Schumer, D-N.Y., urged Bush to share the identity of Novak's sources if the president knows.
"You are in a position to clear this matter up quickly," Schumer said in a letter to the president on Wednesday.
"Unlike Mr. Novak, who can claim an interest in maintaining the confidentiality of his sources, there is no similar privilege arguably preventing you from sharing this information," Schumer wrote.
"You have repeatedly suggested that you would like to get to the bottom of this affair," Schumer reminded Bush. "At one point, in 2004, you suggested that anyone who was involved in leaking the name of the covert CIA operative would be fired."
Let us not pussyfoot around here. If the President knows who the source is then he is lying to the American people by omission. We deserve to know who in the White House is a traitor and the President has kept that information from us.
Now if he really does not know who in his administration did the deed then he has completely lost control of his staff and either he never asked them, or one of them bold faced lied to him. Now if he was lied to and he did not immediately fire that person, then he is a bigger wimp then his father and all of his bluster just looks like play acting. No matter how you look at this thing George does not fit the powerful commander in chief image that he has so carefully crafted for himself.
If George Bush dodges, or refuses to answer, Senator Schumers letter then he opens himself up to more aggressive questioning by the media and the american people. It looks like Bushes bubble is going to constrict around him until it crushes the life right out of him.
