Air Force Chaplain writes article claiming that Christian servicemen "serve Satan" by demonstrating respect for other religions.

Courtesy of Newsweek:

A U.S. Air Force chaplain who ministers to thousands of men and women at an Ohio base is asserting that Christians in the U.S. Armed Forces “serve Satan” and are “grossly in error” if they support service members' right to practice other faiths.

The Chaplin,  Captain Sonny Hernandez, wrote an article for a website called BarbWire.com, in which he condemned Christian service members for relying on the Constitution “and not Christ.”

Of  course American service men and women take an oath to uphold the Constitution, NOT the Bible.

But that did not seem to matter to this guy:

He wrote: “Counterfeit Christians in the Armed forces will appeal to the Constitution, and not Christ, and they have no local church home—which means they have no accountability for their souls (Heb. 13:17). This is why so many professing Christian service members will say: We ‘support everyone’s right’ to practice their faith regardless if they worship a god different from ours because the Constitution protects this right.”

Hernandez continued: “Christian service members who openly profess and support the rights of Muslims, Buddhists, and all other anti-Christian worldviews to practice their religions—because the language in the Constitution permits—are grossly in error, and deceived.”

Apparently there have been a number of complaints against Hernandez in the past but no real action has been taken as of yet.

However now he has come to the attention of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. And its founder Mikey Weinstein has a theory about what it going on:

"America’s military members look to the president for direction and inspiration," Weinstein said. "Trump’s statements and actions have fully endorsed and validated this unbridled tidal wave of fundamentalist Christian persecution, which is now more inextricably intertwined into the very fabric of our Department of Defense than ever before."

The organization says that the number of complaints they receive has doubled since Trump took office,  and that seems to reflect the increased racism and rejection of non-Christian religions that we have noticed all across the nation.

This is of course only the beginning. Things are definitely only going to get worse from here.

They may get worse but they'll eventually get better. Every atheist and agnostic that comes along will eventually push these stupid Christians out.

    Hey Gryph -

Would you kindly change the headline of this article? Dude is an Air Force chaplain, not Navy. As an ex-Naval person myself, it makes a difference. :)

Regarding Mikey Weinstein, he graduated from the Air Force Academy & has been busting their asses since graduation day regarding the encroaching zealotry and fanaticism in Colorado Springs. He's a real pit bull & is a tremendous resource for those in the military to have an outlet for pushing back against the very real threat of Christo-fascism in this country. I have no doubt their number of reported cases have doubled since the Cheeto Emperor parked his prodigious backside in the People's House.

That Captain should resign his commission!
As a 1970 grad from the Air Force Academy, I am really disturbed to read in recent years about the talibangeilists having such a growing presence at my Alma Mater.

This guy my have gotten away with this shit many times before, but once it hits Newsweek and national media attention, he's just screwed his career.

    It's not religion. It's tribalism.

So here we have another 'pastor' who has never read the Bible he totes around. Jesus was a Jew, not a Christian. The JEWS were his tribe, not white Americans. Nowhere does Jesus say stop believing in the god of the family you were born into. He invites the disciples to 'follow me,' but he does not threaten and harass those who did not join up. My God, he was kind, peaceful, and nothing like the evangelical property kooks stealing money from people. And I suspect he would not support our military,m or anyone else's, since he was a 'turn the other cheek' kind of guy. But hey, where's the money in that?

    1. What kind of "Christian" minister only quotes pieces of the Old Testament. It's like they never read the New Testament.

To become a minister you need to do post graduate work in the religion of your choice. Yet these yokels don't seem to have even a fundamental grasp of the Bible or the basic fundamental tenets of their particular cult.

Mialuppa, I agree with you. The whole point of Christianity is that the New Testament replaced the Old Testament. Too many twenty-first century (so-called) Christians don't understand that. I think the reason is that they want to control their followers rather than lead them.

There has been something badly amiss with the Air Force for quite a while now. I don't know if it has something to do with the fundamentalism prevalent in the city where the Air Force Academy is located or what. But it's the one arm of the US military that especially needs to understand the First Amendment of the Constitution, the one about freedom of religion and from religion. Our forefathers would be very ashamed.

It's my god or the highway. Bullies with a bible. They are counting on our guilt which we all have due to our upbringing.
I say, let's get rid of our guilt.
