After the announcement of the first two travel bans in January and March, the number of international travelers arriving in the U.S. has dramatically dropped, according to ForwardKeys, a European travel-prediction firm.
Looking at the number of U.S. inbound arrivals – or the number of international tourists arriving at airports around the country – the firm found that the number of visitors dropped 1.3% following the announcement of the first travel ban on January 27. On June 26, when the second ban was partially re-instated, inbound visitors dropped again by 2.4%.
Experts expected to see falling arrivals following the first executive announcement in January, when European interest in visiting the U.S. fell 12% but to see the number of arrivals impacted so quickly is startling.
“The confusing and convoluted travel bans have done nothing but worsen the country's reputation around the world,” said Lee Abbamonte, an American travel expert who has been to every country in the world, in an email. Although he believes there should be a vetting process, he says that as it stands now, it is too stringent, and confusing for many international citizens.
A small percentage drop in arrivals is no small potatoes when translated into a dollar amount. In 2016, the U.S. travel and tourism industry generated over $1.5 trillion in economic output, supporting 7.6 million jobs, according to SelectUSA, an international trade analyst firm. That represents 2.7% of overall GDP.
Estimates are that this slump is costing the American economy billions of dollars.
I reported on this slump back in April, but apparently it has become much worse.
I guess that Trump has made America so great again that nobody wants to visit it anymore.
Good job.
P.S. Oh and by the way, travel to other countries is actually up.
What will the LIAR lie about today? Writing letters to fallen soldiers? John Mccains lack of service. Or how about Russia and the information hwy of evidence that will be used in court?

DeleteWhen will the journalists finally 'grow a pair' and call Dotard out each time he lies? Any time he is caught telling a lie, they should IMMEDIATELY shout out LIAR!!!

DeleteJust another example of trump's jobs plan, eliminate the tourism sector.
ReplyDeleteThat’s what his base wants. STAY OUT!
ReplyDeleteI believe I saw actual travel warnings issued for LGBT tourists if traveling in southern U.S. states. What a dump America is now perceived as by the rest of the world.
ReplyDeleteMean-spirited idiologies matter, just like religion poisons everything.
Yes, that travel advisory actually exists - and it is for AMERICANS who travel in our own country!

Disgusting that mitch stood next to this fraud and embarrassment to America. He said that he has the same agenda? really mitch? Mitch must resign, he is not working for Americans or does he love America. Did Mueller interview mitch and his wife also?

I suspect his has little to do with the travel ban and mostly to do with Trump himself.
ReplyDeleteEven tourists from countries that have nothing to do with the ban aren’t coming simply because of Trump and the environment of hate he nurtures. You aren’t seeing tourists from Germany or Italy or the U.K. In numbers like you used to. Japanese tourists are going somewhere else. And of course, those from Mexico and Canada have dropped of significantly. Those two countries represent a lot of our tourists.
Plenty of red states rely on tourism. I don’t know about you but I have no interest in visiting Georgia or Florida and spending my tourism dollars there. I’ve been staying within my nice blue state. If I had the money, I would travel to another country where I could breath air unsullied by Trump and his Deplorables and forget for a few weeks about that fucktard and the assholes enabling him to destroy our country. If I lived in another country, I would be looking to the rest of the world for my vacation. Why go to the U.S. when I have so many lovely, safe and welcoming places much nearer.
This is just another way Trump has totally fucked the U.S. and our economy.
But try to tell the Deplorables the reason no one is staying at their B&B is because of Trump.

We're going to Iceland next week to visit relatives as we do every fall and I dread having to try to explain "the madness of 'merica" to them because it's rather unbelievable what has happened to what used to be the most outstanding nation in the world.
ReplyDeleteOh well, it's not too bad taking a back seat to Germany because they've come a long way in 75 years, much further than anyone ever thought, so there may be hope for America, perhaps in another 50 years this place will be a respected world leader, but for now it's always nice visiting other places that are sane, clean and not the murder capital of the world.
