Someday I want to grow up to be as big of an asshole to women as you are sir. |
President Trump has stayed in touch with Rob Porter, the former White House staff secretary who stepped down after allegations that he had abused his two former wives came to light, according to three people familiar with the conversations, and has told some advisers he hopes Mr. Porter returns to work in the West Wing.
The president’s calls with Mr. Porter have increased in the last few weeks, as the number of people he is close to in the White House has dwindled because of the large number of staff departures, the people familiar with the calls said.
In Mr. Trump’s orbit, few people are ever permanently exiled. He often sees aides who are subject to public criticism as extensions of himself, coming under fire because critics want to attack him, and he has described the Porter situation in those terms to some people, those briefed on the discussions said.
The president has told the advisers he has talked with that he knows he probably cannot bring Mr. Porter back. But he has made clear that he misses the staff structure that Mr. Porter had helped build and implement, a White House official said, speaking on background because advisers were not authorized to discuss the matter publicly.
Yes, well it's relatively easy to keep people in check if they think you will backhand them the minute they step out of line.
His ex-wife certainly learned that the hard way.
Just the mere fact that Trump wants this asshole back in the White House essentially tells you all you need to know about his respect for women, his tolerance for abusive behaviors, and his growing desperation.
And another one bites the dust...
ReplyDeleteTrump ousts Shulkin as head of Veterans Affairs
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/380296-trump-ousts-shulkin-as-head-of-veterans-affairs
“The president told me he is perplexed by all of these reports that there is chaos at the White House or mass staff changes,” Chris Ruddy, the CEO of Newsmax, told ABC's "This Week."
“He told me that he thinks the White House is operating like a ‘smooth machine,’ his words.”
Ruddy, however, noted the president told him he will likely make some changes soon.
“He did say that he is expecting to make one or two major changes to his government very soon and that is going to be it,” Ruddy said.
Ruddy said White House sources told him that Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin is likely to depart Trump's Cabinet “very soon.”
Shulkin has been in hot water in recent weeks following reports that he misused taxpayer money to pay for flights for his wife.

Trump slow-walks effort to replace Hope Hicks
ReplyDeleteWith the communications director due to leave this week, Trump is poised to take greater control over White House messaging.
White House communications director Hope Hicks is leaving the West Wing this week, but there’s little urgency to fill the position and prospects have cooled for the rumored contenders.
That means President Donald Trump, who views himself as his own best strategist, is poised to at least temporarily fill the void left by one of his most trusted advisers.
“He’s his own comms director, so there’s not really a need,” said one former administration official.

DeleteTrump attack unleashes oppo against Mueller
ReplyDelete‘It looks like the beginnings of a campaign,’ said a source familiar with Trump’s legal strategy.
When President Donald Trump lashed out against Robert Mueller by name earlier this month, the president’s supporters sprang into action — treating the chief Russia investigator to political campaign-style opposition research.
Within hours, the Drudge Report featured a story blaming Mueller, the special counsel leading the Justice Department’s Russia probe, for the FBI’s clumsy investigation into the 2001 anthrax attacks when Mueller ran the bureau. The independent pro-Trump journalist Sara Carter posted a story charging that Mueller, as a federal prosecutor in Boston in the mid-1980s, had covered up the FBI’s dealings with the Mafia informant Whitey Bulger. Carter was soon discussing her findings in prime time with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
Meanwhile, Trump supporters on Twitter circulated video of testimony Mueller gave to Congress ahead of the 2003 Iraq War in which he endorsed the view, later proved false, that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction.
To some, the barrage looked coordinated among pro-Trump allies and media outlets, a concerted effort to tarnish Mueller’s reputation as part of a political strategy to undermine, or even eventually fire, the Russia investigator.

Here’s the Senate staffer behind the GOP’s attack on Mueller’s Trump-Russia investigation
ReplyDelete...For Foster’s critics, and they include Republicans as well as Democrats, his provocative work on the Trump-Russia investigation is just the latest chapter in the career of a partisan combatant willing to discard norms and indulge in conspiratorial thinking as he pursues investigations favorable to Republicans.
Foster — who cut his teeth on Capitol Hill working on the staff of former Rep. Dan Burton, R-Ind., who fueled the theory of foul play in a Clinton aide’s suicide and called for required AIDS testing for all Americans — drew the ire of many for his role in various Judiciary Committee investigations of the Obama administration.
“That’s the way it seemed to go every time with Jason, conspiracy to the point it was ridiculous,” said one Democratic aide who had dealt with Foster. The aide was one of several interviewed by ProPublica, Democrat and Republican, who would not be identified because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the inner workings of Congress.
Foster’s career, including his work on the committee’s Russia investigation, has caught the attention of the Trump

DeleteTrump’s FBI Attacks Are Helping Accused Terrorists Defend Themselves In Court
ReplyDeleteJurors in the Kansas militia trial have been primed to believe the FBI is biased against conservatives.
Three anti-Muslim militia members, on trial for plotting to slaughter Somali refugees in southwest Kansas, have adopted a defense strategy that could’ve been culled directly from President Donald Trump’s Twitter feed: suggesting that a biased FBI conspired against them in the lead-up to the 2016 election due to their political beliefs.
Curtis Allen, Patrick Stein and Gavin Wright are on trial in connection with their arrest in a FBI domestic terrorism sting just weeks before the 2016 election. Their defense attorneys, in turn, are putting the FBI on trial ― accusing the nation’s premier law enforcement agency of improperly targeting the three men due to their conservative ideology.
It’s common for defense attorneys to suggest their clients were wrongfully singled out by biased law enforcement officials. And to be sure, there’s nothing wrong with healthy skepticism about law enforcement and the FBI.
But the situation here is striking: A U.S. president has taken pains to undermine the FBI (declaring that the bureau’s reputation is “in Tatters—worst in History!”), and defense attorneys for accused terrorists are seeking to capitalize on that reality.

Scott Walker Crushed In Court As Wisconsin Special Elections To Be Held
ReplyDeleteGov. Scott Walker has refused to hold special elections for one open seat in the state house and the state senate. Today, an appeals court ruled that Walker must hold the elections, and Walker announced that he would not be appealing to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
Out of fear that Democrats will win, Walker had refused to hold special elections for the seats that were vacated when Republicans took positions in his administration. Walker was sued, and he lost.
Walker appealed, and he lost the appeal:

ReplyDeleteMichael Steele said that President Donald Trump’s firing of Veterans Administration Secretary David Shulkin was designed to distract from whether the commander in chief will pardon Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn.
ReplyDelete...“And it is interesting timing, because everybody has been talking about that New York Times report that said that John Dowd, the president’s former lawyer in the Mueller investigation, was asking Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn’s lawyers about whether they were interested in a presidential pardon,” Tur noted. “Good idea to announce this to change the subject.”
“It does feel like a distraction tactic to me,” Tur noted.
“Totally,” former RNC Chair Michael Steele said.
“Am I crazy,” Tur asked.
“It is totally that,” Steele confirmed. “And folks were waking up this morning having a news that was breaking and now we’re talking about Shulkin.”
“How many more people can he fire in order to distract us from the Mueller investigation?” Tur asked.
Steele replied Trump has “a good seven or eight more weeks of firing he can do here.”
