The Trump administration will shift federal funding aimed at reducing teen pregnancy rates to programs that teach abstinence.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced Friday the availability of grants through the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program, (TPPP) a grant program created under former President Obama that funds organizations and programs working to reduce teen pregnancy rates.
Trump's HHS announced, however, that unlike under the Obama administration, grants will be geared toward organizations that teach abstinence education to teens instead of the comprehensive sex ed approach the previous administration supported. In a funding announcement released Friday, the administration announced two tiers of funds for the TPP program.
"Projects will clearly communicate that teen sex is a risk behavior for both the physical consequences of pregnancy and sexual transmitted infections; as well as sociological, economic and other related risks," the funding announcement reads. "Both risk avoidance and risk reduction approaches can and should include skills associated with helping youth delay sex as well as skills to help those youth already engaged in sexual risk to return toward risk-free choices in the future."
Well I think we can all look forward to a dramatic spike in teen pregnancy.
As the product of a teen pregnancy, I can attest to the fact that the "just say no" approach is deeply flawed.
Maybe Bristol can get another high paying gig promoting this hogwash.

My wife and I would have no more of the cultural Marxist indoctrination masquerading as education of a school system that erased the name of God from every aspect of its curricula in polluting the minds of the innocent to the extreme of wanting company in hell by de facto telling parents that they had no right to say that the school couldn't trash the "laws of nature and of nature's God" at its whim - our Constitutional Freedom of Religion rights be damned! I let our school district know, in no uncertain terms, that they had NO RIGHT to do this, i.e., you don't check your faith at the door upon entering public life, in speaking out, along with other fed up parents, at many school board meetings, public issues forums, and in the print and electronic media that there were people locally who weren't about to put up with the moral rot emanating from our schools, colleges, and universities for the sake of their children, PERIOD!

My parents were overjoyed they could turn over their responsibilities to the schools, thus avoiding having to have "the talk." My parents avoided talking about sex, period. Even after we were adults.
DeleteThe closest I ever came was when my Dad had to go back east to a funeral and my Mother, out of the blue, said we're going to the movies. It was "The Graduate." Apparently she wanted to see it and he didn't so I was there to keep her company. I could feel her go silent and stiffen up at a few scenes. She really had no clue what the movie was about. We never talked about it afterwards either.
These religious puritans may think they have a lot of parents on their side but they really don't. Parents don't want to talk about sex with their children and are perfectly happy to have the school do it, whatever the curriculum is.
If I was on the school board, I'd invite them to home school. Fundies have no right to dictate to everyone else what and how anything is taught based on their own personal beliefs. If they don't like it, there's the door, go to private school or home school.
I was in sixth grade (1969) when sex ed was introduced into the curriculum, and thank goodness that it was. My uber-conservative parents wouldn't talk about it, in fact the "birds and bees" lecture from my mom was downright hysterical!

ReplyDelete"WICKLIFFE, Ohio -- A 2-year-old girl was accidentally shot and killed by her mother at a hotel Friday night, police say.
The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. at a hotel on Euclid Avenue, according to a post on the Wickliffe Police Department's Facebook page.
Police received a call about a child that suffered a gunshot wound. The first officer who made it to the scene performed CPR on the child and paramedics took over once they arrived.
The girl was pronounced dead at Lake Health West Medical Center, police said.
A preliminary investigation indicated the mother was handling the gun when it went off and a bullet struck the girl in the chest.
The mother was in legal possession of the gun and has a concealed carry permit, police said.
The incident is being reviewed to determine if the mother will face criminal charges, police said.
Police have not released the girl's name."

Truthful education and facts about becoming an adult would help. Explaining the huge change in life when you have children of your own and preparing for it. The change in your body, The financial responsibility, the legalities, the things in life you will miss out on if young. The loss of freedom. The loss of youth. So Saving yourself for the right person, right time and respect for yourself is important. Having goals, direction and dreams in life help. Parental influence is important and those around you are important and it can help sway you. Many years ago girls were programed to marry young and have no goals or interest but having kids.
