Happy Saturnalia!

I actually typically have no problem wishing people a Merry Christmas.

But since Trump decided to brag about bringing Christmas back, I simply had to defy that orange tinted, anus mouthed, POS.

Besides of course Saturnalia was the true holiday before those uptight Christians hijacked it in order to spread their capitalist religion around the world.

And it might never have taken off quite as well if Clement Clarke Moore had not written that poem in 1823, and Coca Cola had not altered the look of St. Nick from this rather grim looking fellow...

....into this jolly elf.

Oh well, stolen celebrations, reinvented historical figures, evil capitalist underpinnings, what does it really matter if we are celebrating with loved ones and taking this opportunity to share our bounty
with the less fortunate?

I love this holiday, and hope that you and yours have a wonderful day.

Well Ok. Another story I have read, noticed nor studied. I was raised to trust and believe in humanity without defined religion. As I researched my ancestry I found the earliest ancestors were the boatmen and then Huguenots, Quakers, and then all other religions throughout the family tree. And then even going back to the boatmen that carried souls to gates of heaven or hell. One modern day boatman was "Claudius Boatman Man vs Myth". His ancestry is rich in history and probably connects many of family. A website dedicated to his ancestry and family ancestry exist. Bazar indeed. So many nice stories. We live in amazing times of discovery truth reality and belief. We are all connected to this world. One Family.

Gee, thank you, Mr. Trump for bringing Christmas back. I had no idea it went anywhere.

Giving Americans back things that were never lost in the first place... It’s his greatest accomplishment of the year!

  8. From what I’ve read, Charles Dickens and his Christmas Carol are responsible for really pushing Christmas as a holiday and before him Washington Irving. Before Dickens’ book, there wasn’t that much celebration and such, thanks to Oliver Cromwell. Of course, America would push it way into commercialism. But even as a Christian holiday, I guess before Dickens the English didn’t really celebrate it that much, even after it wasn’t illegal to celebrate it. Victoria’s husband Albert is responsible for bringing the Christmas tree tradition over and of course, anything Victoria did, everyone else did too. She’s responsible for so many of us suffering through years of piano instruction.

Yule gives us the yule log both in the fireplace and as a delicious French cake. It also gives us wassail or spiced cider and toasted bread, which is why we give “toasts” at celebrations.

I have no problem putting the Saturnaila back in Christmas.

I think in the spirit of diversity we should include Yule as well.

What Sally Yates did *here* was rather clever, though, but it probably went right over Trumplethinskin's head, because he would not understand the reference as he does not read:

the winter solstice is a great time to party. it lifts the lack of sunshine and the depression that comes with it. all traditions are welcome.

Our family has been Atheist for 3 generations, but hey sometime we still do presents and stuff in the tradition of xmas or whatever they call it these days :-)

Suffice it to say it's a time off work, for those that aren't retired, where families can actually conjoin and dine and catch up, whatever we call it, it does mean something to even those that don't believe in any of the reasons for it except for celebrating the fact that another dark arctic winter is turning towards warmer and sunnier times.

even if you don't believe, it can be a great holiday if you like fighting with your "princess everybody loves me- how can you not' sister. i prefer friends. and no football. skip the turkey and ham. gifts should be real. don't buy a new car or video game system. books and treasures of a real nature. donations to worthy charities-your local food pantry. Christmas is not about greed-lets try to remember it. i got a book about the Navajo code talkers. wonderful. i'm saying you need to care about someone beside your self. or that man who died a horrible death on a cross died for nothing. i think our current president is a great example of what you never want to be like.
