The Pope calls the spreading of "fake news" a "very serious sin." Seriously?

Courtesy of the AP:

Pope Francis is criticizing journalists who dredge up old scandals and sensationalize the news, saying it’s a “very serious sin” that hurts all involved.

Francis, who plans to dedicate his upcoming annual communications message to “fake news,” told Catholic media on Saturday that journalists perform a mission that is among the most “fundamental” to democratic societies.

But he reminded them to provide precise, complete and correct information and not to provide one-sided reports.

The pope said: “You shouldn’t fall into the ‘sins of communication:’ disinformation, or giving just one side, calumny that is sensationalized, or defamation, looking for things that are old news and have been dealt with and bringing them to light today.”

He called those actions a “grave sin that hurts the heart of the journalist and hurts others.”

Look I totally agree with the Popester here that the spreading of fake news is a bad idea.

However does he really want to talk about "disinformation, or giving just one side, calumny that is sensationalized?"

Because I am pretty sure that his entire religion depends on much of that.

For the record there is very little in the Bible that is backed up by actual facts or secular historical documentation.

The entire religion depends on the continued spreading of disinformation and calumny ( the making of false and defamatory statements in order to damage someone's reputation; slander.) Just ask those who have been tortured and killed for heresy or accused of witchcraft.

Yes fake news is bad.

So how much longer will the Pope and his fellow Christians continue to spread it?

In Pope Frank's defense, i must point out that he has always had one foot in the secular world and one in the Vatican. He has been the most willing Pope, EVER, to call out secular bullshit when he sees it; i do not think he would have colluded (with silence and otherwise) with Hitler.

I have always liked this Pope above all others. Do I agree w/the Catholic faith, having been raised in it? No. But, there are some of their teachings in which I do.

    Merry Christmas, Pope Francis!

There was a time when the Vatican said pedophelia allegations against Priests and others were not true. Catholics should have demanded change or choke the Vatican off of cash. Better yet, shut those fuckers down permanently.

"“The biggest winners would be people like Mr. Trump, his family and similarly advantaged developers who make tens or hundreds of millions of dollars every year on swanky office towers and luxurious apartment buildings,” the editorial details. “An earlier version of the bill passed by the Senate provided a 23 percent deduction but put limits on its use that would prevent wealthy developers from profiting from it.”

Noting that outgoing Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) recently announced that he would vote for the bill after a provision (dubbed the “Corker kickback”) was placed in the plan that would profit him, the Times stated: ” This malodorous loophole is further confirmation that congressional leaders are doing everything they can to maximize benefits for the wealthy at the expense of almost everybody else.”

OP: "This change, if enacted, would encourage wealthy businesses to learn how to go offshore to gain a more favorable tax rate than is available within our borders -- giving them a significant financial and competitive advantage over our neighborhood mom and pops trying to stay afloat onshore."by shifting the tax code from a worldwide system to a territorial one, they would no longer have to pay any tax on repatriated foreign earnings; the US tax is simply eliminated on foreign income."Businesses would be allowed to shift profits offshore to avoid American tax rates. Essentially that means we would be creating a tremendous incentive to reassign or push profits offshore; businesses with the financial wherewithal and accounting savvy to take advantage of it could create perfectly legal tax shelters."I'm already seeing a lot of business owners, including wealthy pass-through businesses, asking about setting up businesses offshore to take advantage of a lower tax rate."

      ‘let’s shake things up’
“They didn’t start thinking of the old common fellow till just as they started out on the election tour. The money was all appropriated for the top in the hopes that it would trickle down to the needy. Mr. Hoover was an engineer. He knew that water trickles down. Put it uphill and let it go and it will reach the driest little spot. But he didn’t know that money trickled up. Give it to the people at the bottom and the people at the top will have it before night, anyhow. But it will at least have passed through the poor fellows hands. They saved the big banks, but the little ones went up the flue.”
" Every single time Republicans have gotten power and passed a tax cut, it has crippled our economy. Republicans will predictably respond that when Reagan cut taxes, we had an improved economy. What they fail to mention if they even know is that Reagan also moved $1.4 trillion of Social Security into the general fund. Congress never put the money back either. When Democrats try to clean up the mess, Republicans blame Democrats for not cleaning it up fast enough. FDR, Clinton and Obama all did remarkably well to get the economy going after disastrous Republican policies crippled our nation."Every Republican swears an OATH to Grover Norquist who serves the Koch brothers that they will never increase taxes under any circumstances."Norquist who wants our government to be so small he can, “strangle it in a bathtub.” Republicans have adopted this philosophy with a religious zeal that can only be described as cultish."
"The damage Donald Trump is doing to our democracy will take generations to repair. He promised to hire the “best people” but he has not even bothered to staff the State Department because Steve Bannon wants to destroy the “administrative state” which is again another assault on our government. In the mind of a Republican, government cannot do anything correctly and there is nothing that cannot be done better by a private business."
"Republicans have surrendered their constitutional duty to be a check on the Executive Branch. They have ignored the Trump family’s collusion with no less than 19 Russians that we know of. They initially praised Robert Mueller’s investigation but when the indictments started landing inside the White House, they accuse our own Justice Department of being corrupt and the FBI of being like the KGB."They are not the party of “family VALUE$.” rump will remove the Johnson amendment so churches can be political organization, TAXxx FREEee.
" the Republican party who used to understand that Russians were our enemies is now doing everything Putin wants by undermining the legitimacy of the Justice Department and the rule of law.

Republican allegiance is to their tribe and winning at any cost, even if that cost is this 200 year experiment called the United States of America."

"Democratic Whip, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD) laid it all out for House Republicans and warned them that America is not going to forget their passage of a bill that cuts taxes for the rich and raises them for everyone else."
"Future generations of Americans will remember who cast their votes to raise taxes on 86 million middle-class households, and heap another $1.5 trillion in deficits onto our children and to our grandchildren. They will remember who cast their votes for a plan that gives 83% of its benefits to 1% of the American people."
"We recognize, as most Americans do, that this bill is not tax reform. It is a tax giveaway to those who don’t need our help paid for by those who do. This is a reckless and dangerous deficit spending at its worse.”"

    NOW HAPPENING:
"Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Mike Lee of Utah announced formally Monday that they're both voting "yes."

As of Monday evening, GOP leaders were only waiting for GOP Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who told CNN on Monday that his position on the tax bill was "still lookin'."

Bottom line: So long as everything stays as is, GOP leaders don't need Flake to be a "yes." But they want — and expect — him to vote in favor of the bill.

A reminder: Sen. John McCain has returned home to Arizona as part of his recovery from brain cancer treatment, but his absence is not expected to prevent the legislation from advancing."
"The GOP tax plan should be on Trump's desk tomorrow
The House is expected to vote on the Republican tax plan early this afternoon, and the Senate will vote later this evening. It's expected to pass in each chamber.

That means this bill will be on President Trump's desk by Wednesday.

Trump has repeatedly urged Congress to quickly pass tax reform legislation. Last week, he said he hoped the bill would pass before Christmas."

"Mike Pence will preside over the Senate during the tax bill vote"

    1. Flake should vote NO unless he’s also getting a “bribe” like Corker.

As for McCain, his absence constitutes an abstsention. If he had the guts and the nerve to show up and vote NO like he did for the Deathcare Bill, and Flake joined him, that would kill this atrocity of a Tax Scam.

Collins should be ashamed of herself. She’ll get NOTHING for turning traitor to her constituents. She got empty promises and she’s stupid enough to believe them.

Corker is also a traitor to his constituents as the very reason he voted not before has NOT been addressed. If anything the debt will go UP considerably. Yet he’s still voting yes. I guess we all know why.

They’re all getting kickbacks and bribes in this bill. And it won’t be the last one. They’ve already said they’ll have to pass another tax bill to “fix” this one because it was put together so hastily.

Are there not two Republican Senators with enough integrity and guts to kill this disaster?
