Driven by outrage and a resolve to correct a power imbalance that seemed intractable just months ago, 300 prominent actresses and female agents, writers, directors, producers and entertainment executives have formed an ambitious, sprawling initiative to fight systemic sexual harassment in Hollywood and in blue-collar workplaces nationwide.
The initiative includes:
— A legal defense fund, backed by $13 million in donations, to help less privileged women— like janitors, nurses and workers at farms, factories, restaurants and hotels — protect themselves from sexual misconduct and the fallout from reporting it.
— Legislation to penalize companies that tolerate persistent harassment, and to discourage the use of nondisclosure agreements to silence victims.
— A drive to reach gender parity at studios and talent agencies that has already begun making headway.
— And a request that women walking the red carpet at the Golden Globes speak out and raise awareness by wearing black.
Called Time’s Up, the movement was announced on Monday with an impassioned pledge of support to working-class women in an open letter signed by hundreds of women in show business, many of them A-listers. The letter also ran as a full-page ad in The New York Times, and in La Opinion, a Spanish-language newspaper.
“The struggle for women to break in, to rise up the ranks and to simply be heard and acknowledged in male-dominated workplaces must end; time’s up on this impenetrable monopoly,” the letter says.
During the holidays my mother asked me what I thought it was that triggered the #MeToo movement.
I told her that was simple, Donald Trump.
My mom thought it was the Harvey Weinstein scandal, but I told her that Harvey Weinsten would very likely have kept right on treating women like shit and getting away with it, if women had not been shocked, angered, and mobilized by an admitted abuser of women defeating the first viable female candidate for the job of president.
That was why the day after the inauguration we saw women lead the biggest protest in this country's history, and that is why we are seeing women coming together to not only protect themselves from the Donald Trump's of this world, but to chase them out of positions of power and influence forever.
Time Magazine had it exactly right when they chose the #MeToo movement for their "Person of the Year," and I think we are only seeing the very beginning of what this movement is capable of achieving.
More women than every before are entering politics, and I am telling you that chances are far more than just 50/50 that the next President of the United States will be female.
This is going to be the era of the woman, and you can take that to the bank.
Christian group faces backlash after featuring ‘brainwashed’ ex-lesbian in ‘disgusting’ viral video
ReplyDelete...“This is inhumane and brainwashing. Truly disgusting. Born gay, born a sinner? What in the world. No one should feel ashamed for who they are,” another wrote.

They need to launch a project to get all the a listers to stop doing cocaine and orgies. Ahem Cameron Diaz who is infamous in Miami for snorting.
ReplyDeleteFuck off, Alicia. Go create another 500 fake social media profiles to stalk people who hate you.

DeleteUm, cocaine and orgies are perfectly fine amongst consenting adults and have nothing in common with the "metoo" movement.
Don't get out much, do you?
Every woman joining this movement and especially the next female presidential nominee owes a big debt of gratitude to Hillary Clinton (among many other women) for all she has done to pave the way for this.
ReplyDeleteThis situation wouldn't exist if young women hadn't dropped the ball. Our mothers very recently fought long and hard for things like the right to their own name and bank account, for the right to not be expected to encase their bodies in nylon and plastic and walk on stilts to be attractive to their provider, the right to take any university course and any job they were qualified for, for childcare and decent education and much much more... and what do they now find? Men attacking women left, right and center, women competing to look like hookers, the President of the United States publicly boasting about getting away with habitual sexual assault and politicians doing all they can to return women to their status as empty accommodating vessels.
DeleteAnd still no equal pay.
Oh, don't get me started.
Iceland just became the 1st EQUAL PAY!
DeleteHappy New Era!
As long as it's not Gillibrand or Harris, that's fine. If it's anyone that railroaded Franken without his due process, they're not getting my vote.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel. I was personally heartbroken by Kirsten Gillibrand's actions because I've been her supporter since she was elected to the US Senate- and I never believed and still don't that Al Franken had any particular need to resign- but I'll be voting for who I think can win the presidency and my feelings won't count at all. I would never do anything to risk a Republican win. Ever. Kirsten Gillibrand on her worst day is better than any ten Republicans in history.
DeleteMy only consolation is that this may all be part of a bigger DNC picture- it was such a well orchestrated fait accompli that one can only be suspicious that something else is going on.
Donald Trump wants his legacy to be when he made America great. Whatever that means in his head. But I think his presidency will be remembered for when he was a pussy grabber and women fought back.

damn funny
Yeah the election was rigged against Hillary by widdle men. She beat the chit out of them as don the con would say. She Won. And she keeps winning as don shows the world who he is. Majority of men are gentlemen but it is the few that lack manners, self discipline and self respect that bully women, children, men, and animals. The me too blue collar women suffer financially, physically, emotionally, and usually with children in tow. It boils down to teaching your children from birth manners and respect for others. She must explain why she stayed or left the job, abuse to her children, family and to the Judge. So the example starts at home, teach your sons and daughters and then to our educators, teach our children. We can do better today. Everyone should be thankful for this awareness and effort to help. #metoo

With Chief Justice Roberts on board, maybe 2018 is a New Era...
ReplyDeleteA most awesome 80th birthday present this month!
ReplyDeleteTHANKYOU! THANKYOU! tHANKYOU!
And to think $48 million of taxpayer money going for Don Johns Golf vacations. And the government shuts down on 18th? Lets shut it down and cut don off completely. 2 trillion added to the republican debt. And don the illegitimate person wants more of your money and his debts grow
ReplyDeleteI agree with all you say, Gryphen, except this : 'chances are far more than just 50/50 that the next President of the United States will be female.'
ReplyDeleteI still do not believe that - at this point in time. Our election system is still too rigged, too gerrymandered by the GOP, and we still have too many stepford Wifesmthat do what the church and their husbands say. Maybe it will change after this next election this November, but I will not hold my breath.
Besides, the next President will have a heckuva time to try to correct/undo the damage this a$$hole has done. (Look at the fights President Obama had in order to get anything done, even though he fought valiantly.)
IF we even see a next election and will not have been annihilated by nuclear war.
Or martial law.
DeleteWhen the US elects the first female president, she will be a republican.
ReplyDelete300 prominent actors and only 13 million raised?
