Does Donald Trump deserve credit for peace between North and South Korea? Not so much.

After this admittedly historic meeting, Donald Trump was quick to jump in and snatch the credit.

But is it credit that he deserves?

What do you think?

In a historic and opulent ceremony, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in met in the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) to sign the Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula during the Inter-Korean Summit and officially ended the war that began when the north and south split in a battle over communism and democracy that began on 25 June 1950.

Dr TJ Pempel, a professor at the University of California-Berkeley told The Independent while Mr Trump “deserves some credit but not as much as he’s taking”. While the United Nations sanctions on Pyongyang involved the US push from Ambassador Nikki Haley, that is “hardly the whole story”, Mr Pempel said. “China’s agreement to the sanctions was far more important,” he noted.

The important point to note, he said, was that North Korea developed its nuclear programme considerably after Mr Trump took office. “The North is convinced that it has the upper hand in negotiations because of its nuclear and missile testing successes; the US thinks it has the upper hand because it believes Kim is negotiating because of the sanctions. It’s the combination that has triggered the North’s willingness to sit down”.

That is likely part of the explanation for Kim Jong-un's sudden cooperativeness, but this next story is likely an even bigger factor.

Courtesy of Forbes:

North Korean president Kim Jong-un recently announced his country has halted its nuclear testing program. While it is unclear whether this is a political move in preparation for meeting with the United States president Donald Trump, recent evidence suggests the country may have been forced to halt testing.

A recent study by a group of geologists discovered that the mountain used by North Korea for its nuclear bomb testing has collapsed as a result of the explosions. The collapsed mountain is raising concerns about radioactive fallout, which could make its way into China.

Scientists from the University of Science and Technology of China believe this could be the true reason North Korean President Kim Jong-un announced the halt of their nuclear testing program.

So Kim Jong-un is not negotiating because he is suddenly all reasonable and shit, it's because he realizes that he needs to change tactics before his bluff is called and his enemies recognize that he is not the nuclear threat that he has made himself out to be.

He's like a thief who attempts to rob a liquor store, realizes that he forgot to load his gun, and then suddenly says "Look, Just give me a bottle of vodka and I will leave without taking your money. Deal?"

Donald Trump has a history of taking credit for other people's work, and this looks like one more example.

Yeah, I got that. He was standing in front of the press sounding like a martyr asking why has it come to me to make peace and the other presidents didn't?
He sure knows how to elevate himself onto a status none of his making deosn't he. It's an amazing trick he does.
    DOnald Trump is a magician.
I am glad the other countries suddenly see how they must go on their own and because our egocentric president and nation is going through its' teenage hood.
Look world, we are in our teenhood, just give us years more, and we will mature back into sanity.
We just turned thirteen when Donald got elected and we should be eighteen soon enough if we don't let that orange shithead implode us with his narcissism.

Impeachment is the only answer. Everyone is complaining about Trump and no one is doing a damn thing to get rid of him! He's harming our country and the American people. Plus, he is detested around the world!

fat donald deserves fuck-all!!! He is nothing but a fast-talking grifter who rides the coat-tails of those who do the actual work! He is too fuckin' stupid to see that he was out-foxed by the South Korean and Chinese diplomats, who did all of the behind-the scenes negotiations!! The real reason this meeting took place is that North Korea is running out of money; they have no market for their goods, due to international sanctions! They paid fat donald cheap lip-service, so he can puff his chest out tonight in MI, at his nationalist rally, and bellow to his flunky brown-shirts,"lookie what I did"!! The dotard idiot is too fuckin' dumb to see that they played him like a cheap fiddle!!

"South Koreans were also fascinated by Kim’s wife Ri Sol Ju and his powerful sister Kim Yo Jong, who spent much of the day at her brother’s side.

Kim’s sister – who acted as his envoy to the South’s
    Winter Olympics in February – broke into a broad grin while greeting Moon, with officials later revealing she had blushed when the president said she had become a celebrity." {Sister}

Who cares what the fat fuck says? Of course he’s lying and taking credit. But if North Korea stands down while he’s in the WH, he can have the credit. I’m not so sure that’s going to happen, but if it does, that’s good for our country. I could put country above partisanship for that.

OT? "In a speech Friday in which he recounted a conversation with David Friedman,
Washington’s ambassador to Israel, Trump determined that the embassy — which he unilaterally, and to great international criticism chose to relocated to Jerusalem, disputed territory for Palestinians and Israelis — would cost only $150,000:

I said, “What’s this one billion?” He said, “I can build it for $150,000.” I said, “What?” He said, “I can build it for $150,000, the embassy. We have a building, we have the site, we already own the site, we own the building. I can take a corner of the building, and for $150,000 we can fix it up, make it beautiful, open our embassy — instead of in 10 years from now, we can open it up in three months.”
    And that’s what we did."

    Well, not really.

The Washington Post notes that he’s made this promise before, in March. Only then he said that a temporary space for the embassy would cost around $250,000 rather than
$1 billion." “Now, it’s temporary, but it’ll be very nice.
Two hundred and fifty thousand dollars versus a
billion dollars. Is that good?”<dotard drivel

THIS>" in 1973 Le Duc Tho became the first and only person ever to voluntarily refuse a Nobel Peace Prize. The prize had been awarded jointly to Tho, a North Vietnamese politician and diplomat, and U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger for their work negotiating a ceasefire in the Vietnam War."
Oct 9, 2015"'Henry Kissinger By Jak Phillips
    Friday, Oct. 07, 2011'
"Once called "the most controversial to date," the decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Henry Kissinger in 1973 was fraught with debate. Critics said Kissinger's alleged involvement as Secretary of State in Operation Condor and the U.S. bombing campaigns in Cambodia made a mockery of the prize and led Tom Lehrer to quip that the award "made political satire obsolete." Further incensing the situation, North Vietnam's Le Duc Tho, who was jointly awarded the prize, declined his half of the spoils on the grounds that he didn't want to share the award with the realpolitik ringmaster. To date, his detractors continue to dispute the accolade, arguing that the prize was for efforts to conclude the Vietnam War — something that didn't actually happen until 1975."

"Only at the White House was the announcement greeted with unguarded praise. Kissinger was unabashedly delighted; President Nixon, who might have hoped to win it himself, said that the award gave “deserved recognition to the art of negotiation itself in the process of ending a war and laying the groundwork for peace.” Hanoi, however, was resoundingly silent, lending substance to rumors that
Tho would not accept the prize."<THAT

  13. So China tells Un he better stop testing or they're going to stop it for him. Then suggest he better bury the hatchet with South Korea before that fat dotard sticks his orange nose in their business.

The Koreas now have a united front, with China behind them, to tell Mike Pompeo where to stick his big stick.

Trump has nothing to do with this other than being a YUUUGE embarrassment and fuck up. The leaders of the world know it. The world knows it. The only ones that don't know it are the Deplorable that live in Trumpland.

  14. I think Kim is just leading trump on, and will eventually end it when he can most embarrass trump. I heard trump say he (trump) was a better president than any of those before him based on this Korean business, and he wasn't talking about just democrats. What an ego, especially before the deed is done.

"“There is no reason to think Kim is another Gorbachev — a genuine liberal reformer who just happened to rise to the top of a totalitarian system. Human rights violations in North Korea are as awful as ever — a fact highlighted by the death of the American student Otto Warmbier shortly after being released from North Korean custody. The North Korean nuclear and missile programs are more advanced than ever. Kim is not suddenly being reborn as a liberal peacenik; he is pursuing his family’s old policy of mixing provocations such as missile tests with peace offensives designed to convince the West to relax sanctions and extend his odious regime a life line. We would be well advised not to fall for this gambit — again.”

We have reported before that our conman president is in fact being conned himself."
