| Wait, who pardoned me? |
President Donald Trump is poised to pardon Scooter J. Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, according to sources familiar with the president’s thinking.
The president has already signed off on the pardon, which is something he has been considering for several months, sources told ABC News.
The move would mark another controversial pardon for Trump and could raise questions as an increasing number of the president’s political allies have landed themselves in legal jeopardy. The White House has repeatedly said that no pardons are currently on the table for people caught up in the Russia investigation.
You may remember that Trump already pardoned Joe Arpaio, which at least made a little more sense than this.
So why would Trump pardon a dude that was convicted of lying to the FBI and obstructing justice during the Bush Administration?

not surprised at all - this is about revenge and ratings - the list of pardons will be short but significant - don jr, kushner, cohen, ivanka, and trump himself (I doubt there is any one else he cares enough about to waste the 10 seconds it would take to sign the papers) - he will play it out for awhile - libby's pardon is to distract and divert and grab the headlines - he is playing with all of us and mostly the press and getting vengeance on the justice dept - there may be a few more pardons if he thinks it will anger and gets even with a few other folks he wants to extract vengeance on - and the firings will come soon too - sessions, rosenstein ...followed by however many more it takes till someone fires Mueller. - and the NY state judges will be cleared out again too (to avoid state charges)

Rumor has it John Bolton had pardoning Libby at the top of his to do list.
With the Mueller investigation heating up, the raid on Cohen and Comey's book coming out, this is probably more about sending a message. That lying to the FBI and obstruction are fine and if you protect Trump he will protect you.

DeleteComey does not elaborate on what the information is. But he adds: “Had it become public, the unverified material would undoubtedly have been used by political opponents to cast serious doubt on the attorney general’s independence in connection with the Clinton investigation.”

ReplyDeleteIn itself it means nothing. I suspect they were on Trump's case about it from the beginning, and that he has been saving it up for a time such as this when he's in so much shit that very little short of a declaration of war will take it off the front page for a day.
