Courtesy of Raw Story:
Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin campaigned for former Judge Roy Moore at a wall-less barn in Alabama Thursday evening.
“Judge Roy Moore was deplorable before it was cool to be deplorable!” Palin said of the insurgent Republican who was twice suspended as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court.
“I don’t think there’s a cooler nickname than ‘The 10 Commandments Judge,'” Palin noted, referencing the 2003 controversy that resulted in Moore being removed from office by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary. Moore was suspended as Chief Judge in 2016 and resigned in April while announcing he would be running in the special election.
“We voted for a big beautiful wall and not more amnesty deals,” Palin said.
And then there was this tortured logic.
“A vote for Judge Moore isn’t a vote against the president,” Palin claimed. “It is a vote for the people’s agenda that elected the president.”
That is kind of a hard case to make with Trump scheduled to come to Alabama on Saturday and stump for Moore's opponent Luther Strange.
My favorite part of this speech, and trust me it had no competition, was when Palin claimed that she "put her reputation on the line" to endorse Trump and support his policies.
Please, this woman, with help from her family, destroyed any positive reputation she may have had LONG ago.
It appears during this speech that Palin's argument is that Donald Trump has essentially been rendered impotent by "the swamp" and that the only way to preserve his vision is to go around him and elect candidates which he will not support in order to force him back into line.
That is a rather amazing development, as it seems the people who were the most energized by Trump's craziest campaign promises are simply incapable of believing they were played for fools or that after becoming president Trump learned that those things were impossible or ultimately hurtful to the country.
I think this is a glimpse into the insanity that Sarah Palin would have brought to the White House if by some batshit crazy miracle SHE had been elected president.
There's a thought to inspire nightmares.

ReplyDeleteTrump Names Sarah Palin Ambassador to Nambia
ReplyDeleteDonald J. Trump on Friday capped a busy week of diplomatic activity by naming the former Alaska governor Sarah Palin the United States Ambassador to Nambia.
By naming Palin to this diplomatic post, the United States has become the first nation in the world to formally recognize Nambia’s existence.
In a joint appearance with Trump at the White House, Palin acknowledged that she “didn’t know a lot about Nambia” but said that she was looking forward to receiving a comprehensive briefing on the nation’s history, culture, and customs from the Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos.
“Then it’s Nambia, here I come!” Palin exclaimed.
In a sign that Palin’s appointment was a popular move, a new poll shows that an overwhelming majority of Americans support her permanent relocation to Nambia.

Delete‘Insanity’: New ad pressures Murkowski, four other senators to oppose health bill
ReplyDelete...Community Catalyst Action Fund, which bills itself as a consumer health organization, is spending close to $200,000 on the ads targeting Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), John McCain (R-Ariz.), Rob Portman (R-Ohio), Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine), officials at the group told The Washington Post.
“There’s an old saying: the definition of insanity is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results,” says the narrator of the commercial. “Well, that’s what congressional leaders are doing right now — pushing another bad health care bill.”
Murkowski is seen by many Republicans as the most crucial senator in the current dynamic — one who could decide whether the effort succeeds or fails. She voted against the last repeal measure in July and has said she is seeking more data on how the current plan affects her state before she decides what to do.

Tens of millions of Americans could lose Obamacare tax credits because thousands of Alaskans won't
Delete...How much power? Let's consider Alaska, where Sen. Lisa Murkowski has refused to say with certainty how she'd vote (as is normally the case for her).
As written, Cassidy-Graham would cut health-care spending in Alaska by 2026 by some substantial amount: 8 percent according to the Kaiser Family Foundation or 11 percent per the consulting firm Avalere. Murkowski's vote is so important to the process that AARP, which opposes the bill, put together a special report looking only at the effect of the legislation on that state.

Study: New repeal bill would leave 21 million more without insurance
Delete...To estimate the effects on insurance coverage during these years, we consider the various ways in which states might respond to the options provided by the legislation, using prior CBO analyses to evaluate the likely coverage outcomes for each of four broad categories of states. We then make assumptions about how many states will take each broad policy approach.
Based on this analysis, we estimate that the Graham-Cassidy legislation would reduce the number of people with insurance coverage by around 21 million each year during the 2020 through 2026 period. This estimate likely understates the reductions in insurance coverage that would actually occur under the Graham-Cassidy legislation, particularly toward the beginning and end of the seven-year period, because it does not account for the challenges states will face in setting up new programs on the bill’s proposed timeline, the possibility that uncertainty about the program’s future will cause market turmoil toward the end of the seven-year period, or the bill’s Medicaid per capita cap and other non-expansion-related Medicaid provisions. These estimates are, of course, subject to considerable uncertainty, most importantly because predicting how states would respond to the dramatic changes in the policy environment under the Graham-Cassidy proposal is very challenging. What is clear, however, is that the legislation would result in very large reductions in insurance coverage.

Delete...A new analysis of the GOP's latest bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare shows the bill hitting hardest in states held by holdout votes Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and John McCain (R-Ariz.).

Graham and Cassidy go into overdrive to win Murkowski vote
Delete...Right now it looks like an uphill battle to change Murkowski’s mind.
“I’d say the chances are less than 30 percent. Alaska doesn’t do very well in this bill. Her governor is lukewarm on it and her insurance commissioner is not for it,” one Senate GOP aide added.
Graham and Cassidy met with Murkowski on Wednesday in the office of fellow Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan (R).
...Under Graham-Cassidy, Alaska would see a $1 billion reduction in funding compared to current law for years 2020 through 2026, or about $1,350 per resident, according to a new study by Avalere, a consulting firm founded by a former Clinton administration official.
A study by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a left-leaning think tank, projected a $255 million reduction in federal funding for Alaska in 2026 alone, a number made more daunting by the state’s small population of 742,000.

McCain at the time complained the legislation had been rushed to the floor without going through the normal committee process, and he levied that same complaint against Graham-Cassidy.
Delete“I would consider supporting legislation similar to that offered by my friends Senators Graham and Cassidy were it the product of extensive hearings, debate and amendment. But that has not been the case. Instead, the specter of September 30th budget reconciliation deadline has hung over this entire process," he said on Friday.
McCain also said he couldn't back the bill without seeing a full analysis from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO).
Without a CBO score, McCain said, lawmakers have no "reliable answers" to questions about how much the bill will cost, how many people will be covered and how it will affect insurance premiums.
The CBO has said its analysis won't be ready until next month.
McCain urged his colleagues to try to craft a bipartisan healthcare bill using "regular order."
