The NRA is losing business ties faster than Donald Trump switches positions on the issues.

Courtesy of CNN:

Before last week, membership in the National Rifle Association meant gaining access to a broad range of discounts. From special rates on auto insurance policies to cheaper flights when you booked through its website, the NRA's discount program offered a lot of perks.

But in the wake of a massacre at a Florida high school on February 14, activists flooded social media with calls to end corporate partnerships with America's most powerful gun lobby.

Since Thursday, more than a dozen brands severed ties with the organization.

In a statement, the National Rifle Association called the decisions "a shameful display of political and civic cowardice."

"In time, these brands will be replaced by others who recognize that patriotism and determined commitment to Constitutional freedoms are characteristics of a marketplace they very much want to serve," the statement said.

Funny how cowardice is now defined as refusing to stand with an organization that helps to murder our children, rather than standing to defend them.

However their threats have not stopped business from fleeing like rats from a sinking ship.

Here is a list so far:
  • The First National
  • Bank of Omaha
  • Enterprise Rent-A-Car
  • Alamo Rent a Car
  • National Car Rental
  • Symantec
  • Hertz
  • MetLife
  • SimpliSafe
  • Avis
  • Budget Rent a Car
  • Allied
  • North American
  • TrueCar
  • Delta Air Lines
  • United Airlines
  • Paramount RX
  • Starkey
There actually may be more now.

Republican supporters of the NRA are not going down without a fight however.
Cagle is the current Georgia Lt. Governor, now running for the Governor's seat.

I wonder what his political chances would be if Delta suddenly decided to move their company headquarters to a more agreeable state?

Corporations are people too, Cagle, isn't that what Citizens United was all about? Plenty of major cities would more than welcome to be Delta's new headquarters. Threaten away, asswipe!

"On Saturday, Delta and United Airlines cut ties with the NRA, joining First National Bank of Omaha, Enterprise Holdings, security software company Symantec, home security company SimpliSafe, auto insurer MetLife, car rental firms Avis and Budget, moving companies Allied and North American Van lines, software company Wild Apricot, and car buying service TrueCar.

The NRA called the decisions to cut ties “a shameful display of political and civic cowardice” in a statement Saturday, and said that it would not scare any of the NRA’s more than five million members in “the greatest nation in the world.”"

  6. Some Georgia asshat Republican is threatening Delta that if they don't reinstate their NRA discounts they'll never get the fuel tax relief they want.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/republican-lawmaker-threatens-delta-airline-nixes-nra-discount/story?id=53382478

""I will kill any tax legislation that benefits @Delta unless the company changes its position and fully reinstates its relationship with @NRA,” Cagle wrote on Twitter. "Corporations cannot attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back.""

Virginia, New York and Washington State have all reached out to Delta and invited them to move their hub to their states.

Since Delta supports so many employees (31,500) I'd say that threatening to move their hub to should toast this asshole politician's rear end nicely.

    http://news.delta.com/deltas-economic-impact-metro-atlanta-georgia

As of Monday they voted down the fuel tax relief bill.

If Atlanta was serious about wooing Amazon to Atlanta, I don't think this sort of retaliation is going to sit very well.

I think Delta should take a serious look at Virginia, New York, Washington State and even South Carolina and other surrounding states.

Delta MADE the Atlantic hub and they can unmake it. They can take their employees and move to another state. Yeah, it might be expensive but if that state will guarantee them a $40 million a year tax relief for fuel, it might pay off in the long run. And they won't have to kiss the ring of the NRA and Republicans.

(Amazon should take Atlanta off it's list immediately. AND stop carrying the NRA channel.)

Amazon doesn’t need Atlanta, but Bezos is all about the buck.

      Delete
    3. What would Bezos think about them killing that bill in order to control Delta's policies? I'm thinking, not much. He won't want Amazon being dictated to by these assholes.

If Bezo is about the buck, he'll think twice before choosing Atlanta given what Cagle just did when Delta didn't jump to his tune.

    2. Delta has no obligation to Atlanta or Georgia. It's business. Cagles and their other representatives just shot themselves in the foot. If Delta leaves and takes 31,500 jobs with them, it's the Republicans that are to blame, not Delta.

If I had the money I'd invest in Delta. They are a strong buy. But since their dividends don't pay that much I'd wait for it to drop into at least the 40s before I bought a chunk.

  18. I’m sure there is a line of other state representatives at Delta HQ that will be THRILLED to have all of the revenue Delta generates in Georgia pouring into their states. it has happened before...American left NYC for Dallas. Casey Cagle might want to think about this a bit. Maybe get some advice from Georgia’s Dept. of Revenue. Just a thought.
