While debating a land-use bill at a committee meeting on Tuesday night, Pennsylvania state Rep. Matt Bradford laid his hand — for just a moment — on the left forearm of the colleague sitting next to him.
That colleague was conservative Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, who interrupted Bradford mid-sentence with a personal bit of information.
“Look, I'm a heterosexual. I have a wife, I love my wife, I don't like men — as you might. But stop touching me all the time,” Metcalfe told Bradford, who then began laughing.
Several other members of the committee, which Metcalfe chairs, giggled and smirked.
“Keep your hands to yourself,” said Metcalfe, a Republican from Butler County. “If you want to touch somebody, you have people on your side of the aisle who might like it.
“I don't.”
Bradford, a Democrat, appeared to be stunned by the comments.
“Okay, chairman, chairman,” he said, widely grinning as committee members laughed.
One member appeared to conceal her face from the camera with her hand. “We're officially off the rails. ... My intent was just to beg for your permission for about 30 seconds.”
“Then beg, don't touch,” responded Metcalfe, who is serving his 10th term in office. Bradford continued to laugh.
I have seen some rather stunning examples of homophobia in my time, but I think this one easily makes the top of the list.
You know what they say about those who freak out the most about homosexuality don't you?
Every time Metcalfe touches someone, they now have a responsibility to go off on them.

Metcalf is a self hating severely closeted gay man. I predict after this little stunt, he will be outed. If I could have one wish, it would be that being homosexual isn’t seen as something wrong. I’ve really had it with these smug hypocritical conservatives.

DeleteI agree with you totally. My son is gay and he has men friend who are both gay and straight. They always greet with a hug--both the straight and gay men--there is no fear of touching because the straight men are very secure in their sexuality. This guy is terrified so he is quaking inside that he will be found out. He makes me want to vomit with his holier than thou attitude!

DeleteMetcalfe’s office isn’t too far from me, but thank goodness he doesn’t represent my district. He’s a true deplorable. Might as well be Trump 2.0. He’s all-in for anything that Trump and Co. would do to prevent Muslims and Mexicans from entering the country. He thinks that those of us in PA are in danger if we allow refugees to come into our state. Class A jerk, but he has his sheeple who go along with whatever he says. I’m glad that the video of him proclaiming how heterosexual he is went viral. Let the rest of the country see what kind of Republican yahoos occupy our bloated PA legislature.

ReplyDeletewe had a bishop at our church(Mormon) who spent all his time looking for gays. he accused me of being gay because i wouldn't marry any of the men at the church. the one guy was a widower with 6 young kids! he wanted a slave. we had a young woman move here from Arizona and he sent her an e-mail because she was going to a party hosted by the gay kids. he was a teacher at the UW and got censored by the UW. it was in the local daily paper! anyway, yes, i think he was very gay. the church policy is to accept people as they are. don't see a lot of that. Metcalfe's a real creep. like he never touches anyone on the arm. psycho polictians.
