Conservatives freakout as Twitter purges Russian bots and they suddenly lose hundreds, and even thousands of followers.

Courtesy of Metro:

Today, our thoughts and prayers are with the #MAGA brigade, as they howl in despair after half their Twitter followers vanished overnight.

The reason? Those ‘cruel leftist libs’ at Twitter just purged a load of Russian bots, it seems – leading (hilariously) to right-wing Tweeters losing their sh*t.

They think it’s some kind of left-wing conspiracy, whereas in fact, Twitter appears to have just deleted a bunch of non-existent fascists controlled from St Petersburg.

Not seeming to realise the irony, many are sharing their agony online with the hashtag #TwitterLockout.

It's not polite to point and laugh at the stupid, but come on this is almost too good to be true.

However as we LOL at their expense, let's also take a moment to realize just how big this Russian operation truly was.

I mean some of these are just regular idiots on Twitter, NOT celebrities or big name politicians.

If they lost hundreds and even thousands of Twitter followers, what does that tell us about just how many fake accounts the Russians actually created, not just on Twitter, but on ALL social media platforms?

Here was how one Trump supporter reacted to learning that she had been manipulated by the Russians.
Can you say "cognitive dissonance?"

    1. Wouldn't be the first time. He's lost followers every time Twitter purges the bots and fake accounts.

I wonder too. I noticed the 'likes' in this latest tweetfart shitstorm of his over the weekend were way lower than in the past, and he's had them purged before.

When you click on Palin's Twitter followers loads are fake accounts who have no profile & follow the same people. Paul Ryan, Trump's LMAO Scott Baio. These are paid followers.

This woman doesn't understand what the reporter is saying.

She thinks he's trying to tell her that her "friends" are Russians. She's probably imagining the stereotypical, standing in the breadline wearing a threadbare coat and a scarf over her head type of Russian babushka, and she's just NOT HAVING IT!!

What is it? Like the most popular kid in junior high/high school? I never did get twitter; Facebook is bad enough. "My every thought to YOU from me." Lots of self-important people out there.

  8. They're gone because they never existed. They were vapor followers. Fake people.

    What is not to understand?

I think this is more about embarrassment that so many russian bots were following their accounts.

How many followers did Michael Moore lose? You know the Russians were probably keeping tabs on him, Al Franken and others just to mess with them.

What do Alex Jones and Sean Hannity have to say about their loss of followers?

Some of the middle aged and older crowd use FB as if it's infallible. I just think a lot of this older crowd have no clue about the intertubes and don't understand how to filter out fake news.
FYI. I'm middle aged but I have a job that keeps me on the forefront of social media and journalism.
Some of my friends, sadly, are a lot more naive about the information they ingest. I've had to make clear and simple arguments about what they should consider dog whistle statements meant to churn discord by what are most likely bots or trolls.

Btw, there is no drama between Bristol and Dakota just like there was no drama the first time. NEITHER of them pursue media regarding TRUTHFUL private details nor do their friends.

  13. One of the disgusting messages sent to a Douglas School student sounded to me like a bot message. And that reminded me of the all the God Save You, You Good Mother messages that Sarah gets, and now I'm thinking, hmmmm, are all her followers bots also?

CNN should have insisted on showing an excerpt from Dana Loesch's NRA videos before allowing her to speak. The woman is a viciously evil monster, and she shouldn't be allowed to show only her human form.

  17. More indictments from Mueller!

"New sealed criminal charges have been filed in federal court in the criminal case brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller against President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort and campaign aide Rick Gates, a court record indicated on Wednesday.

The single-page document, filed at the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, did not reveal the nature of the new charges.

Its inclusion in a binder in the court clerk’s office that is routinely updated with new criminal charges signals that Mueller’s office may have filed a superseding indictment replacing a previous one from last year against the two men."

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/paul-manafort-special-counsel_us_5a8dcf9ee4b03414379ceb8e

"Last Friday, Mueller’s office revealed in a court filing that it had uncovered “additional criminal conduct” by Manafort in connection with a series of “bank frauds and bank fraud conspiracies” related to a mortgage on his property in Fairfax, Virginia, a Washington suburb."

"Mueller on Tuesday stepped up pressure on Manafort and Gates to cooperate in his investigation, unsealing a criminal charge against a Dutch lawyer, Alex van der Zwaan, for lying to Mueller’s investigators.

The charge arises from work that van der Zwaan, the son-in-law of one of Russia’s richest men, did on a 2012 report about the trial of Ukraine’s former prime minister while he was employed as a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP."

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-dems-defended-election-integrity-until-lost-133614757--politics.html

"A 33-year-old attorney fired last year by a prominent international law firm became the fourth person to plead guilty in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, admitting Tuesday that he lied to federal investigators about his contacts with a Trump campaign official.

Alex van der Zwaan, who worked at the law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, admitted in Washington's federal court Tuesday to making false statements about his interactions with former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates. His plea deal may allow him to avoid prison."

"But the charge against the attorney, who is also the son-in-law of a Russian billionaire, does not involve election meddling or relate to the Trump campaign's operations. Instead, it stems from the special counsel's investigation into Paul Manafort, Trump's former campaign chair, and Gates, who is a longtime business associate of Manafort."

SON IN LAW OF A RUSSIAN BILLIONAIRE!

"The false statements van der Zwaan admitted to making involved the timing of his last communication with Gates and a person, described as "Person A," who was a longtime business associate of Manafort and Gates in Ukraine."

"Last year, van der Zwaan married the daughter of Ukrainian-Russian billionaire German Khan, according to the Russian editions of Forbes and Tatler magazines.

Khan, who was born in Kiev, shares control of one of Russia's biggest financial and industrial investment conglomerates, Alfa Group, with fellow billionaires Mikhail Fridman and Alexei Kuzmichev. Forbes estimates Khan is worth about $10 billion.

Khan and his partners are suing Buzzfeed News over its publication of a dossier of allegations about ties between Trump and Russia. The dossier, which is a collection of memoranda authored by former British spy Christopher Steele, makes several claims about Alfa Group that the partners say are false and defamatory."

And there's the link to the Steele Dossier.
