Courtesy of National Geographic:
When photographer Paul Nicklen and filmmakers from conservation group Sea Legacy arrived in the Baffin Islands in late summer, they came across a heartbreaking sight: a starving polar bear on its deathbed.
Nicklen is no stranger to bears. From the time he was a child growing up in Canada's far north the biologist turned wildlife photographer has seen over 3,000 bears in the wild. But the emaciated polar bear, featured in videos Nicklen published to social media on December 5, was one of the most gut-wrenching sights he's ever seen.
"We stood there crying—filming with tears rolling down our cheeks," he said.
Not so very long ago we had an administration that understood what has happening and was willing to do the hard work to make a change for the better.
Now this poor animal will undoubtedly be joined by scores of other animals who will die needlessly because humans are either too arrogant or too selfish to do anything to save them.
This makes me so sad,I couldn't even watch the video, the photo was enough.
ReplyDeleteMother nature is really angry for destroying the planet.I wish she would swallow up trump and his gang of thugs in one giant sink hole while he is on the golf course in FL.
Planet is not destroyed, just the ability to sustain humans.
DeleteI'm trying to see a downside but when a cancer dies I tend to celebrate.
Yes, I believe unenlightened humans are cancer cells.
In some ways I'm constantly shocked. Global warming—unlike so many other issues—affects everyone. True, it will hurt the poor first, but this scene is enough to destroy any person with a heart. On the other hand, the same people that have raped and pillaged and colonized and destroyed resources for hundreds of years, no matter the cost, are continuing to do so. All for money/power. What I do wonder is what, if they're lucky enough to live to an old age, they'll think in their final days and final moments.
ReplyDeleteI've found either a human gets it or they don't. And trying to explain why our environment is so important to someone who doesn't get it is like describing the flavor of the color nine.
DeleteSooo what’s the difference between life being killed off with the past warnings and cooking’s before human presence ? We can not control nature and nature is and always has been volatile. We CAN control pollution though. We need to invest in recycling everything and make companies create ways to only use such products.
ReplyDeleteIt's too late 535.
DeleteWhat you propose might have worked if humans had embraced the idea in the eighties. Now? No, conservation is no longer an option, not when the damage is already done and is so pervasive.
Humans with their need to control and destroy have placed plastics into the food chain and water supply. It's everywhere. And that's not the worst of it - the acidification of the oceans is eating the shells of clams, barnacles, and snails. There are dead patches in the ocean and they are growing.
Dead patches.
In the sea.
We did this.
Humans had a paradise and destroyed it. The reasons don't matter when all is said and done.
You don't believe wingnuts give a shit about Polar Bears? Hah!!! Polar Bears have the appropriate color fur, but, underneath their skin is Black like a negroe's or other POC and you know wingnuts wouldn't send a flunky across the street to piss on a POC if they were on fire.

In 1942, when the prison shifted the time of executions to the evening, Stieve visited the prison and got the time moved back to the morning so he could continue to process organs and tissues on the same day. He also got details of the women’s medical histories before they died, including information about their menstrual cycles, their reactions to the prison environment, and the impact of receiving a death sentence." Stieve found that women living with a looming death sentence ovulated less predictably and sometimes experienced what he called “shock bleedings.”The Nazis tested the hypothesis that stress inhibits ovulation by selecting women who were about to ovulate and sending them to the gas chambers, only to bring them back after their realistic mock killing, to see what effects this had on their ovulatory pattern. An extremely high percentage of these women did not ovulate." " “euthanasia” centers"

Real horror of this story?
ReplyDeletePolar bears starving has been happening for at least a decade. A decade.
Scientists have the data. Our Repulican masters have downplayed the issue and worked their best to suppress the truth.
Citizens United. What Orwellian double speak. Only thing they united was the ogliarchs.
Female photographer took similar photos in the Scandanavian countries well before the elections.
DeleteAnd still people do nothing.
I guess, because you can’t eat polar bears. They don’t pollinate fields. People see no value in polar bears.
Of course, they don’t give a shit about the bees either.
Or trees.
Or wolves.
Or anything that doesn’t put money directly in their pockets or that they cannot factory farm and then consume.
We aren’t a cancer on this planet. We are parasites that are killing our host.
