Donald Trump misrepresented a New York Times story in order to attack his own intelligence agencies.

So that was the Trump tweet from from Friday.

Today this is tweeted out by former sepcial counsel Ryan Goodman.
Well that is all well and good to point out that Trump is using false information to smear American intelligence agencies, but Goodman failed to note that Trump completely misrepresented what the Times story said.

Here is the pertinent portion:

After months of secret negotiations, a shadowy Russian bilked American spies out of $100,000 last year, promising to deliver stolen National Security Agency cyberweapons in a deal that he insisted would also include compromising material on President Trump, according to American and European intelligence officials.

The cash, delivered in a suitcase to a Berlin hotel room in September, was intended as the first installment of a $1 million payout, according to American officials, the Russian and communications reviewed by The New York Times. The theft of the secret hacking tools had been devastating to the N.S.A., and the agency was struggling to get a full inventory of what was missing.

Several American intelligence officials said they made clear that they did not want the Trump material from the Russian, who was suspected of having murky ties to Russian intelligence and to Eastern European cybercriminals. He claimed the information would link the president and his associates to Russia. Instead of providing the hacking tools, the Russian produced unverified and possibly fabricated information involving Mr. Trump and others, including bank records, emails and purported Russian intelligence data.

The United States intelligence officials said they cut off the deal because they were wary of being entangled in a Russian operation to create discord inside the American government. They were also fearful of political fallout in Washington if they were seen to be buying scurrilous information on the president.

Now of course I have no sources to prove the accuracy of this reporting, or to discredit it. But it should be noted that the article does NOT say that the intelligence agencies were shopping around for dirt on Trump.

In fact they were trying very hard NOT to access any potential dirt on Trump.

What they were after was to get back the stolen NSA cyber weapons that have made it so easy for the Russians to hack agencies and businesses here in America.

Now if the intelligence agencies were tricked out of $100,000 dollars in pursuit of those, that could be a story in an of itself.

But this article clearly states that the agencies were wary of stumbling onto any potentially information about Trump's ties to Russia, and aborted the mission in order to escape entanglement.

Neither one of the above tweets reflect accurately the contents of the actual article.

" “I think we’re doing and taking every step we can to protect classified information,” Sanders snarled. “I mean, frankly, if you guys have such concern with classified information, there’s plenty of it that’s leaked out of the Hill, that’s leaked out of other communities, well beyond the White House walls. If you guys have real concerns about leaking out classified information, look around this room. You guys are the ones that publish classified information and put national security at risk,” Sanders said, taking aim at every reporter in the room."

Sen. Jack Reed just got FBI Director Wray and other intel chiefs to admit that the president has never asked them to focus on or disrupt Russian election meddling.

Sarah Sanders is at her worst at a strange time — when she’s talking about respect for women

    She dripped disdain.

    She oozed contempt.

“If you were paying attention to what I just read to you . . .” she huffed, like an exasperated teacher reprimanding a classroom troublemaker.

Sarah Huckabee Sanders was responding — though not really — to a reporter’s question that she claimed to have answered multiple times already.

Watching the press secretary at Monday’s briefing, the words that came to mind were these: A new low.

Yes, a new rock bottom from the podium at the Trump White House press briefing.

And that is really saying something, given the lying-from-day-one reign of Sean Spicer, along with Sanders’s own fulsome history of dissembling, and the 10-day flameout of Anthony Scaramucci last summer.

But she did it. Time after time Monday, Sanders stuck to her pallid script, repeating without elaboration the words she said the president had told her to say, expressing his supposed support for domestic violence victims, although just days before he seemed much more sympathetic to those accused of abuse, specifically his deposed aide Rob Porter.

Sarah Sanders whines about former aide’s abused ex-wife calling her out

...The defensive posturing from Sanders came just hours after FBI director Christopher Wray, in sworn congressional testimony, made it clear the White House has been lying about how they handled Porter.

He testified that the investigation into Porter had been completed, while Sanders and the White House have insisted that they did not act on the accused aide because an investigation was not complete.

Porter was allowed to operate in the White House and was given access to classified material, even as these determinations had already been made by intelligence agencies and presented to Trump.

Instead of admitting to a mistake, owning up to how they have mishandled a sensitive situation and insulted the women here and women across the country, Sanders chose a different path. She went on defense, made the story about herself, and continued Trump’s ongoing attacks against women.

  11. Okay. So Trump misrepresented what the Times Story said.

Why is Trump using the "fake news" New York Times at all? (answer, because it suits his purpose but still.)

Our athletes are winning gold medals and he hasn't tweeted congratulations to them once. He is still fixated on Mueller, undermining the First Amendment and destroying the governmental agencies that keep this country safe. That's TREASON.

How does one "get back" a cyber weapon? Does the person returning it pinky-swear that all backups have been scrubbed, all listings have been shredded and burned, and this is really, truly, honestly, the only copy?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

    Caught in yet more lies!

The timeline that Kelly and the White House have been claiming for the Porter background check was contradicted in testimony given today by FBI Director Christopher Wray to the Senate Intelligence Committee. The (first) final background check was completed IN JULY!

"According to Wray, 'the FBI submitted a partial report on the investigation in question in March, and then a completed background investigation in late July.'

Wray added the department later 'received requests for follow-up inquiry, and we did the follow-up and provided that information in November and we administratively closed the file in January.' "

  15. Speaking of attacking his own intelligence agencies, Christopher Wray, head of the FBI just exposed Trump as a LIAR.

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-rob-porter-fbi-christopher-wray_us_5a831c42e4b01467fcf24a7a

"The White House’s attempts to explain why it allowed a top aide accused of domestic violence by both of his ex-wives to keep his job took another hit on Tuesday, this time from FBI Director Christopher Wray.

President Donald Trump’s other top aides have been claiming that they did not know about the domestic violence allegations against former staff secretary Rob Porter until recently and that they did not appreciate the full extent of the accusations until photographs of one woman’s injuries were published by news outlets.

But Wray, who was named to that job by Trump, told the Senate Intelligence Committee that the FBI had given the White House a preliminary report on Porter nearly a year ago.

“I can’t get into the content of what was briefed,” he said in response to a question from Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.). “What I can tell you is that the FBI submitted a partial report on the investigation in question in March and then a completed background investigation in late July.”

Wray added that the FBI “soon thereafter” received a request for a follow-up from the White House, which it completed and returned in November."

So they knew. They all knew. And they are fucking liars.

But Wray didn't stop there. He's basically telling his people to ignore Cadet Bone Spurs.

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-fbi-tweets-christopher-wray_us_5a830df2e4b01467fcf21c07

"Asked about President Donald Trump’s assertion that the FBI’s reputation is “in tatters,” the man Trump picked to head the bureau said Tuesday that he encourages FBI employees to ignore “the noise” on social media and on television.

“There’s no shortage of opinions about our agency,” FBI Director Christopher Wray said in response to a question from Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. “My experience has been that every office I go to, every division I go to, has patriots: people who could do anything else with their careers, but choose to work for the FBI because they believe in serving others.” "

I have a feeling there is a lot of "ignoring" going on by the adults in our government.

Russia Is Trying to Bury This Video—And Might Shut Down YouTube to Do It

An investigation into a deputy prime minister, escorts, and a yacht sends regulators scrambling.

Last week, a 25-minute video published by Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny alleging a new link between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign made headlines around the world. Now the Russian government wants it scrubbed from the internet—so much so that it is taking steps that could block millions of its own citizens from using YouTube or Instagram.

The video was released last Thursday and accused Russian Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Prikhodko—a top foreign policy official—of having been a conduit between the Kremlin and Oleg Deripaska, an oligarch linked to the Trump campaign. In making his case, Navalny mined the autobiography and Instagram feeds of Nastya Rybka, a Russian model and escort who claims to be Deripaska’s mistress. Drawing on video and audio Rybka posted that captured her, Deripaska, and Prikhodko relaxing on a yacht while the two men discuss US-Russia relations, Navalny’s video alleges that Deripaska hosted Prikhodko for a secret meeting at sea in the company of several female escorts. Deripaska immediately denied the claim and threatened to sue media outlets reporting on it, assailing the video as a “planned campaign aiming to damage my reputation.”

The day after the video’s publication, Deripaska won a court injunction requiring it—along with six other videos and 14 Instagram posts—to be taken down. The court, in Deripaska’s native Krasnodar region, found that the posts violated his right to privacy and ordered that they must come down.

As a result, Roskomnadzor—Russia’s communications regulator—added the YouTube videos and Instagram posts to its list of prohibited websites, giving internet providers until Wednesday to blacklist the URLs. But, as Russian news startup the Bell explains, many Russian internet providers don’t have the technical ability to selectively block particular URLs. To comply with the Roskomnadzor order, they’ll instead have to block access to YouTube and Instagram entirely—unless the owners of the offending posts opt to delete them independently.

Trump Snuck These Anti-Environment Measures Into His Infrastructure Plan

In many different ways, this infrastructure plan seeks to privatize some public lands and ensures that the fossil fuel infrastructure remains on them. Natural Resources Defense Council’s legislative director Scott Slesinger says Trump is “using the infrastructure bill as another attack on the environment.”

Here are four of the ways that he does:

"The incredible, harrowing account of how American democracy was hacked by Moscow as part of a covert operation to influence the U.S. election and help Donald Trump gain the presidency.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE is a story of political skullduggery unprecedented in American history. It weaves together tales of international intrigue, cyber espionage, and superpower rivalry. After U.S.-Russia relations soured, as Vladimir Putin moved to reassert Russian strength on the global stage, Moscow trained its best hackers and trolls on U.S. political targets and exploited WikiLeaks to disseminate information that could affect the 2016 election.

The Russians were wildly successful and the great break-in of 2016 was no "third-rate burglary." It was far more sophisticated and sinister -- a brazen act of political espionage designed to interfere with American democracy. At the end of the day, Trump, the candidate who pursued business deals in Russia, won. And millions of Americans were left wondering, what the hell happened? This story of high-tech spying and multiple political feuds is told against the backdrop of Trump's strange relationship with Putin and the curious ties between members of his inner circle -- including Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn -- and Russia.

RUSSIAN ROULETTE chronicles and explores this bizarre scandal, explains the stakes, and answers one of the biggest questions in American politics: How and why did a foreign government infiltrate the country's political process and gain influence in Washington?"

Remember Juli Briskman, the cyclist that got fired for flipping the bird to Trump's motorcade?

She started a GoFundMe page for Jordon Dyrdahl-Roberts.

He's a law clerk that quit his job rather than process paperwork for ICE that would lead to deportations.

That's what I call paying it forward.

    https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/trump-daca-immigrants-dyrdahl-roberts_us_5a8310a5e4b0892a0353acfa

"Jordon Dyrdahl-Roberts made headlines last Wednesday when he tweeted that he’d quit his government job rather than process paperwork that could lead to the arrest and deportation of undocumented immigrants.

Now he’s broke and out of work. But his stand against President Donald Trump’s treatment of immigrant families has inspired hundreds of people to reach out and say thanks ― and to set up a GoFundMe page for him. In a matter of days, as of Tuesday, they had raised more than $11,000 to help Dyrdahl-Roberts regain financial footing. "

"Ironically, the person who set up his fundraising page is Juli Briskman, who got fired last fall for flipping off Trump’s motorcade in a photo that went viral. Strangers rallied around “she-ro” Briskman and raised tens of thousands of dollars to help her out, too.

Briskman told HuffPost on Tuesday that she decided to set up a GoFundMe page for Dyrdahl-Roberts after she saw his tweets about quitting his job and felt like they resonated with her concerns about Trump’s “creeping authoritarianism.”

“Jordon stood his ground and said I’m not going do this. He resigned his job. He did it at a risk to his family, perhaps his career. I thought, ‘This guy is taking a stand and someone needs to support him,’” said Briskman. “People called me brave, but I think he is way more brave than me.”"
