Senator Bob Corker says that Donald Trump could set the country "on the path to World War III."

Courtesy of the New York Times:

Senator Bob Corker, the Republican chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, charged in an interview on Sunday that President Trump was treating his office like “a reality show,” with reckless threats toward other countries that could set the nation “on the path to World War III.”

In an extraordinary rebuke of a president of his own party, Mr. Corker said he was alarmed about a president who acts “like he’s doing ‘The Apprentice’ or something.”

“He concerns me,” Mr. Corker added. “He would have to concern anyone who cares about our nation.”

During the interview Corker said that he was by no means all alone in his concern:

Mr. Trump poses such an acute risk, the senator said, that a coterie of senior administration officials must protect him from his own instincts. “I know for a fact that every single day at the White House, it’s a situation of trying to contain him,” Mr. Corker said in a telephone interview.

And there's more:

In a 25-minute conversation, Mr. Corker, speaking carefully and purposefully, seemed to almost find cathartic satisfaction by portraying Mr. Trump in terms that most senior Republicans use only in private.

The senator, who is close to Mr. Tillerson, invoked comments that the president made on Twitter last weekend in which he appeared to undercut Mr. Tillerson’s negotiations with North Korea.

“A lot of people think that there is some kind of ‘good cop, bad cop’ act underway, but that’s just not true,” Mr. Corker said.

Without offering specifics, he said Mr. Trump had repeatedly undermined diplomacy with his Twitter fingers. “I know he has hurt, in several instances, he’s hurt us as it relates to negotiations that were underway by tweeting things out,” Mr. Corker said.

All but inviting his colleagues to join him in speaking out about the president, Mr. Corker said his concerns about Mr. Trump were shared by nearly every Senate Republican.

“Look, except for a few people, the vast majority of our caucus understands what we’re dealing with here,” he said, adding that “of course they understand the volatility that we’re dealing with and the tremendous amount of work that it takes by people around him to keep him in the middle of the road.”

I think we all knew, or at least thought we knew, most of this already.

Currently we are facing a potential crisis the like of which this country has NEVER faced before.

And that is a White House occupied by clinically insane individual.

If more Republicans like Bob Corker do not recognize that and take a stand, then the claim that we are headed toward World War III will no longer be considered an irresponsible exaggeration.

Don't worry, this administration has World War III covered. Think of all the generals in the White House, are they going to have a war they won't win?

    Our military is the greatest.
We have medal of honor winners that will go back to the battlefield after they are retired when they need to have that winning feeling again.
Boots on the ground for Dakota Meyers, he will fight in North Korea. If they won't let him go with his disability, he works overtime as a recruiter. He is so popular think of all the young people that will sign up to honor the flag like Dakota Meyers.

Bill Kristol To Jason Miller: 'Trump Will Kick You When It's Useful To Trump'

..."It's a good lesson that loyalty is a one-way street for Donald Trump," Kristol said.

He continued, "Trump will kick you when it's useful to Trump."

He's looking at you, Jason Miller.

Kristol also had more words for Miller, who said Corker should resign if he doesn't want to pass Trump's agenda.

"This is typical of the Trump team. They think that these Republican Senators and Congressmen were sent there to rubber stamp whatever Donald Trump wants. And not just rubber stamp, but never say anything critical."

"Bob Corker was elected, he was elected by the citizens of Tennessee. He has the same status as an elected official and other senators and the president. He owes them his six years of service, his candor, he owes them his best judgment. I wish he had exercised it a little earlier. But the Trump team think, you’re there to do whatever Donald Trump says. Donald Trump says jump, you're supposed to say how high? And if you say something critical — Corker didn’t even vote against Trump, for God’s sake, unlike John McCain and Susan Collins, but if you say something critical, boy, you've somehow betrayed the team. That's a very pernicious view of how politics should work.”

I had lunch with a Republican today. One of the first things she said was that she watches the news which is all fake news so she can know what fake things are being said.

So sorry for you. I don't have friends that don't share my political viewpoint, hell, I don't even take contracts from people that I know don't share my beliefs. It's free world and you should free yourself from having to have lunch with a republican.

Sounds like you were essentially an enabler. I consider these brainwashed rightwingers to be the equivalent of junkies or alcoholics. By remaining silent and simply accepting their fake news delusion you’re basically supporting it. We should never normalize their fake news mental abberrations. They need to be called on it every time, whether they believe you or not. We should never allow them to pull that fake news crap without objecting and correcting. I don’t care if it’s rude. We all need to stop being so polite and accepting to what amounts to mentally deranged people.

Stung Over Being Called a Moron, Donald Trump Now Insists NBC is ‘Run by Morons'

The president has a habit of taking the insults hurled his way and boomeranging them back at the hurler.

The president of the United States is still furious at his Secretary of State Rex Tillerson for reportedly calling him a “moron” or, upon further reporting, a “fucking moron.” And he won’t stop venting to friends and senior aides about the news outlet that broke the story.

In yet another sign of how deeply NBC News has managed to get under his skin, Donald Trump has, in recent days, taken to saying that the network is “run by morons,” two sources who have spoken to the president told The Daily Beast.

The Enormous Emotional Toll of Trumpism

Every day it’s something. Or 10 somethings. Can we really live with three more years of this, let alone seven?

At a certain point, the distaste becomes exhaustion. Donald Trump’s presence in our national life has been alternately infuriating, embarrassing, revolting, gross and bizarre. His non-stop assaults on our political norms are testing our capacity to sustain constant outrage without giving in to despair.

I meet victims of Trump fatigue everywhere. They stop me in airports and restaurants and on the street and ask how long we’ll have to put up with this madness – when will Bob Mueller finally bring him down, and how much more can our systems bend before they break. When I tell them Trump is likely to clamor on until either the 2018 election slows him down or the 2020 election stops him (or if Russian interference, non-white voter suppression and liberal perfectionism succeed again, ‘til he terms out in 2024), the look on their faces is something akin to terror.

For many Americans – many humans – Trump’s presidency can often feel unbearable.

Try as you might to put him out of your mind, he blunders back into your consciousness. He lumbers across your television and cellphone screens in his giant Trump suits, squinting and pouting with his silent, sullen wife or exhausted looking cabinet members in tow. One minute he’s tearing up international agreements. The next, he’s tweeting out his inner demons, mocking people of color, taunting unstable dictators with stupid nicknames and generally wreaking havoc. The Trump Show is the reality TV train wreck you can’t turn off, no matter how badly you want to. No sooner does he ruin one thing (so much for empathetic hurricane response being Presidenting 101) than he’s on to the next one (stay tuned to find out what our “tease to commercial break” president means by “the calm before the storm!”)

Even his cabinet seems to be succumbing to Trump exhaustion.

...A Navy veteran recounted a conversation with fellow tourists from Chicago while traveling in Europe. “Oh, we hate hearing his name when [we’re] here,” they’d said. “It makes us sick.”

It’s “embarrassing and depressing that his idiocy is literally risking my family’s life,” the veteran said.

...An anti-poverty activist from a Midwestern enclave described herself as alternately “angry, on high alert – adrenaline always running – and helpless” in the face of Trump’s constant attacks on vulnerable communities.

Asked to describe in a single word how Trump makes him feel, one longtime Republican active in the party, including as a donor, offered: “petrified.”

...“Every day it’s a new and fresh hell.”

That's funny! No one in my house watches any TV news and we only read what we want to online so we're never "assaulted" by Trump speaking or listening to whatever stupid thing he did or said today.

That being said, we are old, in our 50's so basically retired and trying to just enjoy life. We lived through the Bush years and just watched the Daily Show to get our news, but I get it for the younger folks this might seem unbearable, but believe me, just laugh it off and in another few terms you'll maybe have a POTUS you like, but seriously, live your lives and don't think about this shit, it's a time waster and as you young people like to say "YOLO".

    2. This is very bad. The next step is apathy. Being so tired that you just roll over and accept whatever Trump says and does because you no longer have the energy to fight it, even be appalled by it.

Normalizing Trump is highly dangerous. It emboldens him (and all of his Deplorables) and gives them a false sense of support and a true sense that they will encounter no opposition.

I hope Corker will begin impeachment when Mueller has his indictments ready for prime time.

And related to this, the NYTimes has an interesting read on how low a bar Trump has set by acting like a thug

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/08/opinion/editorials/republican-etiquette-guide.html

It's a list of all the inappropriate, disgusting, insulting, and outright criminal and treasonous things he's done.

    Samples:

Attack a senator battling terminal cancer

Pick nominees to the federal bench who call a sitting Supreme Court justice a “judicial prostitute” and refer to transgender children as part of “Satan’s plan”

Behave so erratically and irresponsibly that senators of your own party resort to saying you’re treated like an adult day-care student to keep you from starting World War III

Mock a foreign leader with a demeaning nickname and threaten his country with nuclear annihilation over Twitter

Deliver a speech to the Boy Scouts of America that includes mockery of a former president and winking references to sexual orgies, and then lie by claiming that the head of that organization called and told you it was the best speech ever delivered in Boy Scout history

Trump needs to be impeached asap, in spite of all the chaos it will cause, and the danger he might start a war to stave off that same process of impeachment

It gives something for Melania's assistant to say about the third wife.

Nothing like a cat fight type scenario for ratings. Wonderful distraction from serious American interests. Donald and Ivana probably came up with this in one of their talks. She advises him a few times a month.

"rump lashed out at Corker early Sunday, days after the outgoing GOP lawmaker suggested that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and White House chief of staff John Kelly are all that separate “our country from chaos.”

“Senator Bob Corker ‘begged’ me to endorse him for re-election in Tennessee,” Trump tweeted early Sunday. “I said ‘NO’ and he dropped out (said he could not win without my endorsement). He also wanted to be Secretary of State, I said ‘NO THANKS.‘”

Ivanka is a nickname for Ivana, similar to how a child named Robert could be called Bobby or Daniel could be called Danny. Or you could think of it like the TV show "Gilmore Girls," in which Lorelai Gilmore names her daughter Lorelai but calls her Rory.

Just as Donald Trump Jr. is named after his father, it makes sense that Ivana Trump would also want to pass her name onto the next generation.
