Putin calls Trump for the second time in four days to thank him for a supposed CIA tip that helped stop a "terrorist" attack. Things that make you go, "Hmm."

Courtesy of The Guardian:

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin spoke for the second time in four days on Sunday, the White House said, and agreed that a CIA tip which helped Russia prevent bombings in St Petersburg was “an example of the positive things that can occur when our countries work together”.The two leaders’ first call this week was on Thursday, when Trump thanked Putin for his remarks “acknowledging America’s strong economic performance”, according to the White House.

The two presidents also discussed ways to address North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic weapons program.

The Kremlin said on Sunday Putin told Trump the information provided by the CIA was sufficient to track down and detain a group of Islamic State-linked suspects who were planning to bomb the Kazan Cathedral and other sites in the city.

Putin asked Trump to convey his gratitude to the CIA and said Russian law enforcement agencies would hand over any information they get about potential terror threats against the US, as they have done in the past.

The White House said Trump “appreciated” the conversation and “stressed the importance of intelligence cooperation to defeat terrorists wherever they may be”.

Do you all smell that fishy smell? Or is that just me?

What an amazing coincidence that as Trump and Putin push for some joint intelligence operation between America and Russia, that the CIA just so happens to stumble upon some information about a potential terrorist attack.

And how much more amazing is it that while Trump is suggesting that we need to work with Russia to fight ISIS, that this thwarted bomb attack is credited to them?

And if all of that were not amazing enough, how fortuitous is it that all of this is happening right as Robert Mueller suddenly seems to be getting much closer to learning some devastating new facts about the Trump campaign and their dealings with Russia?

I mean it all seems so perfectly timed, don't you think?

By the way in the past American intelligence agencies have treated Putin's claims of thwarted terrorist attacks with a high degree of skepticism.

Just thought I would throw that in there to provide a little context.

P.S. The Washington Post found the read out of the phone call to be a little troubling.

OT: "“President Trump’s transportation budget slashes federal aid to the nation’s rail systems by cutting funding for long-distance Amtrak service and severely limiting money to help expand transit lines and build new ones. The $16.2 billion budget for discretionary transportation spending represents a nearly 13 percent reduction in transportation spending over fiscal 2017. That includes a $928 million cut from transit construction grants, nearly half of what Congress recently appropriated for this fiscal year, and a $630 million reduction in subsidies for long-distance Amtrak routes.”" INFANT infra structure.

Snoop Dogg joined the fray in support of Jay-Z.

Zimmerman also told The Blast he would “beat Jay-Z,” adding that “anyone who fucks with my parents will be fed to an alligator.”

He referred to Martin’s shooting, saying, “I know how to handle people who fuck with me, I have since February 2012.”

Rapper Snoop Dogg responded to Zimmerman’s threat on Instagram Sunday, making it clear he was in Jay-Z’s corner:

Senate Dems will force GOP to cast deeply unpopular vote against internet freedom

The American people aren’t taking the Federal Communications Commission’s repeal of Obama-era net neutrality regulations lying down, and neither are Democrats.

Shortly after the party-line vote to repeal the regulations, which prevent internet service providers from blocking or slowing content, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer promised to force a Senate vote on blocking the decision, using a favorite Republican legislative tool to do it.

The Congressional Review Act of 1996 (CRA) gives Congress 60 working days to review new agency regulations, and to overturn them with a simple majority. At a press conference in New York, Schumer told reporters that he could use the CRA to force a vote to block the repeal with a simple 51-vote majority, using the same law that Republicans relied on to wipe out many Obama-era regulations:

“One, this CRA doesn’t need the support of the majority leader,” Schumer noted. “We can bring it to the floor and force a vote. So, there will be a vote to repeal the rule that the FCC passed.”

“It’s in our power to do that and that’s the beauty of the CRA rule,” he continued. “Sometimes we don’t like them, when they used it to repeal some of the pro-environmental regulations, but now we can use the CRA to our benefit, and we intend to.”

The CRA was masterminded by then-Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich in 1996, but until this year it was only successfully used once. Since Trump took office, however, Republicans have used the CRA to repeal 15 rules.

Or do you simply mean if it doesn't lead to a Trump impeachment?

Do you realize that is not his task right? He wasn't given some implicit task of 'impeaching the President.'

Trump team’s meeting with Mueller’s office poised to ratchet up tensions

White House lawyers are expected to meet with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s office late this week seeking good news: that his sprawling investigation’s focus on President Trump will soon end and their client will be cleared.

But people familiar with the probe say that such assurances are unlikely and that the meeting could trigger a new, more contentious phase between the special counsel and a frustrated president, according to administration officials and advisers close to Trump.

People with knowledge of the investigation said it could last at least another year — pointing to ongoing cooperation from witnesses such as former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos and former national security adviser Michael Flynn, as well as a possible trial of two former Trump campaign officials. The special counsel’s office has continued to request new documents related to the campaign, and members of Mueller’s team have told others they expect to be working through much of 2018, at a minimum.

‘He is living in his own world’: Trump ‘confident, even arrogant’ as Mueller encircles top aides

Tump is “living in his own world” and refusing to take special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation seriously, the Washington Post reports.

Trump’s lawyers have reportedly assured the president the special counsel’s probe into collusion between his campaign and Russia will wrap up by the year’s end. This week, his lawyers plan to meet with Mueller’s team to ask if the special counsel requires more information or documents before concluding the investigation.

One adviser described Trump as “confident, even arrogant” in his belief that Mueller’s probe will draw to a close soon.

But for all of Trump’s self-assuredness, people familiar with the investigation told the Washington Post the special counsel’s investigation is likely to carry on for at least another year.

“I think it’s possible Mueller’s team could give them an idea of how much longer they anticipate their investigation will last,” former deputy special counsel Peter Zeidenberg said. “I would be shocked if they have a timeline anything similar to what we’ve heard coming from the White House.”

Mark Corallo, a one-time spokesman for Trump’s legal team, likewise said he doesn’t see Mueller’s probe ending in the timeframe the president believes it will. But, he argued the special counsel “understands you can’t have a president who is living this cloud of uncertainty.”

CNN on Monday reported Trump predicts a “letter” of exoneration from Mueller, noting allies fear a “meltdown” if he doesn’t receive it.

“I’ve known him long enough to know that disappointing him is a problem and they’ve built up a level of expectations for him that are unrealistic,” a friend of Trump told CNN.

As Mueller was announcing that Flynn had signed a cooperation agreement—the turning point in his probe—House Republicans were drafting portions of their *final report* on the scandal. Sort of guarantees that whole investigation is a sham, wouldn't you say?

This is why Trump says he is not thinking about firing Mueller. It's because he is going to fire Mueller's boss.

He has the same result in mind: ending the criminal probe of him and his grifter family.

Note #2: My point in saying this is that as the legal noose tightens in the Trump-Russia probe, tweets attacking supposed "conspiracy theorists" will explode. They'll come from three groups: (a) Republicans, (b) Republicans pretending to be Dems, (c) Dems who don't read the news.
