St. Louis gun buy back program such as success that they ran out of money before they ran out of guns to buy back.

Courtesy of Chron:

An effort to remove guns from the streets of St. Louis is being called a success, so much so that there wasn't enough money to buy up all of the offered weapons.

Hundreds of people turned out Saturday for a gun buyback program, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported . The city has recorded more than 200 murders this year, the most in two decades, and officials say part of the problem is too many guns.

Those bringing in guns were promised $100 to $200 per weapon, no questions asked. The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, along with individuals and some companies, raised $125,000 in donations.

It wasn't enough, and some people had to be turned away. Police said 303 handguns, 533 long guns and six assault rifles were purchased.

Just imagine how many lives could be saved if this program went national.

That married with more stringent background checks for gun buyers, and mandated gun registry programs, could save perhaps thousands of lives each year.

I don't know, seems kind of worth it to me.

But then again perhaps I care more about the sanctity of life than your average supposedly pro-life conservative.

the program is more likely a trade in/trade up sales incentice.

No, $100-$200 is not an incentive for a trade in/up sale. Worth way more to sell privately. This is for people who do not want the gun and don’t want them in circulation.

It is shitty old stolen & malfunctioning guns for booze/drug money. They can always find more stolen guns.

Nobody in their right mind would sell a good gun worth much more than that for a couple hundred bucks.

    3. That’s what I was thinking. Wouldn’t be surprised if the NRA and gun manufacturers were making the donations just so they could sell more new guns.

The nra and pukes like them should be required to buy back all guns they flooded the country with. They should fund law enforcement. And they should be held liable and accountable for deaths and all gun related crimes. WAKE up Americans these assholes are drugging our youth, flooding the country with assault weapons. And now we have the most disgusting pig on the planet attempting to turn the USA communist. I don't take it lightly and it must stop today. Wake the F up.

Every gun owner should take mandatory insurance ...since the gun rights people say cars also kill people then ok like all car owners are mandated ( in most states ) take liability insurance for guns also .

    3. No one is saying they can’t have their guns. If they need a license or training or whatever, they can be required to have insurance too. You can afford the gun and the ammunition but you can’t afford the insurance? Tough shit.

Personally, I’m in favor of ammunition control and putting. A HUGE tax, levies, fees, etc. on ammunition. The second amendment doesn’t say squat about ammunition. (Probably because they made their own at the time.)

Lol the second amendment moron has never read the actual second amendment.

Also only 3% of Americans belong to the terrorist group called the NRA.
Again a fine example of a terrorist group holding the majority of Americans hostage to their bastardization of the second amendment.

    9. 12:06. Dear Mr. Educated Troll.

The second amendment doesn't guarantee the right of the public to own assault weapons either. That is an invention of the NRA.

You've just opened your mouth and removed all doubt.

you need to do a little research on this. heard a story on NPR about police departments doing buy-backs, who also sell them and their own firearms to arms dealers to raise money! It's a thought-provoking episode (can't remember which program did it) that makes this effort a mockery.

The idea is to get the guns off the street completely. The cops don't know who the good guys are. And ban assault weapons completely. If little boys want to play with assault weapons they can JOIN THE MILITARY. Ban all assault weapons from usa streets!!!! I
