. There are plenty of other venues that would cut these organizations a break as a tax write-off to charity. Whereas the Trump organization probably doubles it's fees to suck up more money from the charity.

The disaster that is now the Trump name is just part of it.

Trump has made himself toxic, as I predicted he would. He has destroyed his names, which is his brand. It's all he has. Once that is gone, he has nothing. He's done it in record time too.

Personally, I think it's rather hypocritical of any preservation society to associate with the make that destroy the Bonwit Teller frescoes and gutted the historic D.C. Post office building.

How the Republican party quietly does the bidding of white supremacists
    Russ Feingold

Let us finally rip off the veneer that Trump’s affinity for white supremacy is distinct from the Republican agenda. It isn’t

The lesson from Charlottesville is not how dangerous the neo-Nazis are. It is the unmasking of the Republican party leadership. In the wake of last weekend’s horror and tragedy, let us finally, finally rip off the veneer that Trump’s affinity for white supremacy is distinct from the Republican agenda of voter suppression, renewed mass incarceration and the expulsion of immigrants.

There is a direct link between Trump’s comments this week and those policies, so where is the outrage about the latter? Where are the Republican leaders denouncing voter suppression as racist, un-American and dangerous? Where are the Republican leaders who are willing to call out the wink (and the direct endorsement) from President Trump to the white supremacists and acknowledge their own party’s record and stance on issues important to people of color as the real problem for our country?

Words mean nothing if the Republican agenda doesn’t change. Governors and state legislatures were so quick to embrace people of color in order to avoid the impression, they too share Trump’s supreme affinity for the white race. But if they don’t stand up for them they are not indirectly, but directly enabling the agenda of those same racists that Republican members were so quick to condemn via Twitter.

Gerrymandering, strict voter ID laws, felon disenfranchisement are all aimed at one outcome: a voting class that is predominantly white, and in turn majority Republican.

The white supremacist chant of, “you will not replace us,” could easily and accurately be the slogan for these Republican politicians. Their policies will achieve the same racial outcome as Jim Crow – the disenfranchisement and marginalization of people of color.
