United States one of only three nations to vote no on a UN resolution to condemn Nazism. Wait, what?

Courtesy of CBS News:

The United States says it was one of three countries to vote against a U.N. resolution condemning the glorification of Nazism over freedom of speech issues and concerns that Russia was using it to carry out political attacks against its neighbors.

The resolution entitled "Combating glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to fueling contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance," was approved by the U.N.'s human rights committee on Friday with 131 in favor, 3 against with 48 abstentions.

Ukraine and Palau were the other no votes.

"We condemn without reservation all forms of religious and ethnic intolerance or hatred at home and around the world," said Deputy U.S. Representative to the Economic and Social Council Stefanie Amadeo, explaining the U.S. vote.

"However, due to this resolution's overly narrow scope and politicized nature, and because it calls for unacceptable limits on the fundamental freedom of expression, the United States cannot support it," Amadeo said.

Why didn't he just come out and say that Doanld Trump is cool with Nazis, and needs their support in the next election?

Well it's a good thing that Ukraine and Palau voted along with us or we might look like Nazi loving assholes.

Right?

Springtime for putin and Russia, winter for USA.

As usual republicans are too cowardly to distinguish between freedom of speech and pure hatred, probably because they are the first to fling the hate excusing themselves with the old "it was a joke" reply when called out on it.
Besides, trump can't afford to alieninate the 39% that voted for him.

And do we even have to wonder how much they would have cared about "free speech" if the resolution had been to condemn ISIS?

America: protecting the "rights" of Nazis now.

Obama previously protected the rights of all to free speech also 5:58.... Obama protected the rights of all including Nazis, because of the utmost importance of free speech. Do you still have a problem with Obama's no vote?

"The United States votes against the resolution every year, along with just a handful of others, while the European Union nations and some others typically abstain. The resolution always passes overwhelmingly, usually with little fanfare."

all hate groups have the right to free speech. if we take theirs how long before we lose ours? no matter what, they must be allowed to speak. without violence.

  2. Hm, I would have guessed Russia and Ukraine.

    Well, half right isn’t bad.

Let me guess. Russia was one of the 48 that abstained?

Obama administration also voted no on this annual tradition due to the protection of free speech. What do you have to say about that?

Gryphen how bout you? Care to change your stance now that Trump is just following Obama's protocol on this vote? Is he a genius now?

I do not think this President is doing this for Free Speech reasons. You seem to have forgotten this President is trying to do everything to reverse things President Obama did.

    4. If Obama voted no, then why didn't Trump vote yes? It's not like he wants to protect our free speech. Far from it. He wants to muzzle the press and suppress dissent.

In the U.S. here is freedom of speech and then there is freedom to speak hatred against your fellow citizens. Why is this considered acceptable?

Donnie handed out sandwiches (hope they didn't come from the dirty mar a logo kitchen)to a captive audience of coast guard people, while bragging that he is responsible for the stock market and that he makes sure they get the best equipment and the crap is sold elsewhere.
Really, there are two production lines for military hardware, one good for USA and one crap for foreigners, sure the manufacturers will be thrilled their customer's are clued in on this secret.
Also he is delusional if he thinks he controls the stock market.

Of course he's doesn't control it, but sonny boy and he will say he's responsible. Remember, a vast majority of his base are severely lacking in the IQ department and will believe anything fed to them.

"At the United Nations this week, the U.S. plans to vote against a yearly resolution that condemns the glorification of Nazism, State Department officials said Wednesday. Although it may seem counterintuitive — who wouldn't want to condemn Nazis? — officials said free speech protections and other problems with the resolution make it impossible for America to support.

The United States votes against the resolution every year, along with just a handful of others, while the European Union nations and some others typically abstain. The resolution always passes overwhelmingly, usually with little fanfare."

Gosh- It wasn't such a big deal when the Obama administration was supporting freedom of speech? Every Year.

It is a yearly 'show' vote. US votes the same every year. Same 'no' vote as under Obama. US always protects freedom of speech. It is ok when Obama protects freedom of speech, not Trump.
