Trey "Benghazi" Gowdy calls it quits. Update!

Courtesy of NBC News:

Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., who has been at the forefront of investigations into both Hillary Clinton and alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, said Wednesday he would not run for re-election, adding his name to a growing list of Republican lawmakers stepping aside.

In a lengthy statement, Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor, said he would be leaving politics for good to return to a career in the justice system.

"There is a time to come and a time to go. This is the right time, for me, to leave politics and return to the justice system," wrote Gowdy, who was first elected in 2010.

"I will not be filing for re-election to Congress nor seeking any other political or elected office; instead I will be returning to the justice system," he added. "Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress, and I enjoy our justice system more than our political system."

Yeah, well if that skill set is supposed to include the ability to differentiate between fact and fiction, then I think Gowdy is poorly qualified to practice law in any capacity.

This decision seems to have been quite recent as Gowdy's team just sent out a fundraising email for his 2018 campaign. Kind of makes you wonder what happened, doesn't it?

Trey Gowdy, along with Darrell Issa, were among the idiots that promoted exaggerated misinformation about the Benghazi attack, and then used that to attack both President Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Trey Gowdy has not an ethical bone in his body and should be treated as a pariah from this day forward.

Of course I guess he could go back to playing he banjo.

As for Democratic hopes moving forward, well as the great Freddie Mercury used to sing:

"Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust, yeah
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust"

Update: The Daily show weighs in.
One of the strangest heads of hair in Congress.

Nice try, Gryphen, but you are WRONG!!!

People are saying that Mr. Gowdy and Mr. Issa are planning to form a private enterprise called either The Gowdy Issa Group or Blue Moon Detective Agency. While the name isnt important the goal of these two Super Patriots is to privately investigate Crooked Hillary for the next 100 years if that's what it takes to get to the bottom of the Whitewater Land Deal Scandal(tm), the biggest scandal since the FBI treason scandal which is the biggest scandal since Watergate (not the Nixon Watergate but the Kennedy or Johnson Watergate. Nixon was framed in his Watergate)

Neither Issa or Gowdy is a quitter (except for the quitting Congress thing). And they WILL prove Hillary guilty of something or my name isnt J. Phineous Liverspot Plutoniace!!!

ps, my name ISNT J. Phineous Liverspot Plutoniace!!!

Au contraire, they SHOULD be in the justice system. The part that would require them to wear some very unfashionable, high contrast, horizontal stripes.

Why is he leaving now? What is he afraid of? It is something so bad he is giving up his power.Saying he wants to return to practice law yeah right. I read he was accepting campaign $ from anti-Hillary groups but there has so be more than that.

I wonder what ills Russia has on the Republican party members. I mean with Snowden as Putin's lapdog, I imagine, plenty has been given to the bald one for usage against the Americans.
Will America ever be the same again? Or will we have to accept that we have been annexed and we don't even know it. We just keep believing we are the free and the brave but I think we were sold out. Not just by Trump but by all his friends who worship the money. Putin knows how to make his friends rich. No wonder people keep jumping ship here. Before you know it, the rich will be knee deep in cash, and the rest of us will be under all of it drowning in our sorrows that we were duped.

He owns nothing, but manages to put his name on the building. A branding marketing scam of all scams. He did it by using other peoples money all over the world. His debts are due, he cant pay, and so the Russian and Chinese mob have rigged the election, placed numb nuts in charge and here we are. Sanctions galore, liars, cons, mob and Americans asking what happened. Money in politics from corporations claiming to be people, Religion in politics giving mulligans for criminal behavior, A real shitshow from the swamp and circus of liars.

This azzbag and his mob manufacturer the bengazi story and attacked secretary Clinton for no reason. So this fake fraud hateful shithead goes back a few years. Issa Nunes and him are all guilty of treason, espionage and being a traitor to the usa. In no way should he be allowed to practice law of anykind. He should be thrown out of the building today.

Rumor. Some sites are floating the rumor that Gowdy will be named the new AG. Both Nunes and Gowdy were involved in Trump’s transition team and were involved with Flynn. What better way to clear himself than become the AG and control the investigation. The Blue Wave wasn’t taking him down in his district. He had no fear of not being re-elected.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous3:57 AM

I guess in the sick Trumpian universe we now inhabit, whether willingly or not, Gowdy's "judicial" ambitions might be fulfilled. Personally, I'd only allow him in a courthouse manacled and wearing striped togs.
