A former GOP donor is using his tax cut money to fund Democrats.

Seth Klarman
Courtesy of HuffPo:

A major GOP donor is jumping ship and now he’s contributing to Democratic candidates in hopes of flipping the House of Representatives and/or the Senate in this year’s midterm elections.

Seth Klarman, the billionaire CEO of the Baupost Group who the Economist once dubbed “The Oracle of Boston,” called out Republicans for failing to keep President Donald Trump in check.

“The Republicans in Congress have failed to hold the president accountable and have abandoned their historic beliefs and values,” Klarman told the Boston Globe. “For the good of the country, the Democrats must take back one or both houses of Congress.”

Klarman, an independent who donated more than $7 million to GOP candidates during the presidency of Barack Obama, has now cut checks to Democrats in 56 House races and 22 Senate elections, the newspaper reported.

“I received a tax cut I neither need nor want. I’m choosing to invest it to fight the administration’s flawed policies and to elect Democrats to the Senate and House of Representatives,” Klarman said.

Klarman also donated $2 million to nonprofits backing core Democratic issues, including gun control and the environment, the Globe reported.

Boy Donald Trump really IS good at fundraising.

Just look how much he is raising for the Democrats.

When people talk about Donald Trump's legacy, I am hoping that his number one achievement will be the total destruction of the Republican party as we know it today.

    OT:

    Raw Story article title:

"White evangelical support for Trump grows"

'A new poll suggests that President Donald Trump’s base of white evangelical support was not hurt at all by his lawyer’s hush money to Stormy Daniels, nor by revelations that the married President had a year-long affair with an adult film actress after First Lady Melania gave birth to their son Barron. On the contrary, as reports of Trump’s infidelities and shady business deals have piled up, white evangelical Protestants — among the nation’s most socially conservative, law-and-order voters — have only come to hold more favorable attitudes about Trump.'

-I can personally vouch for that. Two examples. My born again Republican brother who I just visited ( I love him dearly, but he's hopelessly brainwashed), and a good friend who is trying to help me through a very difficult time in my life by taking me to her Christian support group. I went to the second meeting a few days ago, and decided it's to be my last. It was a women's only group held at a very nice lady's house, and the topic before the meeting began turned to politics...they raved on Trump ("...He's such a great businessman!"... "He's bringing back jobs!" "...Well, how can he help himself? He's just a man...my husband had affairs *too*, and *I* stayed with *him*...")No mention of Russia, mob ties, bankruptcies, money laundering...all that is like they had never heard of it. I stayed silent. No use engaging with them; it would only further enforce their beliefs.

'Evangelicals’ fervent support of Trump is not universally shared by a crucial, and rapidly evaporating subset of the white Evangelicals — their children — who are leaving the faith in droves over its anti-LGBT and anti-science positions.

Only 35 percent of white evangelicals are under the age of 50, compared to 54 percent of the population, according to the PRRI. And they are bleeding youth: Only 8 percent of white evangelicals are under the age of 30, compared to 21 percent of the American population.'

-That, also, was borne out during the meeting itself. The leader asked the women about their "journeys with Christ" and the lady that brought me said that her two children, due to what her family was going through ( I won't divulge it here) had lost their faith and become atheists... she was constantly trying to 'argue them back into loving Jesus again' - I thought, "Good luck with *that*, sister. You're just driving them further away."

" the unbridled success of the online program couldn’t help putting him in mind of the profit-seeking tradition within American Christianity, which is closely aligned with evangelical Christianity’s prosperity gospel — the notion that financial success, far from distracting us from the higher values, is an affirmation of godliness." A lot of people just talk about it generally, how God has blessed U$a,”"

Each and all persons that enabled this mob takeover of this country will pay a huge price one way or another.

    1. If you think the mob is anything other than the total of our system, you are sadly mistaken. Each party is a mob and they fight each other for the right to fleece us.

  7. My cynical side tells me Klarman is being practical and not ethical. My guess is, he can see like everyone else that the Republican party is going down in the midterms and he wants to ride the Democrat horse. In other words, he's spending his money where it will get him the most influence. This isn't a change of heart. It's a change in the realization of who can get things done for him.

What really needs to happen is to take money and paybacks out of the equation or nothing has really changed in the swamp.

Wis*CON*$IN>"Kaul's lawsuit challenged a broad swath of voting rules. In July 2016, a federal judge kept in place the requirement to show ID at the polls, but struck down a number of other laws, including restrictions on when and where early voting could occur. Judge James Peterson found Wisconsin's voting laws discriminated against minorities and labeled the voter ID law "a cure worse than the disease" that tried to address "mostly phantom voter fraud." His ruling forced the state to make changes to the system it uses to issue IDs to those who have the most difficulty obtaining them, such as people who don't have birth certificates or Social Security numbers."

  10. Good on him.

Although with those values, I question whether he isn't really a fiscally conservative Democrat. He doesn't seem to share that many values with the GOP.
