Longtime "Today Show" anchor Matt Lauer fired from NBC over allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct.

Courtesy of NBC News:

Matt Lauer, the anchor of "Today" for two decades, was fired by NBC News after a detailed complaint about inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace.

"Today" co-anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb announced Lauer's firing Wednesday, telling viewers at the top of the show that they were processing his departure but didn't yet know all of the details.

In a memo to employees sent Wednesday morning, NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said the complaint, which was made by a colleague of Lauer's, prompted a serious review and represented a "clear violation of our company's standards."

Lack said it was the first complaint lodged against Lauer, 59, for his behavior since he took over as anchor of the show in 1997, but there was "reason to believe" it may not have been an isolated incident.

"Our highest priority is to create a workplace environment where everyone feels safe and protected, and to ensure that any actions that run counter to our core values are met with consequences, no matter who the offender," Lack said.

Guthrie, who joined Lauer at the anchor desk in 2012, said she was "heartbroken" for both him and the "brave colleague who came forward to tell her story and any other women who have their stories to tell."

"I'm sure we will be learning more details in the hours and days to come. And we promise we will share that with you," she said.

I predicted weeks ago that we would see people who we would never have suspected accused of sexual misconduct, and I have to say that this is certainly one of them.

One thing is for certain, NBC News is absolutely not going to waste any time once allegations are made.

And another thing that is for certain is that Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb are the very definition of grace under pressure.

It is quite clear that their heart is broken and yet they soldier on and do their job even through their tears.

Which only underlines the hypocrisy in this tweet from Trump this morning.
The fact that this POS continues to live in the White House while so many people are losing their jobs for far less egregious acts of sexual misconduct is a terrible injustice that I hope will someday be rectified.

He has no shame whatsoever. Is his lashing out, so sanctimoniously, supposed to make us think HE has done no wrong? or is this for his stupid supporters who must know/suspect he's guilty but just don't care. wow.

Have they never heard the allegations? a possibility. Has Fox News ever mentioned the 20 women (and the virgin 13 year old who accused him of rape)??

Are they even investigating these things before firing? A single complaint two days ago, at a job he's had for over twenty yrs.? This whole #metoo movement has really turned into mass hysteria.

When there is compelling evidence, it is not mass hysteria. I understand where you are coming from and agree there is a chance false reporting for retribution sake is legitimate; however, people have now found their voice and the rights of the victims is now foremost and not ignored. Again, remember compelling evidence with multipe victims should be reported and believed.

I kinda doubt he was fired over mere rumours, @ 6:48. As you state, he's had that job for over 20 years. I figure the matter was looked into thoroughly, and Lauer's behaviour made him a liability to the company.

@7:35 is correct, "hysteria" has a distinctly sexist root meaning. Did you use that word on purpose, @6:48?

According to TMZ: Sources connected to NBC tell TMZ the network has been investigating Lauer for weeks and multiple media outlets -- including The New York Times -- were working a story about the anchor and sexual harassment. As one source put it, "Lack tried to get ahead of the story before it broke."

Fact: "Sexual harassment is any unwanted visual, verbal, or physical sexual behavior that interferes with a survivor’s work, education, or life. The U.S. Equal Opportunity Commission defines sexual harassment as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature.20 In a job-related context, these harassments can affect an individual’s employment, interfere with their work performance, or create an offensive, hostile, or intimidating work environment.20

According to the EOC, there are two different types of sexual harassment: quid pro quo and hostile environment."

    10. That's what I was thinking.

We may have jumped the shark into the land of the witch hunt.

I hope NBC is conscientiously investigating this and it's not just the hearsay of one person. There are people that would use this opportunity for vindictive payback for some slight or personal gain.

While it is really important to believe the women and to turn the tide of sexual harassment (not only in the workplace) it is equally important we do not negate legitimate claims by instantly believing those that have an axe to grind and are just making stuff up. They do a disservice to those that have truly been abused.

When I was still in the corporate world, because of a sexual harassment complaint, we went back to calling each other Mr. or Miss/Mrs. and there were no extracurricular activities, no office parties and certainly no sharing of personal information amongst co-workers.

Suffice it to say, if worked well, lots of work got done and people weren't friends simply due to workplace proximity.

I suggest this to any HR that wants to run a successful business where people actually work instead of fraternizing.

      Matt Lauer: Democrat or Republican?
Lauer faced allegations for his lack of fact-checking, and doing his homework on the Democratic and Republican nominees he was interviewing. There were several discrepancies in the way he questioned Trump and Hillary. While he kept interrupting the 68-year-old Democratic presidential candidate, he let the 70-year-old real estate mogul speak for a longer duration. While Lauer himself may identify as a Democrat, he has been slammed by the Democrats at town hall for showing bias.

I never watched him and didn't know much about him. Once I saw something about 'Where is Matt Lauer?' I never found out where he was and never cared.

When I first heard Matt Lauer was fired for inappropriate, sex issues I wondered if he actually did something or if it was shady accusations and no investigation by his boss.

Now I am reading his problems go back many years. His bosses had to know and they are complicit and as wrong as the creepy Matt Lauer.
Why did Today Show allow the sex behaviors to go on and on? What is wrong with the network?

Employees like Matt Lauer exist and get by with mistakes and crimes because of employers that are complicit and even help with cover ups.

How do the American taxpayers and citizens fire their worst sex offender employee, living in public housing and paid to serve all people of our country?

    CNN

(CNN) Most past presidents probably wouldn't say anything publicly about the bombshell firing Wednesday morning of NBC's Matt Lauer for "inappropriate sexual behavior." And, if they did say something, it would be along the lines of "Even the highest profile among us are not and should not be immune from being punished for these sorts of unacceptable behaviors."...

.... Low road. Low road. Low road. Every damn time.

Why? That's a question only Trump can answer -- and it's not clear he would even know what to say. It's just who he is. He grew up learning that if someone tries to go low on you, the way to win is to go even lower -- and to make clear to them (and everyone else) that you are willing to go even lower still.

Trump views every event -- from white supremacist violence in Charlottesville to the firing of Lauer for inappropriate workplace behavior -- as an opportunity to score political points or prove himself right about something or other.

For him, taking the low road isn't an option. It's the only option.

NBC Only Fired Matt Lauer to Save Face Ahead of Looming Exposé

Chuck Heath Jr. was a sick one when working at an elementary school.

Too bad the school system was so lax. Kids in that area get pregnant at 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and no one thinks anything of it. In-fact it was encouraged by only abstinence adults, when abstinence was clearly not working.
Adults did not care. Sex gave them all something to do on those long cold nights. Married women don't always warm up and it was not a place where polygamy was practiced. Anyone available was game for the molesters.

Matt Lauer Accused of Sexual Harassment by Multiple Women (EXCLUSIVE)

As the co-host of NBC’s “Today,” Matt Lauer once gave a colleague a sex toy as a present. It included an explicit note about how he wanted to use it on her, which left her mortified.

On another day, he summoned a different female employee to his office, and then dropped his pants, showing her his penis. After the employee declined to do anything, visibly shaken, he reprimanded her for not engaging in a sexual act.

He would sometimes quiz female producers about who they’d slept with, offering to trade names. And he loved to engage in a crass quiz game with men and women in the office: “f—, marry, or kill,” in which he would identify the female co-hosts that he’d most like to sleep with.

These accounts of Lauer’s behavior at NBC are the result of a two-month investigation by Variety, with dozens of interviews with current and former staffers. Variety has talked to three women who identified themselves as victims of sexual harassment by Lauer, and their stories have been corroborated by friends or colleagues that they told at the time. They have asked for now to remain unnamed, fearing professional repercussions.

“I think everyone was a bit surprised how quickly this all turned around. No one expected his termination to happen that quickly. I believe the silver bullet was the photo and that was so damning that they had no other option but to fire him.

“Plus, the girl had a high-power attorney and so everyone knew if NBC didn’t make a decision and push it out quick, they would have arranged for a sit-down interview with a competitor [and the messages could be made public]. Matt took the news well once he realized he was in a corner. He was very apologetic.”

They are also saving a bundle on his million dollar plus salary.
Now they can hire a woman to replace him and pay her less!
