Let me see if I can sum up what George Bush said in just a paragraph.
"I was wrong about WMD's, I made many costly mistakes after we invaded Iraq, I know many informed people did not agree with my decisions, now I want you to trust that I will do the right thing from this day forward."
How is that?
Bush did say something that I find myself agreeing with. He said that when we leave Iraq we will embolden our enemies. He is right. No matter when we leave that country, the terrorists will take credit for driving us out and that will certainly embolden them. But that will happen no matter how long we stay there. Once we drove into Baghdad, the die was cast. There is nothing militarily that we can do about that right now. But staying in Iraq only gives the terrorists a handy recruitment tool and helps to increase their numbers.
Bush also attacked the fortitude of the people who are suggesting that we withdraw now and that is flat out bullshit! We are not weak, we are informed! That "cut and run" bullshit is a republican talking point that has unfortunately taken hold. I don't advocate slipping away under the cover of darkness. I suggest that we inform the Iraqis that they have 6 months to get their shit together and then we are out of there. I suggest we apologize for causing so much pain to their people and then offer to help with resources and building materials, but not manpower or military might. It is not cowardly to admit that we were wrong and then try to make restitution.
Bush said nothing about when we could expect to start bringing home troops. He justed trotted out the same old garabage about bringing our people home when the Iraqi's can take care of themselves. That is not good enough for me. I want to know how many more months, or years, or decades we can expect to send troops and truckloads of money to a region where 97% of the people want us out. Tell me that Mr. President!
sadly, everything you just said is true... too bad George can't read....
