"The Professor," a central figure in the Robert Mueller investigation, seems to have disappeared.

Have you seen this man?
Courtesy of CNN:

Joseph Mifsud, the Maltese academic suspected of being a link between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, was once a regular on the foreign policy circuit, attending conferences the world over.

Now, after being identified as a key figure in the US special counsel investigation into Russian influence over the 2016 US presidential election, Mifsud has gone to ground.

Last Thursday he disappeared from the private university in Rome where he teaches. Repeated attempts to reach him since have been unsuccessful, though he appears to have read some messages from CNN.

But more details are emerging of the background and contacts of the man who emerged last week as "the professor" in court filings relating to charges brought against former Trump aide George Papadopoulos.

In the US affidavit, Papadopoulos claims Mifsued -- referred to as "Foreign Contact 1" -- told him in April 2016 that the Russians had "thousands of emails" relating to Hillary Clinton.

An associate also told CNN that he repeatedly bragged about how Moscow had "compromising material" on the Clinton campaign in spring 2016, contradicting Mifsud's assertion that he never talked about Russian "dirt" on the Democratic presidential bid.

I think Mueller needs to start offering to take these folks into protective custody, because once Putin knows who they are targeting he will not let them simply wander around loose.

That's what I think; Mueller is already listening to his beautiful voice.

  2. I suspect he simply went home to Russia so Mueller couldn't reach him. His mission has been compromised the way light compromises a cockroach's activities.

This is what Trump meant when he said "People will die" if Mueller's investigation continues.

Sheridan wrote on Twitter that he had initially found a Facebook friend connection between Polonskaya and Mifsud last month, and made an archived copy of Polonskaya’s page, which has since been ALTerd."

As ugly or swampy as this may sound politically, not really sure any of this is actually criminal, not to mention it sounds like all the claims were supposedly made by a foreigner.

Again, unless I am reading this wrong, not really sure Mueller has any authority much less ability to take anyone into protective custody, much less a foreigner, unless you are talking about international kidnapping.

      Seek Asylum> Then get protection.
'Every year people come to the United States seeking protection because they have suffered persecution or fear that they will suffer persecution due to:
      Race.
      Religion.

What makes you think he wants asylum 6:54? He is probably perfectly happy where he is making his money. He also probably hasn't gone "underground" so much as probably is just lying low because he doesn't need the bad press. You all seem to think people are in great danger from Russia over this investigation. Hardly believe Russia cares than much other than having a good laugh.

Hmmm. seems to me that if Putin is denying, then anything that threatens that denial threatens Putin. And it's not like Russian diplomats and others don't have a history of disappearing or dying inexplicably conveniently.

But nice try on your part comrade 7:38

      Nice try yourself, 7:57....

Now please explain how ANY of this is a threat to Putin. Even if it were discovered that the whole Trump army colluded and went to prison (which is not going to happen save for a few individuals that have been caught breaking federal law).... Why in the world would Putin be threatened by any of this. Frankly he is probably loving every minute of whats been going on so far.

So once again, how is Putin threatened one way or another how this works out?

A threat to Putin is like the dotard saying he'll shoot up 5th Avenue and we'll love him for it. What a little putz he is.

Trump accepts US intelligence report that Russia meddled in election

While President Donald Trump says he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is sincere when he denies that Russia sought to interfere in the 2016 U.S. election, the president said he personally believes the conclusion of the U.S. intelligence community -– and not Putin -– that Russia did in fact meddle in the election....

Trump went on to say he personally accepts the opinion of the U.S. intelligence agencies “as currently led” by his appointees, in spite of Putin’s denials.

“I'm with our agencies, especially as currently constituted with their current leadership,” Trump said. “I believe in our intel agencies, our intelligence agencies ... as currently led by fine people, I believe very much in our intelligence agencies.”....

Trump complicates his effort to build warmer Russia ties

....The combative commander in chief re-emerged Saturday and Sunday irked that his promised thaw with Russia has been slowed by parallel investigations into Moscow's 2016 election meddling.

Yet his continued vacillations on whether Russia interfered in last year's election have only clouded the matter further, thwarting the type of substantive cooperation he's seeking....

Trump straddles on issue of Russian election meddling

    • President Donald Trump tried to have it both ways Sunday on the issue of Russian interference in last year's presidential race

    • "I believe that he feels that he and Russia did not meddle in the election," Trump said of Putin

    Published 3 Hours Ago

    The Associated Press

President Donald Trump tried to have it both ways Sunday on the issue of Russian interference in last year's presidential race, saying he believes the U.S. intelligence agencies when they say Russia meddled and Russian President Vladimir Putin's sincerity in claiming that his country did not.

"I believe that he feels that he and Russia did not meddle in the election," Trump said of Putin at a news conference in Hanoi with Vietnam's president.

"As to whether I believe it, I'm with our agencies," Trump said. "As currently led by fine people, I believe very much in our intelligence agencies."

The CIA and other U.S. intelligence agencies have concluded that Russia meddled in the 2016 election to help Trump defeat Democrat Hillary Clinton. A special counsel's examination of potential collusion between Moscow and Trump campaign aides so far has led to indictments against Trump's former campaign chairman and another top aide for crimes unrelated to the campaign, and a guilty plea from a Trump foreign policy adviser....

People make money from providing information, alleged or real, doesn't really matter, over elections. Misfud has nothing to lose, and nothing to be worried about from either the US or from Russia. Russia could care less either, as they have nothing to lose, only to gain the longer this plays out. Russia is guaranteed in full tilt laughter over the left wing McCarthyism going on right now, that I will guarantee you.

I truly believe evil Trump wants to play at the same level as Putin, Duterte, Kim Jong Un, King Salman, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and others.

Trump wishes the Department of Justice would obey his every command and get rid of Trump's enemies.

Just like the others mentioned above, if you are not their allies then you are their enemies.

Trump cannot find an allie in President Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, James Comey, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara,
acting Attorney General Sally Yates and others

Ex-intelligence chiefs: President Trump is being 'played' by Russian President Putin

    Deirdre Shesgreen, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — President Trump is being “played” by Russian President Vladimir Putin, two former intelligence chiefs said on Sunday, responding to Trump’s statement that Putin “means it” when he denies the Kremlin meddled in the 2016 presidential election

In a joint appearance on CNN's State of the Union, James Clapper, the ex-director of national intelligence, and John Brennan, the former CIA director, both slammed Trump’s remarks as naïve and dangerous.

“Putin is very clever,” Brennan said, and he is using Trump’s insecurity and his need for flattery to convince him that Russia’s intentions toward the United States are not malicious.
