Newsweeks Howard Fineman calls Bob Woodward the Bush administrations "court stenographer". Ow that has to hurt!

Howard Fineman, Newsweek's chief political correspondent, said Monday night in the first program of a Drew University lecture series, that Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward had become a "court stenographer" for the Bush administration.

Standing before a crowd of nearly 300, Fineman, said Woodward went from being an outsider "burning the beltway"with his investigative work in the 1970s Watergate scandal under President Nixon to being, " an official court stenographer of the Bush administration."

"He's a great reporter,"Fineman said of Woodward, "but he's become a great reporter of official history."

How does this happen? How does one go from being a giant killer to the dark lord's sycophant? Is it the promise of access? Is it the lure of publishing bestsellers? I personally will never buy one of his books again! (That would be such a better threat if I had ever bought one of his books in the past.)

Bob Woodward, once journalistic giant and now simply another soulless imp in the demonic domain of Darth Bush.

  1. yup- another stenographer....just what we need. Fineman slammed him- good. You blog looks great. I am in the middle of moving- but when I am done- the first thing I am going to do is clean up my blog. Now about Woody's books- I confess- I gave the whole pile to my dog as chew toys...I can't believe that I spent all that money- what a waste....If I still had a rabbit- which we did until this august- it would make great pan liners....every last page.
