Chuck Schumer is taking his big spending boost for Donald Trump’s border wall off the table.
The Senate minority leader, through an aide, informed the White House that he was retracting the offer he made last week to give Trump well north of the $1.6 billion in wall funding Trump had asked for this year, according to two Democrats. And now they say Trump will simply not get a better deal than that on his signature campaign promise.
Schumer “took it off,” said Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Senate Democrat. “He called the White House yesterday and said it’s over.”
After the publication of this story, a spokesman clarified that the wall offer was retracted Sunday, rather than Monday. Schumer told reporters that he withdrew his suggestion, offered midday Friday, because it was meant to be part of a broader package that would have averted a government shutdown.
Yeah, makes sense.
Especially since Trump agreed verbally to the deal put forward by the Democrats, only to do a 180 when pressured by the conservative anti-immigration Republicans.
Of course this irritated Trump who took to Twitter to complain.

It is looking more and more as if we are not going to have a deal before this next deadline on February 8th.
Which means this temporary stopgap to avoid a government shutdown may be very temporary indeed.
But hey, at least the Democrats were able to get the CHIP program back up and running.
I bet that was Schumer's plan all along.

And when Don Young said something about putting people's lives before a goose's I about threw up. It's easy to diminish something as important as our ecosystem when your ninety years old. What about the future generations?
I guess the lower 48 freezing, flooding and burning just isn't enough evidence that we are adversely affecting our own planet. Just gotta wait till we are all floatin' in boats, I guess. Not our generation but the ones down the line.

Murkowski is the very worst representative we have from Alaska. She is always in the photos w/Trump and nearby...that is her choice and physical position she takes.

I watched the sentencing on local news,175 years.
DeleteAlso the judge would only read part of his letter because he wrote about the survivors,basicly he blamed the media and mentioned hell has no fury like women scorned.
I don't know if the judge couldn't do it but there was no mention of no parole.

And good for Schumer, finally giving Trump a taste of his own medicine. Mr. Fart of the Deal doesn’t understand that when you don’t take the deal, everything is reset and you start at square one again with a clean slate.
That offer was predicated on the broad package. Trump has already agreed to and then reneged on TWO deals. He’s surprised that Schumer took the promised funding back when Trump refused the Friday deal? Well, surprise. That’s how deal making works and two can play the game.
Personally, I want the wall deal separated from DACA. Do the DACA deal first. Then the wall can be tied to other immigration reforms where it should be.
And they better have something in that DACA plan that allows those Dreamers that have already been deported to return.
While I don’t think Schumer has it in him to school Trump as he should be schooled, at least he’s showing a little backbone. About bloody time.
