Anti-LGBTQ preacher suggests that USA Gymnastics doctor's sexual abuse of his patients was due to the immodesty of the sport.

Courtesy of Right Wing Watch:

On his radio program today, extremist anti-LGBTQ pastor Kevin Swanson attributed USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar’s sexual abuse of more than 150 women and girls he treated, in part, to the fact that gymnastics encourages “a fair amount of immodesty.”

Citing a variety of supposed dangers, such as the use of open showers, Swanson warned Christian parents against allowing their children to participate in sports because “sports tend to focus on the body.”

“There is an infatuation with the body,” he said, “and, of course, the sexual aspects of the body as well. Some sports encourage immodesty, revealing large portions of the body and this happens in some sports. These are the risky sports. Here they are, what are the risky sports? Gymnastics. Gymnastics and swimming. These are the sports in which there is an added risk.”

“Why are all of the gymnasts [at] more of a risk than other sports?” Swanson asked. “Do you really want your daughters involved in a sport that involves a fair amount of immodesty in which red-blooded American male coaches are interacting with these girls? Or, worse yet, where the infatuation of the body eventually effects the lesbian coaches?”

Swanson went on to suggest that Nassar was brought to justice because, “God is not going to put up with 20 years of this.”

So what, five, ten, or fifteen years is perfectly acceptable, but not 20?

Is that where "God" draws the line?

First off the uniforms typically worn by female gymnasts are in no way the most revealing in the Olympics.

Some of the shorts worn by the female track and field competitors are barely even there, and don't get me started about the beach volleyball competitors.

But once again, so what?

The sports these athletes participate in require freedom of movement, and clothing that does not bind or interfere in their sport.

If a man finds that erotic in any way, that is entirely beside the point.

And it in NO WAY excuses a person from sexually assaulting or victimizing ANYONE.

I was a gymnastic coach for over four years, and ran a program that included young college age women working with children ages five to twelve.

I was literally surrounded by some of the most fit and attractive young women in the state.

And yet every one of my interactions with them was purely professional. And I was very careful to keep in that way.

I was well aware that I was in a position of authority, and conducted myself appropriately at all times.

Because THAT is what you do.

I also once worked, very briefly, as the bouncer at a strip club.

And even in that setting I did not objectify my coworkers or do anything to make them feel uneasy in my presence.

Because once again, THAT is what you do.

Besides this man was a doctor, so of course he saw these young women without any clothing at all, which renders this entire defense ridiculous.

Not to mention that some of Nassar's victims were children, so how does the "immodesty" of gymnastics excuse that?

No, being a man, unable to control his base impulses, cannot be excused by any claims of "immodesty" or blamed on the victims in any way.

Dr. Nassar is solely responsible for his actions, and he got what he deserved for them.

    1. Some Lib got raked over the coals for saying something along those lines.

Of course, it was taken out of context and deliberately so to make a point that wasn't being made. Now If I could remember who said it.

These so called preachers are the horniest in America and the world. Sooner or later they get caught with their hands down one of their followers undies.
And isn't the way of the predator to blame the victim? Our so called president is doing that right now.

Yep. This idit "pastor" might want to look up Hyles Anderson Church, where all the women wore mid-calf length dresses. He still took a teen from that congregation, wearing that modest clothing, over state lines for sex.

The most users of online porn are in the Old South of the USA; and most of them are "Jesus Cheaters" who "sow their wild oats on Saturday nights and then pray loudly for a crop failure on Sunday mornings." (Thanks for that info from my little ol' Okie mama)

  5. Once again a man's failure to control himself is blamed on women.

Isn't that what Sharia and the Taliban use as an excuse to cover women in burkas? Men have such little self control that if they see so much as a bare ankle they'll go mad and rape everything in site?

Steve Bannon is attacking the #metoo movement as anti-patriarchy and it is going to "undo" two thousand years of, I don't know, progress? history? advances? Some such shit.

I say given where we are now maybe it's time to return to the matriarchy and give them a few thousand years to show us what they've got. Couldn't be any worse.

(Oh, and watch the women of the #metoo movement get accused of sexual abuse, etc. Because the only defense these scum have is the "everyone does it" attack and target the women. After all, it got rid of Al Franken, didn't it?)

    1. No I agree with that, you're right.

I was speaking of my own conduct while I worked there.

Strip clubs were really not my thing, I only worked there out of desperation as it was the first place that I applied to that offered be a job, and I only worked there until another job became available.

I've had other jobs that I am not terribly proud of as well.

Takes women more than willing to objectify themselves to keep them open, else there would be none.

Years ago I went to a strip club with a friend (I am female, friend is male). But I concur with your sentiments. While it CAN provide a GOOD living, is it worth it? Though honestly, isn't morality manmade? So who's to call anything bad or immoral?

Thirty years ago I went to a strip club down the street with my husband out of curiosity/what the hell and sat in the front row. Mark on abdomen, "did you have a C-section?" because I had two. Nope, quarter roll. Want to see me do it? UGH.

To think that this is all these women have, good money or not. I'd scrub a thousand floors $$ before even thinking about it, but to each their own.

Strip clubs are great for empowering women to parade around and dance nude so men can hoot, holler and pay them extra for sexual favors. What's not to love?

One, there are women who enjoy stripping. Two, there are women who enjoy posing nude, as strippers or for art's sake. And nudity displayed does NOT mean "come fuck.me." adults understand that, new to hormones teen boys may not. Guess we know this idiot pastor's mental age.

And BTW Gryph, as a former cocktail waitress, I've never felt more safe, or treated with more respect than from the bouncers and coolers at some of the roughest clubs from NYC to Chicago. Wouldn't work at a club where the management and security didn't believe the girls. Best bars to work at where all it took was a nod towards a table or barstool occupant that got "handsy" or smart mouth, and one of the bouncer would walk over and say, the lady said you... You might want to leave now. Followed by some forceful incentive if that suggestion wasn't promptly acted on.

  9. Nassar has a Muslimy sounding name. In Kaintuck, Drumpf and McCTurtle buddy got 20 years for 19 counts of sex with minors. His name wasn't Muslimy sounding, though.

My heartfelt condolences to the Kernell family. I can not fathom losing a child, at any age, and can only imagine the sorrow. I am so sorry for their loss. As the Kernell family said, the 2008 incident does not define David. He went on to do good for his family and community. I would ask the public to let David’s good memory supersede anything else. My family and I pray that David's family is enveloped in peace, knowing God has their son, awaiting a reunion someday.

I would tell this pastor that to completely follow through on his line of thinking, since doctors are in the business of dealing with naked bodies, and since the vast majority if not ALL cases of doctors molesting their patients involve male doctors, then "the American red-blooded male" should not be allowed to work in the medical profession. Because, of course, red-blooded American males simply cannot control their God-given urges to have sex with females, whether they're 60 yrs. old or 6 yrs. old. Men just gotta be men, so we need to pass laws to make sure that these "natural urges" don't sully the value of our virgin daughters, right Pastor Swenson?

I'll bet this "preacher" will be found to be molesting children or fucking the females in his parish eventually. Or tapping his feet in some airport bathroom. These anti-LGBT types are more often than not closet gays. All part of their self-loathing.
