The Florida school shooting survivor who confronted Marco Rubio about taking NRA money has been forced off of Facebook by death threats.

Courtesy of The Hill:

A survivor of the mass shooting at a Florida high school last week says he has left Facebook after receiving death threats for his gun control advocacy.

"Temporarily got off Facebook because there’s no character count so the death threats from the @NRA cultists are a bit more graphic than those on twitter," Cameron Kasky tweeted. "Will be back when I have the time for it. Busy getting my feelings hurt by fellow teenagers at Br**tb*rt."

Kasky, a junior at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, has become an outspoken leader of the nationwide student-led movement for gun restrictions in the wake of the shooting, where 17 of his classmates and faculty members were killed.

The high schooler challenged Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R) during a CNN town hall discussion with lawmakers and fellow survivors on gun laws.

“In the name of 17 people, you cannot ask the NRA to keep their money out of your campaign?” Kasky asked Rubio.

To threaten the life of a child is shitty enough, but to threaten the life of a kid who just survived a school shooting where over a dozen of his peers were murdered is extra shitty.

What the fuck is wrong with these people?

I think this young man and his schoolmates are inspiring, but I certainly understand why they scare the crap out of the NRA.

And they should be scared:

The students who survived a mass shooting at their Florida high school last week have raised more than $3.5 million since the attack and say they plan to put the money toward a “long-term effort” to reform gun laws.

More than 18,000 people have donated nearly $1.5 million to the “Never Again” campaign and the upcoming March For Our Lives, both of which were organized by survivors of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., according to the Miami Herald.

Those donations were followed by a $500,000 donation from George and Amala Clooney, who also plan to participate in the pro-gun control march in Washington, D.C., next month.

The Clooneys’ donation was followed by matching donations from Oprah Winfrey, Steven Spielberg and Hollywood producer Jeffrey Katzenberg.

A spokeswoman for March For Our Lives told the Herald that the $3.5 million raised will first be used to help fund the event in Washington and remaining funds will be put toward the “long-term” gun control effort.

I saw a tweet awhile back that simply said 'These kids will save all of us."

I thought that was a little much at the time, but perhaps that person had a point.

I remember coming of age in the Vietnam War.
    WTF is this???

They are right to speak up and LOUDLY.

Anyone see the playful mascot fight in the stands Olympics? My reply to that on another site was, "they should have brought in the American eagle. Here's your mascot...USA! USA! USA! because we're used to taking over other countries and losing."

What has violence and war EVER taught???
    More of the same.

Appearing with Fox Business host Neil Cavuto, a military analyst for the network schooled the host and viewers on what an AR-15 can do to a body before calling hardcore 2nd Amendment advocates ‘pathetic’ for putting guns before children’s lives.

According to Lt. Col. Ralph Peters, who recently wrote a New York Post column criticizing the proliferation of assault weapons in the U.S., the Ar-15 is a weapon of war solely designed for killing other people and not for sport shooting.

“I’m a gun owner. I know guns. My family’s a gun family, however these weapons, these AR-15s and similar weapons, are not for sporting purposes,” Peters told the host. “Having those weapons in civilian hands is absolute madness.”

“The purpose of the AR-15 series is to kill and maim people,” Peters continued. “They certainly kill, but beyond that, when they hit you .. it’s meant to just tear the body apart so the wounded person can’t get up and fight again.”.

“Why on earth should we have weapons that kill children––the AR-15 is used again and again, it’s the weapon of choice for domestic terrorists,” he added.

Asked if he was calling for gun confiscation, Peters, simply replied, “It’s pathetic that we have to get to that level. It’s pathetic that we’re so wrapped up around AR-15s that we don’t want to protect children.”

When it comes to guns, the Parkland shooting survivors aren’t here to play nice

...The students have been bold, confrontational and even abrasive, rarely holding back their anger, even if it means disrespecting their older, establishment opponents. They say what they mean.

"Honestly, just using brutal honesty — that's it," said student David Hogg, one of the movement's most prominent voices. "I know people are saying it's intense. I would argue the opposite. We're fighting for these kids that died because they can't fight anymore. We're really trying to get justice for them.

"Everybody deals with grief in a different way. For me, it's anger, and wanting to prevent whatever caused it from happening again," Hogg said.

The students' stridency has added pressure on lawmakers and kept the shooting from fading from the headlines.

It has also insulted right-wing adversaries several times, including by implying gun rights supporters have the 17 deaths at Stoneman Douglas on their hands.

"Sen. Rubio, it's hard to look at you and not look down a barrel of an AR-15 and not look at Nikolas Cruz," student activist Cameron Kasky told Rubio at CNN's Wednesday night town hall with students, parents and lawmakers...

...The kids know exactly what they're doing, and they don't care about the criticism.

"When these politicians kill our friends, why are we expected to play nice?" Hogg said. "Obviously it's due to their inaction; that's what we're aiming at."

Hogg prominence has led to a backlash of conspiracy theories accusing him of not being a student at the school. It also led him to question who, exactly, has been lowering the discourse.

"You know what's disrespectful?" Hogg said. "Calling out witnesses to a mass shooting and calling us actors. That's disrespectful. And even questioning whether we were even ... there.... We are teenagers ... we're not known for being mature, but come on."

..."I don't think we've ever seen an entire community, including the survivors, have a clear call to action," said Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action, a gun control group.

In past mass shootings, it has been common for family members of victims to become passionate, outspoken gun control advocates.

But in Parkland, "it's as if all of them agreed immediately that stronger gun laws would prevent anyone else from going through this tragedy again," Watts said. "These teens are realizing they don't have to live this way, they don't have to die this way."

The students' stridency, however disliked by their opponents, seems to have had an effect on Republican lawmakers...

WATCH: Kentucky lawmaker in the heart of Trump country sides with students — and gives up his A rating from the NRA

...Harris is already acting on his new convictions, co-sponsoring a bill that would end Kentucky’s bizarre practice of auctioning off murder weapons to the public. Thanks to that law, a gun that was used in a recent Kentucky school shooting in which two children were killed and 14 others wounded will be auctioned off.

“I’m tired of all the prayers without action,” Harris said. “We do nothing to try to minimize these ever-escalating mass shootings with their ever-escalating death tolls. We offer our prayers and we talk about our faith but we do not act. Without action, without good works, our faith and our prayers are dead.”

“A lot of people give things up for Lent. I’m giving up my NRA rating,” he said.

You can watch Harris’ stirring testimony below.
