Former Donald Trump campaign deputy Rick Gates is quickly discovering that cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller has its advantages.
The lead Russia investigator asked a federal court in Alexandria, Virginia Tuesday to dismiss a series of criminal charges against Gates, including tax and bank fraud, in exchange for his guilty plea and testimony in the wider probe into the 2016 presidential election.
Gates also secured another win on Tuesday when a different judge granted his request to take his children to Boston next week for their spring break — well outside the 110-mile corridor between his home in Richmond and Washington that he’d previously been confined to for his travels.
The additional leniency comes after Gates agreed to a plea deal last Friday with Mueller that stipulates he must cooperate “in any and all matters” that the special counsel’s office decides are “relevant.”
Well this is certainly not something you get for nothing, so Gates must be singing a very entertaining tune for Mueller and his investigators.
And THAT does not bode well for Paul Manafort, who so far has stubbornly refused to cooperate.
But how long can he really hold out at this point?
All I know is that if I were Donald Trump I would be tossing and turning at night.

(Because hello, Trump said that is where all the bodies are buried?) I am sure they are all sleeping very soundly - visions of presidential pardons dancing in their heads - only reason treason-trump hasn't done it yet is no reason too - but when pushed up against the wall he will (and a pardon for himself too I'm sure) -- yes I am hoping there are state charges for each and every one of them (that can't be pardoned) - but I'm not holding my breath that even if there are it means more then a tiny slap on the wrist

DeleteAnd I love that it's been made very clear today that Mueller is working on pinning down if Trump knew about the email hack before the public knew. Several things point to it, but Mueller needs to get one confirming statement.
ReplyDeleteOT, but I'm puking right now as I listen to this bi-partisan gun round table with Trump acting as if he knows everything--and interrupting the senators to insert what he wants to (same old ideas about hardening schools and at the same time how people inside need guns in case people can't get in to help) even when it's not directly connected to their own points. But no one, not a single Dem, is talking about doing anything about the actual guns, about the semiautomatic weapons. What the hell? Background checks, etc. are fine, but what about the weapon types themselves? God, and one senator talked about how the majority of the killers are young white men with suicidal tendencies. So they go in expecting to die. That is a fact. But Trump's argument is that they are cowards and if they knew that people with guns would shoot at them then they'd not try to even enter a school—that is not true when you’re talking about people with suicidal tendencies. Anyway, what has me most pissed is that no one is talking about limiting weapon types. Maybe the Dems are holding off on that because they want something, anything, to start happening and they’ll shift to limiting gun types later, but I want the subject talked about now. The teens are talking about it. The adults need to, too. Feinstein briefly mentioned a ban, but it was a very generic phrasing and nothing more. She handed some info to Trump on TV so that everyone could see that he got it, but I want there to be some loud follow-up on this part of the subject.
ReplyDeleteFinally, at then very end of the meeting, Feinstein asked Trump what he's going to get done re the weapon types. She gave gun examples. Trump, of course, doesn't even want to get into that part of things--it's the one thing the NRA will oppose no matter what else they're willing compromise on--so he just said she'll have to talk to Toomey and Manchin (they have a bill) on that. I'm glad she got that piece of info in at the end.
