(1/4)Yesterday, the members of @AMarch4OurLives got to meet up with some of the most wonderful and most strong spoken students of Chicago. This is in an extraordinary move on the part of these young people.(4/4) violence the way they did here. They are not selfishly hogging the attention for themselves, but rather using the attention directed at them to shine a light on those communities that also suffer from gun violence but have been neglected by the media.
They are demonstrating not only incredible compassion but advertising their unwavering commitment to see this movement through until it achieves the change that they are demanding.
If I worked for the NRA this is around the time that I would start breathing into a paper bag to keep from hyperventilating.
By the way if you want to know why Chicago really has the problems with guns that it has, there is a great NPR article from 2017 that will do much to explain that to you.
Emma Gonzalez for Time's Person of the Year!
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you that from what I have seen she probably would not accept it, unless it included her peers as well.
DeleteThis year is still young and there will be many more mass shootings, you can bank on it. Perhaps as 2018 draws to a close, there will be many more people besides Ms Gonzalez and her classmates demanding Congress do something about this gun culture and epidemic. It is horrible and has to stop but I fear that dozens or hundreds more people will tragically lose their lives before anything meaningful is done. Honestly, I think it will take the deaths of more Republican gun nuts at the hands of an assault rifle before Congress will consider it. I just hope going forward that far more children of gun humping Republicans are killed than Democrats. If it has to happen, and it will with all the NRA love, better that Republicans are killed than Democrats.
DeleteIt is more likely they will give it to the Parkland students as a group.

ReplyDelete"The Islamic State (IS) group has published a video purporting to show an ambush in Niger in which four US soldiers were killed last October.
It is not clear why the release of the video - on an IS outlet on messaging app Telegram - was delayed until now.
The video consists mainly of raw footage, including images apparently filmed using a helmet camera belonging to one of the soldiers.
The video seems to suggest that the attack was carried out by IS militants.
It begins with still images showing an alleged pledge of allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi by members of the al-Qaeda-linked, Sahel-based group Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM).
The alleged pledge was reported last month by a number of analysts but it had not been promoted by IS outlets on Telegram.
The deaths later caused controversy when the widow of one of the soldiers said President Donald Trump had made her cry during a condolence phone call by suggesting her husband "knew what he signed up for".
How did US soldiers come under attack in Niger?
More remains of US soldier found in Niger
Niger country profile
The video shows several armed militants walking and running in a desert area apparently heading for the ambush, reports BBC Monitoring.
It then shows footage that appears to have been filmed by one of the US soldiers. At one point the footage shows US soldiers seemingly exchanging fire with their assailants.
One soldier is then shown apparently dead.
Fighting continues until the other soldiers are killed, including apparently the one who was filming."
https://sofrep.com/100433/breaking-footage-of-isis-ambushing-u-s-special-forces-in-niger/
"The following footage is from the helmet camera of a Special Forces soldier caught in the infamous ambush in Niger that occurred on October 4th of last year. The footage illustrates some hard facts and dispels many myths about the ambush that had not previously been brought to light. The attack happened extremely fast, as most ambushes do, and created a chaotic scenario for the men caught in it.
DeleteThe video is very hard to watch but serves to educate anyone who does not fully grasp the reality of war, violence and combat. The men were outnumbered and once fire superiority was lost due to the nature and execution of the ambush, the situation quickly began to deteriorate. The team was caught out in the open with only their (unarmored) vehicles and what looks to be a B6 Land Cruiser (armored) to use as cover and the militants were dispersed throughout a tree line in greater numbers. With no way to regain the initiative, the men attempted to egress and were eventually killed. They killed 21 enemy militants before it was all over.
Draw your own conclusions about the situation but hold reverence for the fallen in your soul and hatred for the enemy in your heart. The original audio was removed because it features a typical Islamic State extremist propaganda soundtrack paired with added false screams. SOFREP doesn’t support that shit, obviously. We honor these men by watching their last stand, not by turning away; they were true warriors to the end."

"If I worked for the NRA this is around the time that I would start breathing into a paper bag to keep from hyperventilating."
ReplyDeleteLol. The NRA is just fine, and every time the libs that don't know anything about firearms start talking gun control, gun sales go up along with NRA membership.
BTW, being from Chicago, the problem isn't guns, it is a cultural and generational problem within a segment of society. There are millions of people that own guns all around Chicago and the suburbs that manage to get by day by day, year after year, without any problems or shootings.
The majority of gun murders happens in some very select neighborhoods. You can put the pieces together genius.
Only cowards use all those dog whistles that you did, 7:04pm. Why don't you just say "Nigger, nigger, nigger"?! It's obvious that's what you were insinuating, you racist jerk.
DeleteThat is an awful word 9:36. I'd never use it. Libs love to use it though, and then try to paste in onto others. But you use that awful slur 9:36, that is on you, racist.

"Part of the explanation for the varying public health costs related to gun violence is that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—the very government entity charged with studying and tracking what ails Americans—has been effectively blocked from funding research on the topic since 1996, when the GOP-led CONgress threatened to strip CDC funding over the i$$ue. In the wake of the Parkland shooting, calls to reverse that have intensified recently."
4:22 NUMBERS!
Delete"Predictions underlie nearly every aspect of our lives, from sports, politics, and medical decisions to the morning commute. With the explosion of digital technology, the internet, and “big data,” the science of forecasting is flourishing. But why do some predictions succeed spectacularly while others fail abysmally? And how can we find meaningful patterns amidst chaos and uncertainty? From the glitz of casinos and TV game shows to the life-and-death stakes of storm forecasts and the flaws of opinion polls that can swing an election, “Prediction by the Numbers” explores stories of statistics in action. Yet advances in machine learning and big data models that increasingly rule our lives are also posing big, disturbing questions. How much should we trust predictions made by algorithms when we don’t understand how they arrive at them? And how far ahead can we really forecast?

Today is a tough day for NRA spokesperson Dana Loesch.
ReplyDeleteNot only is the unsuccessful actress-turned-NRA-flamethrower home watching the Oscars with the rest of us, she can already feel herself ready to rage at the TV as actors talk about the nation’s avoidable epidemic of gun violence.
Loesch decided to just get out ahead of it, releasing an unhinged screed about “Hollywood phonies” who care about children being killed.
...The internet responded with mockery and derision—and with no shortage of references to Loesch’s failed bid to join the “phonies” in Hollywood.

BREAKING NEWS:
ReplyDeleteSpecial counsel wants documents from Trump, numerous campaign associates
The grand jury investigating alleged collusion between Russia and Donald Trump's presidential campaign has issued a subpoena seeking all documents involving the president and a host of his closest advisers, according to a copy of the subpoena reviewed by NBC News.
According to the subpoena, which was sent to a witness by special counsel Robert Mueller, investigators want emails, text messages, work papers, telephone logs and other documents going back to Nov. 1, 2015, 4½ months after Trump launched his campaign.
The witness shared details of the subpoena on condition of anonymity. The news site Axios reported Sunday that a subpoena was sent to a witness last month.
NBC News reported last week that Mueller's team is asking pointed questions about whether Trump knew about hacked emails from Hillary Clinton's campaign before the public found out. The subpoena indicates that Mueller may be focused not just on what Trump campaign aides knew and when they knew it, but also on what Trump himself knew.
In addition to the president, the subpoena seeks documents that have anything to do with these current and former Trump associates:

DeleteLot's of folks are doing OT here so thought I'd chime in and say how proud I am of the PETA folks and lots of us activists that protested the heinous event called the iditarod and all of the harm and cruelty that surrounds both the race and the actual keeping and chaining of the dogs, not to mention the harm and death that can result from the race itself.
ReplyDeleteLet's keep it up folks and finish this thing for good, just like the fucking Fur Rendezvous in Anchorage it's an anachronistic activity that needs to be squelched as we move into a modern world that doesn't include cruelty to animals.
Most dogs are happier having a purpose than just lying around getting fat. PETA does some good but many times they have no clue.
Delete"The report faulted the Army for ignoring multiple Pentagon rules concerning the handling of dogs serving in the military.
Delete“The Army did not use the DOD Working Dog Management system, as required by the Joint Military Working Dog Instruction and Army Regulation 190-12,” the Inspector General said in the report.
The report also said that the Army improperly hired a private contractor to provide the dogs, breaking a rule that requires obtaining military dogs from the Air Force’s 341st Training Squadron, responsible for teaching and distributing new active-duty dogs to all of the military services.
The U.S. Army currently has 1,600 Military War Dogs (MWD’s), which are used in the field or for helping recuperating veterans, Bloomberg reported in August. There is one war dog for every three U.S. soldiers currently serving in Afghanistan."
