Donald Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild even as Republicans vote to take a billion out of disaster relief money to pay for his border wall.

Courtesy of TPM:

President Donald Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild from Harvey-caused epic flooding, but his Republican allies in the House are looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance the president’s border wall.

The pending reduction to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster relief account is part of a massive spending bill that the House is scheduled to consider next week when lawmakers return from their August recess. The $876 million cut, which is included in the 1,305-page measure’s homeland security section, pays for roughly half the cost of Trump’s down payment on the U.S.-Mexico border wall that the president repeatedly promised Mexico would finance.

So here's the thing Texas, on the one hand you won't have to worry about all of those pesky Mexicans taking the jobs you don't want to do anyway, but on the other hand you will be submerged under water.

Hey, nothing's perfect.

However things may not be as dire as all that.

It seems sure that GOP leaders will move to reverse the disaster aid cut next week as floodwaters cover Houston, the nation’s fourth-largest city, and tens of thousands of Texans have sought refuge in shelters. There’s only $2.3 billion remaining in federal disaster coffer.

Poor Donald. Here is he all ready to finally achieve his xenophobic dream of keeping brown people out of America, and along comes some natural disaster, super sized by the climate change he refuses to believe in, to ruin the whole thing.

Oh well, surely those Mexicans were only kidding about not paying for it, right?

"White House acknowledges Trump lied about ‘witnessing first hand’ the devastation of Harvey
The best Trump could do was post an Instagram photo of him watching weather radar."

"“He met with a number of local officials who are eating, sleeping, breathing the Harvey disaster,” Sanders said. “He talked extensively with the governor, who certainly is right in the midst of every bit of this, as well as the mayors from several of the local towns that were hit hardest. And detailed briefing information throughout the day yesterday talking to a lot of the people on the ground — that certain is a firsthand account.”"<really?

The fuckin' orange idiot better reconsider that "wall" to keep those "illegals" out. Who will be hired for reconstruction post-Harvey? It sure as fuck won't be any beer-swillin' Trailer Bob or other such lazy white trumpkins!

One other thing - when reconstruction starts going full speed, and the price of lumber and plywood go through the roof, or supply dries up, remember who slapped a 24% tariff on Canadian lumber!

Trump caught in another of his continual lies! What a fucking disaster this idiot is and I can tell you that he does not represent me as the boy/man supposedly leading our country.

Impeachment is the only answer. Then we'd have Pence though and that wouldn't be good either. Both of them need to go down together! No more Republicans!

"We All Knew About the Trafficking"-The Untold Story of Trump Model Management (Part 1)

It makes more sense everyday how it was that Trump could have ever associated with a Palin. Their link is trafficking and the evangelical thing is a great cover.

Todd Palin is more infamous than Sarah for the trafficking but he could have never done it without the right wife.

They chose a son in law that would fit in their schemes but for some reason he had to high tail it far far away from Palin central on a dead lake in Alaska.

Before leaving Alaska, Dakota started a fake project about rescuing victims of trafficking. Of course, he could not keep his word or carry on his mission. Trafficking, human slave labor and sex was too close to home for him.

I don't blame him for not wanting to be the one to bust the in laws. But he should do something and not just run away. They must be locked up and it should not take that much longer.

Dakota puts in a lot of energy and work to get jobs for veterans, soldiers and spouses. Yet he does not say or do chit to get Track Palin ready to be ready for employment.

The same with the spouse. His spouse needs employment, legitimate employment for once, and he does nothing for that problem. All the while he has all the connections to take care of those issues.

Mrs. Bonnie Amos will do anything for Dakota and her thing is jobs and getting help for spouses. She can help his branding but to only help the lies of his brand is not the right thing to do.

It is outstanding how they leave Track and Bristol out of all their good work.

Dakota makes money by selling himself and products but he is not helping anyone but himself. He helps Trump because he wants more wars to fight. He helps Bristol and Track stay mentally sick and even suicidal. But he does nothing for good.

He is another fraud, supporting frauds, not at all honorable. There is no honor in the mix of offenders. The public needs to know the truth.

Stop supporting the people that are destroying America. They are traitors and when you support them you are a traitor.

Wake up to all these traitors. Stand up to them. It is not the time for silence. America is hurting, it could be fatal. Don't wait, right now.

You have some valid points, 11:15 AM. Just, don't overestimate Dakota Meyer's motives. He is a stupid, nonthinking sort and lazy. He may sign up for this or that project. He's out for the quick buck. The easy score. He's a celebrity now.

I don't think there is much evidence that MOH helped many veterans. During the Obama administration there were all sorts of projects to help veterans find work. Without personal business contacts, there's not a whole lot that MOH could have done on his own. He has shown that he has little motivation and he's not that intelligent. MOH, like Bristol, has opted for the life of a grifter.

Jared Kushner needs a billion dollars—and isn't picky about how he gets it

Jared Kushner and other members of his family real estate firm have twice been caught using Kushner’s closeness with Trump as a means of peddling $500,000 deals that come with an inside track to a US visa.

Now Bloomberg has made it clear why Kushner was willing to risk running afoul of regulators. He really needs the cash.

If you only knew how many Mexicans came and worked in New Orleans helping to clean up and rebuild. My neighbor across the street did that, met his wife there who had her citizenship already, now he works 60ish hours a week doing roofing in Louisiana heat, something very few Caucasians seem interested in doing. Last week their home caught fire and burned while they were away visiting in Mexico, the FD has yet to find a cause....could be all of the Trump signs in the area caught fire and burned it "accidentally".

  19. Obama photographer reminds us how presidents used to act during a disaster.

    The contrast is obvious.

Mike Pence looks more presidential. Which is a real worry. I think he's already running for 2020. Or possible lining up to take the 25th.

Apparently one idea being floated by the GOP (Wash. Post this morning) is taxing income going into retirement 401K plans before it is invested. Now it's taxed when money taken out - either while a person is still working or, automatically after during retirement from the age of 70.6). This would be one way the GOP could hide a bit of the enormous cost of this "non-tax-reform-but-very-real-tax-gift-to-the-richest-Americans." Fewer and fewer Americans have real pension plans and now they want to attack what is left that purports to be a way to help pay for retirement. Oh, and the worst of Republicans in Congress (including my MI Congressman - retired as some kind of general from the Marine Corps who doesn't believe in giving freebies to people) want to end Social Security too. After all, it was started by a Democratic president and Congress - in the 1930's. For that reason and because it really has helped all Americans, Republicans have always hated Social Security.
